saito34 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I somehow missed this announcement or maybe forgot about it, so apologies if it's old news. First impressions - it looks amazing. Can't imagine a better visual approach to a reboot. Much closer to the manga and no cheap looking 3D. The original series were stone-cold classics, but the visuals were very streamlined and polished. As a 90's anime fanboy, this is ideal. 1 Quote
Toonamiguy321 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 That’s good and all, but can it top this 17 seconds of cinema? 2 Quote

Jman Posted April 26 Posted April 26 It’s apparently on Prime Video to boot. Hopefully the dub is decent. 1 Quote

Yeah, it made sense they could do that but it still didn't fit the tone at all. However, that aside, overall I still enjoyed this installment of GITS. It was great hearing the dub cast together again. And it sucks that the two blu-ray sets didn't include the dub due to Netflix, have no choice but to try to keep a copy of the blu-ray video combined with the dub. 1 Quote

Spoiler My biggest problems were them going to the trouble of having Takashi be different from the other post-humans (actually speaks, doesn't kill family members at the slightest hesitation, etc.) only to make him stereotypically silent and omnicidal like the rest, and them teasing the fact that his classmate whose molestation and subsequent suicide inspired his post-human activities in the first place as being alive within N all along and doing absolutely nothing with it. Patrick Huge's naked backflips have nothing on those failures of potential. Here's hoping Science SARU pulls off something magical. 2 Quote
saito34 Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 I might have to give Arise another go. I think I watched the majority of it in bits and pieces, but I remember it being not terrible. The art in 2045 just really turned me off. 1 Quote

Yeah, I don't fully remember it and haven't rewatched in some time so I think I do too, but I remember that overall I felt Arise was decent, which isn't bad given the high bar for GITS content. I remember I really enjoyed the "forming the team" prequel aspect of it. It's hard to put my finger on it and even harder to describe why, but I remember feeling like somehow the development of the mysteries just lacked something even though they technically connected. I did also watch it the first time as the OVAs released though too, so there were gaps between getting to watch each one. I also remember that I quite liked the "New Movie" finale of it. viperxmns Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Lookat them using that hella adult swim style bumper at the end of the op promo Will we get it on toonami at some point though.. Quote
3ngag3 Posted May 12 Posted May 12 The new GitS looks fascinating to me because there are probably others like myself who's first exposure to the series was either the movies or Stand Alone Complex. It must feel so jarring so see such a art shift between the past and now the present. 1 Quote
Jman Posted May 12 Posted May 12 You would never expect these faces from Oshii characters. Which is how you can tell the original manga is from the dude behind Dominion Tank Police. 1 Quote
