I don't think it's inherently toxic so much as there's a need for tuning up moderation standards combined with a spate of certain drama that unfolded this past week. (But yes, some people are just assholes to be fair.) The mod stuff is obviously within my realm of control to make a final decision on, and I think the best way to also diminish any one person's drama without having to permaban anyone (absent clear safety or legal issues etc) is to add more voices - increasing worthwhile conversation while diluting the negative stuff. Obviously we can't bring 2005 back, but at the minimum we want this to be a place worth logging into, whether it's just a tab open in the background while at work or intense toonami discussion on Saturday nights or sports talk during the big game or thoughtfully critiquing sponge's/whomever's fanfics/writing.

Which makes sense. On the flip side, I'm sure we've all got connections to other asmb people who just haven't heard yet, and each new/returning voice makes the place a little more whole. So - I guess, while we aren't doing any sort of major outreach initiatives right now, don't not tell your other asmb friends that the place is here and that it's more than just a splinter board.
-
I definitely don't think we've hit the limit on user-base size. Which isn't to say that we've figured out where to go from here, but the pure fact that we've gotten this number of people purely by word-of-mouth (and a convoluted treasure hunt based on some old post on the [as] subreddit) means that there is definitely low-hanging asmb fruit left out there that just hasn't gotten the memo about UEMB.

DF is where we throw out the drama, but it all congeals together into like a thick putrid slime

The goal is to create minimum standards and moderation protocol to enforce those minimum standards, while at the same time preserving the open atmosphere JMC wanted this place to have. Generally speaking. As everyone was already discussing the issue, there was no sense in not creating a single thread for discussion, questions, and input.

That is correct - that is the whole point of DF

my anxiety dreams either involve my trying to endlessly run away from a tireless person or force, teeth-breaking dreams, or more recently the classic "not going to be able to graduate" dream where I find out I can't graduate high school or college on time and my law degree won't count anymore

HEY MOD was more like "why did u ban my account 'stink1ebum'?" rather than an open policy discussion
-
There have been a number of incidents over the past couple weeks that have necessitated discussion over the future of our moderation policies. My goal is to keep to the spirit of the low-key style JMC intended, but to make it workable in light of the fact that people do not always play nice. A handful of individual threads have began popping up and I want to centralize the conversation in one place. So if you have any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions on how a new way forward, or if you have any general questions for myself or KN[/member] or our three mods: Rogue_Alphonse[/member], MEXobiologist[/member], and viperxmns[/member], or for any other volunteers, please voice them here.

I liked the aspect of Rogue One where they brought back prequel characters and locations in the original trilogy setting, because it's not Coruscant's or Jimmy Smit's fault the prequels were bad so we shouldn't pretend they don't exist. That being said, the obvious criticism of Rogue One is that it's entire purpose was to show classic star wars characters, settings and iconography, and that its new characters and plot were completely flat. Or put another way, their only goal was to power the doomsday machine powered by neckbeard nostalgia jism.
