No no, it'll be over because they won't want to participate anymore. A "we're taking our ball and going home" situation. -

Incidentally, can confirm, subbed ep is freely available on [as] app (and presumably website). Guess it makes sense, [as] production, would have total streaming rights. -

I just figured the black-and-white was mostly because this is trying to be treated as a faithful adaptation, as close as you can literally get to "manga but animated." But maybe also kinda yeah, I think too it'd lose some of the impact if it were to be colorized. -
One Piece Episode 689 Discussion

Been wondering, but.. something occurred to me.. what was even the point of that entire coliseum part of this story? Like... it's established as a trap for Luffy, and the bait needed to be the fruit... but why the fuck would they actually put up the actual fruit for grabs? It's just... there, easy pickings for their enemy. Why not use a fake? Why not lie and not put anything in the chest? Why not rig it in some way? It just makes absolutely no sense that it was ever a possibility someone would be able to take something that powerful and use it against the family.. I guess maaaybe if there's some long term plan of "hahaha, it was sabotaged all along and now you're going to die in 3 days" or something. But, currently, feels like a very weak plot point. -

[as] still has a website??? Judging from the app on my Roku, usually anything actively airing is on a significant delay, if it's unlocked at all. Actually, checking just now, I've only just realized how much is freely available. Still, not sure I wanna wait that long to resume watching things, and I'm a bad pirate.. -

Not for nothin, but... the "Splatty Tomato" episode of South Park also just happens to mention President Garrison "running around eating our pets and terrorizing our kids." -
I mean.. I get it. It's running with the old trope of "nothing shown in sequential order." Because Elle's whole thing is time happens all at once or whatever. It'll be one of those things that maaaaybe makes more sense by the end when it all ties together, and will still require remembering it all, and probably still take someone cutting it all into sequential order to really make sense.. whatever can be made here. I just don't think they needed R&M to tell that story, and lifting the characters to put them in it has drained them of most of their characterization, and forces a lot of really flat/awkward writing that simply doesn't fit.

We won't hear anything about it until after it comes to light she's being paid campaign hush money. -

Well.. maybe there's something to be said about the relative awareness that could be a reflection of a candidate's supporters.... I mean, in fairness, maybe not quite as agreeable with the statement that an "alternative to the status quo" is a better left... not that I'm against the idea, but that's not exactly doing anything as far as alternatives go.. unless she's advocating building up a pocket in the left that intends to splinter off or something. -

I'd maybe say before any of that, we could start with having a system that isn't full of clowns. Prolly a lot easier to engage new voters if they're not going into it having, for all their lives, seen nothing but buffoonery and incompetence. We got a whole generation coming into this voting block having just witnessed the government trying to ban TikTok, for example..... Or maybe some of that onus can be placed on the media outlets that thrive on the worst of humanity, wallowing in the outrageous while our successes quietly wither in silence. Idk. Just. Getting folks involved in the system feels like a complete mixed bag at best if their perception of the system is that it's completely out of touch with reality. -

When we said "eat the rich," we didn't expect it'd be the rich doing the eating. -

Not cherry-picking here, but this bumps into a thought that occurred to me recently.. the way politics has been morphed into an extension of identity (especially, but not exclusively prevalent on the right), the way it leads to... fucking all of the nonsense we keep seeing.. it seriously just adds up to another cult-like element. You can take your "talking points" and memes and share around the things that totally make perfect sense to you (or at least you're told by smarter people they make total sense...), and, naturally, it backfires, you get laughed at, ostracized. And so you go back to the comfort of your "group" to be told you did nothing wrong, "they just can't think as smartly as you" or whatever.. it was never about evangelizing, it's not spreading the word to anyone that will listen.. the people higher up are getting the parrots to repeat some absolute batshit stuff just to reinforce that tribalism, to get followers to insulate themselves against the outside, because the outside is cruel and will mock your beliefs. It's damn near the exact same playbook as sending out fresh recruits door to door to "spread the word of god" or whatever else. The stated goal is irrelevant, the ulterior intent is to have these people get shut out and put down enough that they rebound into the cult even harder. Idk.. a bit rambly, maybe making a few leaps too many.. but it's a disconcerting consideration that tribalism is becoming a growing/driving force behind politics. -

Are debates really about swaying anyone, or are they just a contest to see who can produce the most/best sound clips?
