Musk says all federal employees need to explain their work immediately — or be let go

Federal employees received an email Saturday afternoon, and gave them a deadline of Monday night.

All federal government employees will have to share what they’ve been working on in the last week or face dismissal, Elon Musk said Saturday.

Musk posted on X that employees will be receiving an email “shortly” requesting to “understand what they got done last week.” A lack of response, Musk said, “will be taken as a resignation.”

“It is cruel and disrespectful to hundreds of thousands of veterans who are wearing their second uniform in the civil service to be forced to justify their job duties to the this out-of-touch, privileged, unelected billionaire who has never performed one single hour of honest public service in his life,” AFGE National President Everett Kelley said in a statement.

And federal employees across the government reacted with fury about the dictate from Musk. A Department of Justice official, granted anonymity to avoid retribution, noted that the email was labeled as coming from an “external,” server, adding they “cannot legally respond to this” because they handle classified material.

“This email looks exactly like all of the phishing email examples that federal employees see in training over and over again,” a Commerce Department employee, similarly granted anonymity, said. “I’m not responding to it.”

The cruelty is the point. That and just general asshattery. There's around 3 million federal employees, so even if half of folks were to respond, anyone think they're going to bother reading through and checking each of those over a million messages? They just want people to shit their pants and laugh about it before they do what they were always going to do: fire anyone they feel like firing because they simply can and don't think anyone can stop them. Anyway, hope they yuck it up while they can, cuz sooner or later they will piss off enough people that it will come back to bite them somehow eventually. At least that's what I'll keep on trying to believe.

I'd sooner expect it all to be run through some shitty AI to find "wasteful" responses so they can prioritize firing those and  publicly announce saving trillions of dollars in the process.

Will they replace them with Tesla charging stations?  Unless this is Trump’s way of telling Musk he’s wearing the pants in the relationship?

I'm holding fast to the idea that two snot nosed brats can't play well with each other for too long

My understanding is that all the EV companies actually agreed to standardize chargers using Tesla tech.

I'm really hoping all of the responses they get are along those lines, or just nobody responds. That mean the entire federal work force is fired then? Promise Elon? Like to see how the American public would react to that. It wouldn't be Mike Pence they'd be calling out for this time I betcha.

If it wasn't so obvious anyway this letter is just him trolling everyone, it'd be just a complete admission on his part that DOGE isn't capable of evaluating anyone's ability to do their job and that the firings have absolutely nothing to do with anyone's performance; otherwise, they wouldn't be asking everyone to do their job for them and essentially evaluate themselves. I mean what kind of idiot is gonna say, "Oh yeah, I did an awful job and just right fucked everything up last week. You should totally can me." Or "I spent the whole week playing Fortnite and doing some of that fine ass cocaine the White House doc is handing out like candy. You got to try some man. Ha ha."

Basically iirc, every company had it's own plug/tech which made rolling out public-access charging stations impossible. So they all got together a few years back and hashed out a compromise to make Tesla's charging port/tech the EV standard.

Which would make the only silver lining that he'd be shutting down 8,000 Elon musk ports.

Still bullshit. Is his tech the best tech?  His EVs, from my understanding, are now overpriced and overhyped. The things that used to make the Tesla the only viable option (if you wanted an EV as an only car) because of the mileage it gets has been met by or surpassed by the bigger companies at a better price point.

So when does Trump pretend to be an environmentalist and bring back EVs to federal agencies provided that they’re Teslas?

idk if their charging tech was the best, but they had the largest charger footprint so the other car companies decided it was easier to fall back on that rather than build their own charger networks, like imagine if every gas station brand had a different-shaped nozzle.

That makes sense but there can be more than one. We have two types of nozzles for gas. One for regular gas and another for diesel. Sure that makes sense so no one accidentally the wrong gas, but still two different wouldn’t be so bad. This is somehow going to be a win for Musk. And fuck. That. Guy. Right in his douche bag mother fuckin eye.

The only thing that makes this make any sense at all is if Elon's primary goal is to completely dismantle the United States. He can't possibly be stupid enough to think he's doing anything to help the country even a little bit.

I'm also going to have to assume Trump is completely checked out at this point being little more than a vegetable... and viable means for Elon to destroy the whole country.

Army Choir singing a song from “Les Miserable” it’s “Can You Hear the People Sing/One Day More” a constant rebellion song that’s throughout the play. No one seems to get it 🫠

The people in the audience definitely don’t get that they’re the enemy in a sense. You gotta see the play. I recommend watching PBS 25th Anniversary. It’s got all the best of the best of the characters throughout the years.

That chart about midway down the page showing how Americans overestimate the size of minority groups and underestimate the size of most majority ones is just such a sad commentary on how out of touch with reality so many people have become. Sowing fear and paranoia are just way to easy to do in this modern internet age I think. Yeah, it connects us all in ways that were never possible before and gives us access to all sorts of information that without it would have been inaccessible to most folks, but it also exposes everyone to the virus of misinformation that so many just don't have the antiviral software in their heads if you will to protect them from it.

They definitely didn’t get it at all.  It was like Trump walking on stage to the song “fortunate son” having no idea the song was against people like him.

Musk sent a second email to federal workers and this time he said they’ll definitely be terminated if they don’t answer. They absolutely should not answer.

Musk has 2 left feet....I wish there was a better joke than bad dancer I could apply here.

It was a full video on a loop and it was disgusting. >.<

Considering how many holes there are now in the system due to all the very big brains jamming their unencrypted servers into the department computers, I don't know if anyone wants to see the sequel. But there will be a sequel. They keep firing all the people who could actually do the security checks after all.

This does little to clear up the murky waters of "DOGE" however Devin from LE does interview another attorney that is supposedly investigating and filing litigation against the magical department, loose conglomeration of billionaires or whatever you want to call it.
