Daos
I wonder why Kai retains well some weeks, then has some weeks where it's down near 80. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. BC is pretty much what you expect when you're running an anime ranked 5311 on MAL. If they get a new show there's no chance it keeps the 3rd spot but it won't be cancelled. But on a positive note, BC tanking the ratings makes Jojo and Gundam get decent retention. Who'd have thought those shows would retain better than Kai? OwlChemist81
Gee, I wonder why THIS happened?? I betcha this had little to do with Toonami's dub premiere and everything to do with the new subtitled episode. 122K Facebook interactions and 65K Twitter interactions is pretty formidable, but even so, couldn't hold a candle to Nick's Kid's Choice awards, even not counting Instagram interactions! DBS didn't even get 1000 of those, but over 90% of Kid's Choice was thanks to Instagram! Toonami really should do some kind of promotion with Instagram if they even care about this... Blatch
I'm talking more about the grand scheme of things. Toonami's future has already been secured despite seemingly poor ratings. I was hoping the scandal last year involving AoT S2's run allegedly being cut short as well as the "emergency replacement show" would cause us to ween off of the complaining, but I guess not. That turned out to be nothing, so even if the ratings are lower than that right now, it's not worthy of our focus. And like what's been said before, Jason probably would warn us if things got especially dire. Basically, your mindless fanboying of how Netflix is the best doesn't amount for much other than yelling into the void. I mean, I guess you could do it here, but that ignores what other people want to talk about, which is equally pointless.

OwlChemist81
I'm blaming the NCAA tourney, despite the fact that last year's Samurai Jack Season 5 had the same difficulty and managed to do better. Sure, most of it was over by the time Toonami started, but not ALL. Also, the Kids Choice awards probably didn't help. We don't see NAN beyond the post-show, but I'm pretty sure it trashed Toonami. Daos
Shippuden as first show? Not gonna happen =P I could see it as... 3rd or 4th after Kai and Super end. Blatch
The extra episode of Cowboy Bebop beat Gundam in the key demo. I bet Jman is disappointed. I agree that Shippuden should be airing at least a little higher, but outright swapping it with Black Clover is an overestimation of its popularity. We don't know if the only reason it's going up is due to how low it is. Maybe it's like InuYasha, where the show is more popular when it airs later on?

As long as it's their most recent show, they air it after Kai!
Daos
Well I understand doing it for a while to try and hype your new show..... but It's been over 3 months and it's getting crushed. Also the retention after Gundam was hilariously high as predicted =P Hxh 103 Naruto 105 Dandy 87 Bebop 96 Bebop 94 GITS 92

OwlChemist81
To be fair, at the time it was only pushed ahead of other dub premieres, Dragon Ball Super, and Tokyo Ghoul.

OwlChemist81
Heads up: the Ratings Report tomorrow is gonna be a hot mess! But since Toonami was a hot mess last week, you'd already expected that, right?? Here's my prediction for what we'll see from whom... OwlChemist81
Well damn, looks like I was right!! http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-3-31-2018.html 51 FOX & FRIENDS SATURDAY FOX NEWS CHANNEL 9:00 AM 60 0.16 1,804 52 JOJOS ADV STARDUST CRU ADULT SWIM 2:45 AM 30 0.15 324 Hey, Mind Game made the Top 50 (and even the Top 40); that's pretty good! JoJo didn't, but it aired at 2:45 AM, so cut it some slack! Everything LOOKS kinda rough since the NCAA Championship game skewed the scale more than usual. But even so, there's still a slight green tinge to key demos of the Dragon Balls, Black Clover, FLCL Alternative, and even Mind Game! P2+ Last Week This Week Change DBS 1,018,000 977,000 -41,000 DBZKFC 838,000 881,000 43,000 B. Clover 0.27 0.30 0.03 FLCL Alt 0.21 0.24 0.03 Mind Game 0.22 0.18 -0.04 AVERAGE 0.01 FLCL Alternative was up a full .05 from JoJo last week; guess that's the power of a World Premiere sneak preview! Unfortunately, Mind Game didn't fare quite as well, as most people who wanted to see it probably already have, and that's a shame and may give Toonami pause when considering airing a movie in the future. Then again, this potentially established a relationship with gkids, who currently hold the keys to the beloved Ghibli Miyazaki films, which would indubitably do better in the ratings than a subtitled airing of Mind Game! So they may still bring back Month of Movies 3 with a Month of Miyazaki this December; we just never really know... Note that for total viewers and 18-49, Mind Game is being compared against the average of the ratings from 12:30-3 AM on March 24th, with each half-hour from 12:30 AM-2:30 AM weighted double. Since that information is unavailable for 18-34, it's compared to just Gundam IBO, so that -0.01 looks like it's not a bad drop on first glance but it's actually quite generous since ratings rose considerably after Gundam. I'm not showing Subtitled JoJo on my week-to-week comparison, but trust me, at only 324K and 0.15 in 18-49, it was obviously way down--94K and 0.07 in 18-49 from Dandy and Bebop the week before to be exact. And as for retention and change in rank: Total Viewers Show People Retention DBS 977,000 N/A DBZKFC 881,000 90.17% BClover 647,000 73.44% FLCL Alt 521,000 80.53% Mind Game 381,000 73.13% JoJo Sub 324,000 85.04% Adults 18-34 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.51 347,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.48 326,000 94.12% BClover 0.37 251,000 77.08% FLCL Alt 0.31 211,000 83.78% Mind Game 0.22 150,000 70.97% Adults 18-49 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.44 564,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.4 513,000 90.91% BClover 0.30 385,000 75.00% FLCL Alt 0.24 308,000 80.00% Mind Game 0.18 231,000 75.00% JoJo Sub 0.15 192,000 83.33% Adults 18-49 Show Rank Change DBS #7 +1 DBZKFC #9 +0 BClover #15 +3 FLCL Alt #27 N/A Mind Game #39 N/A JoJo Sub #52 -14 I'm just a little disappointed that FLCL Alternative didn't retain just a little better. Mind Game retained about as well as Black Clover; still, that's saying something when a 30 minute show fails to hold about as much interest as a 2+ hour movie; that's why starting this week, Clover has been demoted to 1 AM, making a Naruto-esque mini-block out of it, Hunter x Hunter, and Shippuden. I'd say this is a good move, with DBZ Kai ending soon. Asta's proven he just didn't have what it took to hang with the Dragon Balls, but here comes HaruHaru Haruko in 2 weeks! 1
PokeNirvash
It's April Fool's so I can forgive the ratings for sucking, but still, 300K people watching subs is better than any of us were probably expecting.
The1gairon
381,000 Granted, they only calculate all the half-hour ratings into one average number for movies. Maybe it started off higher? Regardless, DB Super didn't even break a million, which doesn't surprised me given how this is a holiday weekend AND a line-up literally no one but the Toonami crew knew about, but we know that anytime that happens it makes the rest of the block look worse. Black Clover had surprisingly better retention though! And 500K+ is great for a sub-only ep! Edited April 3, 2018 by elfie
The1gairon
Heh. I kinda called it when Black Clover eventually would be moved later in the night. It's just not a good show.
PokeNirvash
Soils the sheets worse than JoJo, I kept telling 'em. At least now Jingai's paying more attention to the demo ratings than the overalls.
Jman
Springing what could have been anything from mustaches to The Disaster Artist ensures this weekend didn’t count. But FLCL 2 and 3 are now talking points, so at least there’s that. Edited April 3, 2018 by Jman

We can also calculate that the total viewers average from 12:30-3 AM was roughly (9*381K+324K)/10, or 375.3K. That's down about 68K from the average for that time period this year.

I'm totally expecting The Disaster Artist, followed by The Room, which means it probably won't happen. It would be totally cool if some action-related sneak peek were to air at 8 PM that Monday, but I doubt we'll see that.
