I fell down the stairs and landed squarely on my chest (sternum). I immediately felt a sharp pain throughout my body and honestly felt my heart absorb some of the impact for a brief second. Since then, I've taken it easy and have been lying flat on my back on the couch occasionally applying a bag of ice to that area, but when I do get up I feel pressure, not pain, but chest pressure and my right arm kind of stings, so I've tried not to pick anything up with it.

Does this sound bad or do you think I avoided any major damage? I'm already dealing with trying to get on the transplant list for my failing liver, and the last thing I need is for a hospital stay to push that back even further. I think I can handle this until it heals up, but I'm worried about internal bleeding or something I can't tell just from physical signs.

Depends. You may have cracked your sternum, or you may have bruised your heart (inevitable if you did indeed crack your sternum), neither of which can be acertained without diagnostic testing - or on autopsy (bruising of the heart can cause myocardial irritability, which can lead to potentially lethal arrhythmias.) Additionally, your clotting profile is probably a freak show right about now, so internal bleeding isn't out of the question.

tl;dr Call somebody in real life; anonymous message boards are a bad place to get medical advice, especially in an emergency.

He was drunk....duh

It was either that or he stroked out.

At this point, it's kind of race to see what gets him first.

I have jumper cables. Don't tempt me.

Serious question:  you ever shock your own tits?  I mean, I tried a couple of 9-volts once, but it didn't really do anything for me.  Probably because I'm fat.

No. To be quite honest, I never really saw the appeal.

Eh, to each their own I suppose.

Zeni might need to do it if this tingly thing in his arm happens again.

I know you guys are on the fence with the "is he dying" thing....but I have a hard time feigning concern when someone makes a serious OP and then just leaves.

If it was a shit post, cool....but this seemed to be a health inquiry, and unless he dropped dead on the spot, I just assume this is bullshit

Meh, I look at it as a chance to review liver pathology. It's a good workout for my questionable brain. And now I get thoracic trauma as well...I probably owe Zeni a debt of gratitude for helping me to stave off dementia for another day.

"What's that? I feel something happening down there. It feels like I have to pee but I don't have to pee."

"Whoops." (Falls down two stairs. Better log onto UEMB and ask if I'm the fuck alright).

I'm not feigning concern this going to end up as a a really depressing YouTube video that makes me think I'm dying.

Ugh this is not good. I feel a little better about moving, but the pain is still there and now I feel it when I cough. I think I'm in serious trouble, but I don't want to go through another hospital stay. I've been hooked up to enough IVs over the past five months, I can't take another stay. I'm so mad at myself for falling like that. Damnit...

Unless I get hospital pics, I'm not buying this one.

I mean, he live with his mother...still...so obviously she's the type to stay up his ass since he's up hers, and a mother of that type definitely would have rushed her organ donation waiting son to a hospital after he fell down some fucking stairs.

I can't buy this one...too cheaply made

Cool. Nothing like a ruptured spleen and disordered clotting... except that if you'd ruptured it, you'd have been dead last night. Maybe it's a splenic hematoma. And maybe it's just trauma review time again.

Chests?  How many do you have?

Typo haha

This is the worst. I was doing so well, feeling perfectly healthy and ready for that transplant in April or May, and then the fall happened and now I'm couch ridden in a world of pain, all because of one dumb mistake. Ugh... Why?
