  1. Probably because TBS is “Very Funny” and insists on being comedy focused. That’s what screwed over Final Space. All those forces awkward jokes ruined the story
  2. I don’t get it either. There has to be a median between being stuck behind streaming or holding rights to a dub for 2 years while not airing it and also only streaming select parts of it on the website. Besides Titan, the best deal Toonami got was the Dimension W deal. They premiered it and then Funimation streamed it 2 weeks later. Japanese companies like their shows on TV and the next day deal (even at the same time) would be 0 downside. I’m guessing the answer is that Toonami sees no upside to paying extra for what would probably be a similar return. Funimation doesn’t seem interested in it either. In fact, since FN launched there have been 0 dub premieres from them. I caught a lot of hate for saying in 2018 that they don’t seem to want their dubs to premiere on TV anymore. People took that to mean we’d get no shows from them, but Funimation in particular is very big at going direct to consumer. Them releasing the new episodes of DBZ on tape the summer before a new season would start was the beginning of that!
  3. I’ve given up on them being THE place where big shows premiere. Many just don’t see it as the best way to do that. I’ve pretty much come to terms of what Toonami can be so in the time it has left, I’d like it to just play some intresting shows rather then chase things after they are already popular Even the idea of originals seems to just bring a bunch of people wondering when they’ll hit streaming
  4. I’m at the point where I’d like Toonami to offer the opposite of what’s “hot” this season. They are always going to be slightly behind even for the dub and those same shows are already being spammed on other services. It doesn’t really benefit them or the viewers They should go for things that didn’t get that kind of attention already. Go for the title that came out a few seasons ago that didn’t hit that big in the fandom, not play Demon Slayer 6 months after everyone has already seen it. They seem to think the latter is always the better option and I don’t think it’s going to have the same effect as it would a few years ago. It’s basically a rerun at that point. However a show like MIA is sort of known but not at a level of popularity that literally everyone has scene it
  5. I’m hoping for the next episode soon. I can’t wait to find out what happens when Goku fights the Ginyu Force 😁
  6. Little tip: do a reset of your box closer to Saturday and sometimes the guide will update
  7. I legit wonder if the show was animated in the traditional anime style and had actual VA’s instead of screen actors, the show would be better received? Many of the actors have very extensive resumes, but something seems off with the performances
  8. I just mean the audience that found the show through Toonami may not wait around for months for them to pick it up. Especially when it could be months (and won’t give much notice of a premiere date)
  9. The “for now” part worries me. They have this tendency to continue to go after shows they can’t get and treat it like some Victory when they get it way after it’s relevant and their isn’t much of an audience for it
  10. Wouldn’t it be something if he’s right and Netflix went and bought the exclusive TV rights just so AS can’t air it but the streaming rights are non exclusive so they can stream it no problem?
  11. Doesn’t make sense to not air the normal lineup. That’s a whole week away from Christmas and you can be sure they’ll preempt the next 2 weeks. Although I tend to question the need to not air on 1/1 as the holidays are over then
  12. All joking aside. I think it’s a large problem of Adult Swims than just Toonami i think most likely every night of the week has lost the Family Guy audience. FXX had an increase almost the same as Adult Swims decrease last week. People will just flip to wherever it is You have to take into account that the w tire network relies on Family Guy to boost viewership. Nothing is going to touch that Rick’s nice but it’s not the same level of casual friendly that Family Guy is
  13. Honestly there are some lines in there some people may enjoy hearing.. People seem to have an attachment to dialogue in there...despite in many cases being wrong ("I am the hope of the universe..ect)
  14. This is my new definitive Z. This is the version I’ll have my son watch for his first viewing! Hope you keep it up Your’re almost at Goku vs Burter and Jeice and I just realized something. You kept the Z Burter which will probably force you to use the 99 Schemmel recording because of what Burter says Z “No ones that fast” ”well apparently I am” Kai “I’m the fastest in the Universe” “Well maybe the second fastest now” You can’t really have Z Burter say that and Kai Goku reply that. I think there might be a similar problem with Piccolo/Nail since you kept the Z Nail. Too bad unfortunately, I was hoping to be rid of those awful 99 performances once and for all 😂. Maybe some kind of EQ can help with that one
  15. I enjoyed the flow of the block from 2003-2008 when you had Futurama Family Guy, WS originals, then anime. I never felt like it didn’t all belong together because they were always packaged that way. I especially liked it when anime had its own BW cards (although they wore out the welcome with many)
  16. Got to see how Super did to see if that also did lower than usual I think that hyped Elon Musk SNL may have diverted some attention away
  17. A worry I think we all have is that no matter how low the numbers get for Super, they'll still believe anything else will just perform worse. its gong to be a catch 22 until they actually try something different
  18. Network just cares about retaining Family Guy and getting the 1200 slot as high as it can be for advertisers
  19. I get it. You kind of feel like an audience who could care less for the block is catered to over the dedicated week in week out fans I feel the same with the holiday rationale. We pause for the people who only watch when it’s convenient for them. You feel a sense of ownership and more things of a right to have things different because at the end of the day you devote more of your time to the block than the casuals. I totally get it. I feel the same about theme parks during the busy season when the tourists who only go on holidays crowd the parks and kind of “take it away from me” for awhile. But remember- the casuals are the majority of the viewership. Still hate that every show suffers the chance at a better timeslot to cater to a rerun
  20. Especially if you’re moving the block back to a time period that just a few months ago was said to did not work. It could very well just not be a good time for viewers to catch it due to going out and not being home.A lot of the viewership work second shift, there’s also dinners out, and movies ect.
  21. Honestly, I don’t know why he felt compelled to say anything. According to him, he doesn’t have a say in the schedule- so he always uses it as an opportunity direct the anger to the programming department while blaming fans for not watching when that wasn’t entirely true. I just wouldn’t say anything rather than talk just so he can say something. He did it too when they had to stop the 7 hour Toonami in 2018. He said something to the effect of “Yeah. I tried to tell Lazzo that wouldn’t work but he insisted on trying it” His own boss. I guess they all have a good relationship
  22. They kind of took a gamble that the fans of the show would follow along (and they did). What wasn’t helpful was Jason’s comments about “well maybe if more people watched at 10:30 it wouldn’t have to move”. A little misleading statement. The show wasn’t doing bad- just not 10:30 good. Earlier in the year they acknowledged 11 was the earliest the block should start- but the “gotta shove Titan in right when it’s done so Funimation can stream it”forced an expansion There was a lot of talk at the time that moving it to 3:30 was in retaliation for Funimation backing out of a deal or something and that “power move” brought them back and we’ve had a bunch of their shows since then. I even heard some talk that it’s what got Toonami season 4 so quickly. Not sure if that was a thing or not- who knows? I think it was just a programming chess move and it had nothing to do with anything else At the time, it did feel like kind of a burn off and we were done with MHA
  23. I want to say that the network made then shift back to 11 because MHA wasn’t performing at 10:30. They also knew they wouldn’t be playing season 4 right after 3 ended. They didn’t know when exactly it would play either. But they didn’t want to shift the whole lineup so they lazily just moved MHA to 3:30 because it basically got it out of the way. There was simply too much else going on with the lineup at the time to do anything else with it if the network wouldn’t let them keep 10:30. They probably weren’t intending to replace it with anything at the time (although they did end up replacing it with Dr. Stone and shoving Lupin down to the death slot)
  24. This is not a way for them to say things like “see? Anime doesn’t perform on weeknights” Everything is working against it
  25. We’re at a point (and probably always have been) where they’ll say that one of the reasons the block continues to be profitable is because they only do the bear minimum of on network promotion and virtually no outside promotion. They are perfectly fine with Toonami just existing and not being any bigger than it is when it comes to acquisitions. The best we got is tweets from the VAs and the company itself. The fact that Toonami has no official Twitter account doesn’t help either. But we never see ads on websites or YouTube. I guess they don’t care to spend to hype up something they don’t own and have unlimited use of. Meanwhile everyone asks “When’s Demon Slayer getting a dub on Netflix?” the strategy for the originals will have to be vastly different.
