A little worried here because unless they expand or decide NOT to rerun Lazarus, where would they fit a new show?

This is such a far cry from the days of Adult Swim announcing most of their anime pickups at the upfronts- even ones airing much later that year Going way back- Toonami announcing Gundam Wing and Tenchi Muyo in the fall of 99 when the later didn’t air until the following summer!

We heard it right from Demarco, they just sit around and ask for Bleach over and over again till they get it. If they aren’t getting those shows, they just don’t bother. Seems about right the drought was them probably being told Daima and possibly Bleach or MHA were a maybe and they just left blank spots on the schedule and had no back up plan What gets me about what he said was that if there’s an opportunity to grab a show, it has to line up with an opening occurring right at that moment. We have so many droughts during the year, why not grab a show and hold it for when a future slot? Are they really turning shows down just because the block is full? They are going to have to spend to fill a spot at some point anyway- why not take care of it early?

The SENTAI thing is really curious because they seem to be the company most willing to help the block. He even said that they give them a good deal on the dubbing. Is just nothing of interest to them? I think the stall schedules are a result of them assuming certain things would work out and they didn’t. I am curious if the budget is timed to reset differently now

Honestly it would be nice to get an interview with Kim or Gil, but I think they’d be even more of a closed book

Do you think it’s the questions themselves or how they are asked? I do think Jason should be able to handle a tough question or 2 as long as it’s asked in a professional non hostile way. I got a few questions answered on a live stream that were uncomfortable topics, but it’s all in how you ask However, I’m not sure he’s the one anymore who can answer the type of questions he’d want to know about current block operations

why do they want to kill Axel?

It’s an 8 year time skip so they are showing everything that happened Hank went to Saudi Arabia on a temporary job and lived in one of those company towns kind of like an army base. Those are more like small town America frozen in time than even in this country. He’s due for a culture shock when he returns Im assuming they rented the house in the meantime or it’s a work exchange program where a Saudi Guy moved into his house. They did cast for a new character named Mohammed

All kinds of things could’ve happened We’ll have to watch subsequent weeks to see if it bounces back or if this is what this lineup will do

The studio screwed up and didn’t talk to Lee about it first. This also put Anaris in an uncomfortable situation because she probably assumed this had been dealt with or Lee was unavailable. I believe Lee had said she was excited to come back, but I don’t put that on Anaris to know. She handled it very well even after losing the role It’s the studios right to cast how they wish, but you don’t just put the episode out and not tell the previous actor what you are doing. It all could’ve been handled behind the scenes and not put either actress in an awkward situation

Best case: we get BE season 2 and the return of one of our staples (Stone, MHA, ect) Worst Case: we get Lazurus Subs and another rerun of an AS original

One Piece is going to be ever present, so I’d assume it’s always going to be part of the lineup. Not worried about that But are we going to have any other premieres before 1:30?

Not only is it not funny, it kind of is demeaning to women. I wouldn’t think women actually would want to be portrayed like these characters

You mean the show where the lady spends an episode looking for her uterus so she can get knocked up by a basketball player? Definitely Toonami material

I believe programming is stuck in the mindset of 10 years ago when A tier shows were an easy option, dub premiere or not. Funimation typically didn’t give them dub premieres but didn’t block them from getting shows so there wasn’t an issue. Even Simuldub shows could show up within a month. Not a bad deal. They didn’t have to hunt or look for B tier shows But now it seems like they are convinced that ONLY A tier shows are worth their time and won’t consider anything else. They’d rather run a rerun than take any kind of chance on a show that isn’t a huge name. It really doesn’t make a huge difference ratings wise and they also run the risk of people long have watched it elsewhere Wouldn’t it be better to keep the block interesting by keeping shows coming in. At least in the past you knew when a show ended a new one would come in- even if it wasn’t the biggest or newest thing. Months of stalling and reruns don’t encourage engagement. Originals are fine, but I’m tired of them sacrificing half a year stalling and marathoning them at the expense of everything else

They would be better served finding shows they aren’t over exposed then. I don’t think it helps them if they become the 5th place presenting an already popular show.

Them passing over dub premieres in hopes of getting it cheaper way down the line is everything wrong with their mindset

I feel like that Sunrise got mad at Demarco and Toonami for airing Origin at 3am

In the same section he was also talking about things like Thundercats and Ronin Warriors

He’s talking going waaayy back to the launch shows. I think MeTV Toons will have that type of thing covered. They already got Johnny Quest on there, wouldn’t be shocked if Voltron or TCats show up there This Toonami needs to be foward looking

This looks and sounds too much like Bebop. I was never huge on Watanabe stuff. It’s ok, but I don’t revere it like most really hope it was worth all the stalling. I’m rooting for it to be good at least
