As a quick word of advice to the ladies, make sure to wear COMFORTABLE SHOES, while shopping. Last night, I went Christmas shopping for a long time with my aunt.

After shopping at 2 MALLS for 4-5 HOURS, I wonder how many calories I burned. Without a doubt, my thighs and feet definitely got a full workout, last night. I wasn't even wearing high heels yet my feet were and still are killing me.

I did the last of my Christmas shopping today. I went to a couple stores in the mall, found a sales associate and said, "I need a comfortable bath pillow."and they hapily tried to upsell the heck out of me.

Merry Christmas.

I was wearing my Rockports, which are really comfortable.

Last week, I already did the last of my Christmas shopping. I went shopping with my aunt last night because it gets darker faster, now that it is fall going into winter.

At maximum, I expected to be gone for 2 hours. It's not like we had more people to shop for because most of us already finished Christmas shopping. 2 hours became 4-5 hours of non-stop shopping at 2 malls.

Wow. That is something I'll never understand. I guess it has to do with being a guy, but I go shopping to get an item, once I get the item I am done. I don't look around.

Well, I should qualify that, if I am shopping for a shirt or suit I look a little bit, but I usually have an idea what I'm looking for to begin with, then my go to sales associate hooks me up with something that is usually better looking than what I had in mind. In a way I guess I just rely on the store professionals to do their job, and having been one for years, I know the routine. I think more people would be able to enjoy the holidays if they did that though, it takes the stress out of things when a real professional can walk you through the shopping process.

Whether I'm shopping for other people or myself, I shop for things that are needed and wanted at a bargain.

4-5 hours jesus christ i think i'd kill myself. i just ask people what they want and either buy it prewrapped from amazon or get it wrapped at the papyrus. i don't give a shit about holidays

Well, some of us older adults still like to physically go to the stores and do our shopping. I just wasn't expecting for it to turn into a shopping spree at 2 malls for several hours. LOL!xD

Definitely this.

But I am really bad on gift-giving no matter the holiday. My extended family has always been big on the obligatory gifts and big on the cost value, as if the gift is how good of a deal you can get on the thing they're probably just going to return, so what even is the point.

I'm a total bargain hunter, which is why I know when I'm being upsold. Sometimes I have to just bite the bullet and pay, depending on the situation.

Then it is beans and rice for dinner for a week.... xD

I get my sister video game stuff because it's something I know and know she'll appreciate, and every once in a while there's something specific I think of for a specific person, but this isn't really the best family to get one adult something and no one else anything.

Well, the family actually does a secret santa grab bag every year to streamline things, once you hit 18 the adults stop giving you gifts and you're  added to the pool. Everyone draws a name on Thanksgiving and we open one at a time on new year's, and you get three guesses as to who picked your name and got you the gift.

Which sounds like a fun thing, but I'm entirely sure the grab bag started before I was born and/or before I can remember and half the people got sick of it 20 years ago, but it still happens because the people who are hardest to shop for still want to get gifts they can return.

That's why it's best to wait for the most expensive products to go on sale. Right now, Boston Store has a lot of products on sale. The sales are not limited to women's clothing.

In fact, they already had sales weeks before Gray Thursday, last month. Last month, I bought a family member a necklace with a matching bracelet for only $10 each. They were originally ~$30 each.

Buying expensive gifts at $10 and under is a bargain. Better yet it's a steal.

Most of the Christmas gifts I bought were at Burlington. I wasn't buying for only 2 people. I was buying for literally a dozen people. Most of the gifts were for family. Some were for friends and their families.

At Burlington, I get the most bang for my bucks. I bought toys, clothes, accessories, electronics, etc. for dirt cheap. Mind you, these products were originally more expensive than what they were being sold as at that store.

Yes and hopefully it's possible to avoid the malls. Because to tie it back to the OP topic before I throw it off the rails, we were at the mall last night and the mall on a weekend in December is not the place to be, unless you like mobs of people and wear comfortable shoes, because it's going to be a while.

So far, we didn't encounter a ginormous mob of people at the mall last night. Yeah there were plenty of cars in the parking lot but we weren't packed inside like a bunch of sardines arm to arm. I think most people already did their shopping last month.

I went to the mall and ran errands a while ago and had on my 4 inch heel boots. Was on my feet for a good 8 hours. At first it 2as torture then my feet passed away. RIP. Didn't feel a thing after an hour or so.

I almost wore my other pair of boots with a slight heel to them. It's a good thing I didn't. If I did, my feet would be in more pain than they have been.

i can see losing track of time in a situation like that :D

Last night, the most of a break we got from shopping was when we were on our way to the 2nd mall. Never in all my years of shopping can I recall of shopping at 2 friggin' malls for that many hours.

I have shopped at strip malls for at least 2 hours but last night's shopping spree was a new experience for me. While we were shopping, I should've bought myself a new pair of gym shoes or something. At least they would've given me more comfort.

After a while, it started feeling like someone folded my feet over like a sandwich in my other pair of boots. When I saw a lady shopping in high heels, it made my feet hurt more just looking at her.

fuck that. i couldnt imagine walking in heels for that long.

if i was a girl and had heels i would go the hippy route.

Like I said earlier, I am glad I didn't decide to wear my other boots with the heels on them. They would've made my feet hurt more. While shopping, I wore winter boots but they have no cushion to them.

They are black suede leather boots with fur lining inside of them and with slight cleats at the bottom for the snow.

I think working retail has permanently hardened my feet, as I can stand all day or walk with no pain. I guess to the average person, being on your feet for 5 hours would be painful. Not trying to trivialize your anecdote, by the way.

Retail can do that to your soul as well.

Now that I am feeling sleepy, I should put some medicine on my feet just before heading to bed. This has been a very exhausting weekend.

I used to use some rolling application with tea tree oil in it when I worked retail, can't remember exactly what it was but it did the trick.

I'm horrible at gift giving so I just don't anymore, plus I'm poor.

You don't have to break the bank to get someone a gift. If you have the rolls of cash, awesome. If you buy something for $10 or less, that's fine. You can always shop at your local dollar store and find something just as nice.

For example, you can buy a mug and fill it with candy or packs of tea. That's a nice gift for $2 right there. It's the fact that you thought enough of the person to give them a gift. If you're artistic, that's even better.

Last Christmas, my friend created an abstract picture for me. Then, she created the picture frame for it, put it in that same frame, and shipped it to me. Her artwork looks like it was professionally made and she's dirt poor.

Whether you are a talented artist, writer, or not, as long as you try being creative with your gift giving or at least think about doing something nice for someone, that's all that should really matter.

I dont wear heels but I did the last of my shopping early yesterday. If I dont have a git for ya now, you're not getting one

You can still buy a present for someone. Since the Orthodox Christians don't celebrate Christmas until January 7th, you still have time. Also, there will be more stuff on clearance by then.;)

I survived the perfume department at Macy's today.

Last minute gift request, normally I hate it because the sales clerks are always "Wouldn't she love this" and spraying crap at you.

I'm thinking, "No, that smells awful, and France needs to embrace soap and hot water instead of stinking toilet water...." while I smile and ask for the perfume I was told to get. (Jimmy Choo)
