Catholic priests aren't the only ones who molest kids. Where there is a position of power, there will be someone who abuses it. The reason Catholic priests are more visible is because the Catholic Church is a nice, tidy, unified bogyman; everybody knows about the Vatican and the Pope, but can you tell me who the current archbishop of Canterbury is? Who keeps track of all of these Methodists and Presbyterians? Where's the headquarters for the Southern Baptists, and who's the chief bible-thumper? Protestantism is too fractured, Judaism is equally decentralized, and at the moment, everyone is more concerned about Muslims blowing them up rather than whether the imams are diddling kiddies down at the mosque while the ayatollahs cover up for them. That said, there is a long history of men hiding their sexuality behind a Roman collar, whether they do it out of a sincere belief that through prayer, service, and abstinence, they can overcome what they perceive as a moral flaw (I speak in terms of perception not because I think pedophilia is fine, but because most of the literature I've read deals more with homosexuals than pedophiles and ephebophiles) or because they feel that a vow of celibacy is a more easily managed beard than a spouse. Sadly, again from what little I've read about pedophiliac priests, a lot of them fall into the former category, and, being only human, find themselves unable to resist temptation.
