I believe programming is stuck in the mindset of 10 years ago when A tier shows were an easy option, dub premiere or not. Funimation typically didn’t give them dub premieres but didn’t block them from getting shows so there wasn’t an issue. Even Simuldub shows could show up within a month. Not a bad deal. They didn’t have to hunt or look for B tier shows But now it seems like they are convinced that ONLY A tier shows are worth their time and won’t consider anything else. They’d rather run a rerun than take any kind of chance on a show that isn’t a huge name. It really doesn’t make a huge difference ratings wise and they also run the risk of people long have watched it elsewhere Wouldn’t it be better to keep the block interesting by keeping shows coming in. At least in the past you knew when a show ended a new one would come in- even if it wasn’t the biggest or newest thing. Months of stalling and reruns don’t encourage engagement. Originals are fine, but I’m tired of them sacrificing half a year stalling and marathoning them at the expense of everything else

They would be better served finding shows they aren’t over exposed then. I don’t think it helps them if they become the 5th place presenting an already popular show.

Them passing over dub premieres in hopes of getting it cheaper way down the line is everything wrong with their mindset

I feel like that Sunrise got mad at Demarco and Toonami for airing Origin at 3am

In the same section he was also talking about things like Thundercats and Ronin Warriors

He’s talking going waaayy back to the launch shows. I think MeTV Toons will have that type of thing covered. They already got Johnny Quest on there, wouldn’t be shocked if Voltron or TCats show up there This Toonami needs to be foward looking

This looks and sounds too much like Bebop. I was never huge on Watanabe stuff. It’s ok, but I don’t revere it like most really hope it was worth all the stalling. I’m rooting for it to be good at least

Why not just air it now? Why are they playing games?

Even if Lazurus is amazing, throwing out half the year and sacrificing everything is is not worth it. It’s also going to get 2 weeks of marathons and probably a top of the block rerun also That’s assuming the dub even premieres on the block I miss the days when we just had a stream of replacements. They weren’t the huge shows or even newest shows , but if one show ended you got a replacement.

That’s another thing The bumpers have been very low effort again. Too much “will be right back”/ “now continues” instead of the fun dialogue they used to do. This block is losing everything that makes it unique. Next they’ll stop using Steve and Dana’s voices

Why are they waiting until May?

The problem isn’t the type of show. The problem is it’s another rerun

Honestly this should’ve been a double lineup reveal just to rip the band aid off. Don’t play games, just give it to us straight

I really hope they don’t blank out the schedule just to reveal Shoegaze next week

I appreciated some of his information but his public trashing of CR and Sony probably didn’t help things.

Besides Rooster Fighter, what else is there? I don’t recall any others announced Superman isn’t confirmed and neither is Primal so who knows if either of them will be here this year

What if they don’t even have season 2 of Blue Exorcist?

If this is what they intend to do, then there really isn’t a point in the block continuing other than a vanity project just to say it isn’t cancelled. Obviously Saturday night isn’t their ideal premiere time and they aren’t willing to air the block on another night for legitimate reasons. It’s ok to let it go if it’s just mostly encores and reruns. The licensing problems just compound the problem. Just enjoy it for what it was while we had it good. Getting reruns isn’t a victory. I see all these celebratory posts about a 3am Sailor Moon rerun when it’s the same episodes that just aired on rewind. The same thing when Primal aired on the block as a rerun. I mean, it’s cool it airs with bumpers, but the show should’ve been there from the start. The network and WBD just don’t see the value in the block. On top of that, I see a lack of evidence that anyone working on the block cares anymore. We used to get Tumblr posts and Demarco was very accessible for questions and communications. Now we just get a “check out our lineup” with no context . Demarco is gone from social media because Elon Musk exists or something like that. I don’t really get it, but that’s his choice These originals have been the whole focus for the last 5 years and even more so since Sony has been an issue. We sacrifice months of the schedule to accommodate them to ensure it keeps the top of the block, gets marathons, and reruns.

People will act like getting MHA S7 or Daima way down the line while they stall all year to afford them is a victory I’d much rather have a revolving door of smaller titles like MASHLE vs them continuing to go after big shows. I actually miss the days when those were just off the table but we knew for sure a leaving show would be replaced with something new, even if it was an older show that just had never aired.

I believe it because MAX is the priority and it’s air date will hinge on what’s acceptable for it to be released on there

Just saying that Toonami isn’t introducing people to the show- just airing the seasons long after anyone cares. Them not getting it sooner is a Toonami problem- not the viewers who don’t tune in to something they watched months ago They have no negotiating strength anymore. They have to wait until it’s at clearance prices

Getting a year old season doesn’t bring the masses

So it’s safe to say the block is much lower on the list of priorities than years past
