  1. Especially considering half the people were expecting a nostalgia block and the other half a block with all new shows. Neither of which was what we got. Being upfront that it was only going to be 2 new shows alongside Bleach and ASA reruns helped lower expectations of what this Toonami would start out as
  2. Seriously. Last minute schedule drops don’t do anyone any good I feel like this is revenge for Soul Eater showing up on a guide early Remember Lupin 5? They were going to take that all the way to Momocon until Epcar himself confirmed it in late April of 2019
  3. I think I speak for many when I say that the constant stalling, hoping for a new show and then not getting a new show is getting a little old. We keep trying to rationalize it and be positive but You can only blame CR so much. it appears to me that they are intentionally backing off acquisitions and prioritizing originals. But, what they have in the works isn’t coming any time soon and won’t be able to fill a 3 hour block
  4. Next time he has an AMA, someone should ask him
  5. Yeah. I can’t see them being too excited for a short term deal on something unless it’s paired with a multi year MAX agreement
  6. I’m guessing also they got a commitment from AS to share UWE Superman and Rick Anime and that caused them to back off having to look for new lead shows Also, the ratings haven’t been terrible despite all this and that’s taken the pressure off them to look for new things WBD’s tendency to be cheap could see a lack of value in an acquisition that doesn’t have reuse potential or max streaming I also think it’s always going to be easier to get approved to acquire a known entity or even if it’s an average performer because of predictability. If they have Lupin show available to air, they’ll always pick that over a brand new show because they have some idea of how it’ll perform vs risk something else bombing entirely So in my estimation, there is an intention to some of this vs them just continuing to chase dead end deals. If WBD is serious about Toonami’s future, throw them some stuff to keep them going. DC stuff, I think Scavengers should be a simul premiere also if they are trying to showcase the block
  7. Right- it’s not doomsaying, it’s a fact that they are light on the acquisition end. They can’t keep saying “Sony Sony Sony” either because that’s been a reality since 2021. There are other companies that are willing to give them something. Can’t keep hoping they’ll change their mind
  8. They seem to hold timeslots down because this seems to be the one audience in TV that doesn’t record things or uses a cable guide. We’ve seen proof time and again that moving a timeslot causes some of the audience to believe a show is gone. It’s like they are still stuck 20 years ago and only flip the TV on at the exact moment a show airs If you think I’m being harsh, look at some of the comments whenever a schedule change is announced and they ask what happened to the show that just ended and is being replaced
  9. I wouldn’t be surprised if scheduling choices in the future are made by AI because it can take into account so many factors based on cost, ratings, promotions, sponsorship, ect Perhaps it can be used for other things like picking appropriate episodes to air during holiday weeks, whether or not a marathon is warranted, ect. It would be based on actual data vs a persons antiquated idea of what works in TV Now if only it could be used to find Toonami a good show and take bias out of the equation 😂
  10. All we keep getting are sequel seasons of the same shows for various reasons, not surprised people burnout on them the longer they go on On the anime side, we haven’t been introduced to any new worlds since last year
  11. Is this going to be another “AS first, Toonami later” thing?
  12. It’s funny, I see some people defending their pickiness. “They can’t just air ANYTHING!” ”If they don’t get popular shows the ratings will suffer!” “They don’t have time to research shows and all the popular ones are owned by Sony. Sentai and Viz don’t have anything worthy of airing” Then, when they work out a deal for a sequel season owned by CR, everyone thinks it means something. But until I see them get a show that isn’t a sequel from when Funimation had the show, I wouldn’t think the relationship has improved. I’d rather they try things that are actually obtainable and fail rather than exist like this with constant delays every time they need to get a new show
  13. That’s absolute bull that they couldn’t just air an extra One Piece or Stone If they go for a full rerun of this and they still don’t have a new show, I don’t know what to think. If it is a one off, they got to know what this looks like
  14. Already seeing places like Amazon, Apple, and YouTube featuring some of these services as “channel add ons” where you can watch them all in the same place. The only difference is the price is the same as the standalone, but it does simplify things The services resisted this because it involves revenue sharing but some eventually got on board because they realized people want simplicity Amazon lets you add Paramount and Max and you watch it all in Prime Video. It all just goes to your Amazon account. Very simple Cable companies let you add it on but it still invokes logging in to the services separately rather than it all being on your guide. Disney will soon offer Hulu as a tab in plus it’s happening slowly
  15. Right, sequel seasons give us no real information. We only know what Jason tells us and I don’t think he even knows where they stand It’s like when I was told I didn’t know what I was talking about when I said Toonami wouldn’t get dub premieres from Funimation anymore before because they were airing Super and Titan. We all know those were controlled by an external party and an old favorable contract.
  16. I don’t believe it yet either I have a feeling anything that was airing before the merger has some kind deal set when they were Funimation. But while Funimation would let Toonami air a show 2 weeks after them, CR is pushing it to 6-8 weeks I remember after that announced MHA, some on Twitter were like “haha look at all you fools who said they can’t get CR titles. If you don’t work at Toonami you don’t know anything so keep your mouth shut” Well, Demarco publicly stating the problems with Sony is where we get the ideas from. We really wouldn’t know that if not for what he’s saying. Also, like you said, until we get a non sequel title from them, I don’t think of them as anything other than a forced partner
  17. It does drive me crazy when fans still justify the lack of pickups but saying “well they can’t get anything popular”. We’ve been past that for 2 years now, they’ve had ample time to adjust and it seems like they still hold out hope that CR is going to magically turn around and run back into Toonami’s arms. If we’ve seen anything from them the last few months- they are a company that doesn’t GAF about anything except dominating the market. Even doing shitty things to their own talent to get there. Why would they all of a sudden care about helping Toonami? They need to stop expecting a miracle with the big titles and just get SOMETHING that’s not a rerun from another source. Try it out. People will still defend this and say “well what if the ratings are bad and the block gets cancelled? They can’t just get anything!” IMO Then that’s what happens, we can either try an interesting block and fail or continue in a state of perpetual mediocrity and reruns.
  18. Don’t know if he follows this board, but he posted a thread about Twitter bringing out the worst in people, but says it’s mostly been that way since Elon took over
  19. Not to mention the political fighting. It’s his Twitter so he can do whatever he wants with it, but spending time doing that and the random mid-day movie rewatches doesn’t give the impression that he’s strapped for time.
  20. Don’t mind him sharing his opinion, but he seems to posts things he knows are going to generate discussion and disagreements then gets mad at people who don’t agree with him I remember when he was big on Ask.fm he responded to me implying my question was really stupid and obvious. He could’ve just not answered. It seemed like he did it to show people how he deals with “dumb” questions Hes the smartest guy in the room with the correct opinions on everything and you better not tell him otherwise
  21. He does this all the time where he posts an odd take on something but gets mad at anyone who disagrees with him. I mean you can disagree with him, but you have to tread REAL lightly or he gets offended. But if you’re putting something out there that you know is going get pushback- be ready for the comments
  22. I’m going to guess no, but a lot of those guys are just starting out. GT has his reputation, but he’s also friends with all of these guys going back to the CN days. That alone probably helps him get his way I do appreciate him actually answering the questions, but it does leave us with a few more. The biggest is how will airing Primal/Uniciorn on Thursday get it more attention? The only obvious thing is do it can get out on MAX before the weekend Lastly, his SJ answer has never made a lot of sense. It really boils down to he had a show he wanted in what he thinks is a more visible timeslot and Toonami not only airs late, but it’s known for anime. However, they also aired it on Sunday and Wednesday Primetime slots. I can definitely understand if he wanted Primal and Unicorn to be there, but they are at midnight. As far as “making a big hooplah” for Jack, they definitely did so I don’t know what he’s on about there. It seems he’s just dancing around the fact that he doesn’t like the timeslot and he thinks it needs more visibility.
  23. I asked a follow up question and he said he has nothing to do with scheduling, which I believe. I just think it’s a combination of AS knowing his thoughts on the subject and them knowing the projects are more mainstream then the average Toonami program. The general lack of awareness that Toonami is still around probably doesn’t help Jack did great on the block so his fears may have been before it aired, but once his thoughts were out there AS may be just reading into it too much and the Thursday compromise is born I respect that he at least answered the question because it would be very easy to just ignore
