Equal parts unapologetic celebration of an older kind of hero, isekai power fantasy, and discussion of masculinity that says you don’t need to be embarrassed of these kinds of stories. Somehow, and I don’t know how, Jared Leto knocks it out of the park as a Skeletor that channels both his threatening Langella version and the cartoon version.

Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circle. 8/10 Less giant robot battles than one would expect from a Gundam movie (save a very good one at the end) and instead a fascinating character study of a man wracked with guilt over the world but tempted to throw away his cause because he’s horny as hell. Actually playing him as sexual but pathetic in how he handles it makes it quite the interesting antidote to the “everyone is beautiful, no one is horny” leads of the 2010s.
