2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Jman replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
This is not campaigning on policy. I think the world is just done with Trump, while another candidate might have been able to reach past the cult to a more general audience. But the cult was more energized. Granted, their policy is Project 2025. -

Speaking of the economy, during an antitrust trial, Kroger execs admitted under oath they jacked up prices above inflation levels to pad their profits. https://www.rawstory.com/during-antitrust-trial-exec-admits-kroger-jacked-up-milk-and-egg-prices-above-inflation/ Point that out next time someone blames Biden. -

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/jd-vance-kamala-harris-childless-cat-ladies-trump-b2602793.html JD Vance continues to be very weird, but with a thousandth of Trump’s charisma as “what a poor person thinks a rich person is” he’s more bizarre and off putting than anything. -

Well he burned all his credibility. -
Of all the film franchises for Carrey to do and be invested in, from a guy who is legendary for disliking sequels, Sonic was not the choice I would have had.

Brings back memories of MST3K knowing they were on dubious legal ground, so they ended every episode with “Keep Circulating The Tapes.” Imagine where we would be without those brave souls firing up a VCR recording an SLP quality recording of something otherwise lost to an archive.

My guess is she’s being trotted out to counter all the GOPe members endorsing Harris. -
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/judge-orders-martin-shkreli-turn-copies-unreleased-wu-tang-clan-album-rcna168333 The rabbit hole on this one goes deep, but long story short - Asshole raises price of life-saving drug because capitalism. Ends up convicted of fraud. Before he was convicted, he bought the world’s rarest album, but apparently kept some copies for himself which is against the album’s TOS. A cryptocurrency firm bought the album and demanded he destroy the copies to not lower their value, and a judge agreed.

I’m only mentioning the last part because Moon has actually been a big part of their advertising for Rewind. You’ll be watching King of the Hill reruns on a Saturday and you’ll see the ads with Usagi front and center. Still, if it’s Japanese only, maybe that means they can air a rerun outside of that 5pm Friday timeslot.

I think, for better or worse, there’s a reason the most popular anime on Netflix are things like Baki, Kengan, and Record of Ragnarok. Although the considerable success of shows like My Happy Marriage and Delicious in Dungeon also show there’s more than one way to be successful. But when DeMarco gets the purse strings, we get FLCL Part 5: Jason Takes Manhattan, or a Rick and Morty anime that doesn’t appeal to anime fans or Rick and Morty fans. They have nearly 30 years of exhibit proof as to what has consistently worked and what hasn’t worked. But that vision of a “bespoke” action block, a goal that should be an admirable one so we don’t all drown in an endless deluge of Shounen Jump adaptations, has resulted in flop after flop after flop. Even so, DeMarco has avoided the Eye of Zaslav so far because Toonami is a niche block, but now he’s executive producing an animated Lord of the Rings film that by all rights should not exist, starring a Girlboss character so important to the lore Tolkien never even bothered to name her. If that bombs, I don’t see DeMarco being long for Toonami, because that will be a much bigger failure.
