A Mexican restaurant near me got raided by ICE. I got banned for a few days on reddit for telling a retarded bitch to go kill herself.

I'm starting to really hate this country.

Trump orders opening of migrant detention center at Guantánamo Bay

The $13 million per prisoner cost almost certainly makes Guantánamo the world's most expensive detention program. there are currently only 4 in the facility.

concentration camp: a place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities, sometimes to provide forced labor or to await mass execution. The term is most strongly associated with the several hundred camps established by the Nazis in Germany and occupied Europe in 1933–45, among the most infamous being Dachau, Belsen, and Auschwitz.

And I actually read some of Prpject 2025 today. They want to bring back capital punishment in every state and have it used in a swift fashion.

These people are pure evil. This is not overblown leftist hysteria. We are in serious trouble.

prison is big money. big big money.

The cost of keeping a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay is estimated to be over $13 million per year. This makes it one of the most expensive prisons in the world.

The cost per prisoner in the federal prison system varies by security level and type of facility. In 2024, the average daily cost to house a prisoner in a federal prison was:

  • Minimum security: $151.02 per day
  • Low security: $25,378 per year
  • Medium security: $26,247 per year
  • High security: $33,930 per year

Isn't it so high because it's relative to how many people are in the facility vs. operating costs? Like, I sincerely don't believe it would cost 13 billion a year if there were 1000 people in there.

****also in 2003 were many $$ drops to iraq, with absolutely no checks/balances or bookkeeping. one of several, losses of vast amounts of cash by the military complex.

In 2003, the cost to operate Guantanamo Bay detention camp was significantly less than the billions it would eventually cost in later years, but exact figures for that specific year are difficult to pinpoint precisely due to the early stages of the facility's development.

However, we can estimate based on information available:
  • Early Estimates:
Initial estimates for the cost of the Iraq War, which began in 2003, were in the tens of billions of dollars, and the cost of operating Guantanamo was initially projected to be a fraction of that.

  • Early Costs:
By 2003, the facility was still under construction and development, with the initial camp headquarters being built in 2004.

  • Rising Costs:
While the exact cost for 2003 is not readily available, by 2013, the total cost of building and operating the prison from 2002 to 2014 was estimated at $5.2 billion, and that figure has continued to rise.

  • Per-Prisoner Costs:
In 2013, the per-prisoner cost was estimated to be over $13 million per year, indicating the significant financial burden of the detention facility.

In essence, while the exact cost of running Guantanamo Bay in 2003 is not readily available, it was significantly lower than the billions of dollars it has cost in later years, as the facility was still in its early stages of development and the prisoner population was also smaller at that time

Biographers have noted Trump is as materialist and secular as they come, but this is clearly more chum for his low IQ voter base.

Seriously one of the biggest disappointments . . . had she not done her TERF shit, she could have easily been one of the most potent voices against Trump and all this anti DEI bullshit.

If that brat is a 'kid', then he shouldn't be digging through sensitive national infos.

And if he's an adult, then he's old enough to know better than to be that stupid and should suffer for his intentional stupidity.

Hegseth is gonna turn the military into a white supremacist hell hole. Firing someone just because they’re black or female is way worse than hiring someone for those reasons. These people misunderstand DEI. They aren’t allowing people into positions they aren’t qualified for. DEI just makes sure that qualified females and poc get jobs too. It’s not like in college where some people have the grades but not necessarily the test scores so they get a chance despite the scores.

i do believe the word you're looking for is gestapo.

Yes I do believe that’s it. Although wouldn’t the FBI be the Gestapo and the military the Wehrmacht?  No matter, it’s the same thing regardless

don't recall if there's a more appropriate thread to drop this

Rep. Self adjourned a hearing rather than introduce Sarah McBride properly

He and another rep tried using the Trump EO as an excuse to be a complete and total piece of shit. Another Rep I think a female rep from Illinois referred to McBride “as the gentleman from Delaware”

they have no decency and they prove that the cruelty is the point. They don’t have any concern about “people being delusional”

U.S. citizen child recovering from brain cancer deported to Mexico with undocumented parents

Other than lacking “valid immigration status in the U.S.,” the parents have “no criminal history,” Woodward said.

But of course. Every time you think we can't sink to a new low... Badda boom! There ya go. Anyone remember a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away when we still had this magical little thing called compassion?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Yeah, I didn't think so.

There are literally videos from right wing leaders decrying compassion as an obstacle to progressing their interests and viewing empathy as a sin.
