This isn't weird enough yet?  lol

I was gonna say

the fact that this is a remake of an Old giant robot show, but is aiming to mimick it's unpopular unsuccessful American remake rather than it's source is already in perfect flavor with Trigger's weirdness

Its American remake was actually fairly popular in its day.  They just stopped because they ran out of toku footage.

Also the main villain is deliberately channeling Tim Curry from that dub.

The director told the actor to specificly mimick Tim Curry. They did their homework.

First episode was super simple and tropey.

A lot of things directly ripping off Evangelion, but for a younger audience it feels like. Like Hasbro selling My First Erection to a focus group of 7 year-olds.

Evangelion took a ton of its cues from Ultraman, which this show is a look at.  Anno is actually directing a movie adaptation of it called Shin Ultraman, similar to Shin Godzilla, because he’s a fan.

Granted the lawsuit has kept Ultra stuff mostly off these shores until a few years back with the manga, Netflix series, and Youtube channel episodes, but Ultraman was on US television in the 60’s and Turner aired Ultraman and Ultraseven on TNT.  It’s not an Evangelion ripoff like the US tends to think...everything is.

Def had that vibe going. Someone mentioned Gainax in this thread. Apparently Trigger is comprised of some former Gainax employees. I'm guessing that might explain it.

Not only is it comprised of some.  It was FOUNDED by former GAINAX employees. They basically said "so hey um we're gonna take all your best artists away and leave you with C-grade productions. We cool bro?"

Welp, time for another week of answering questions that have likely already been answered and telling my fellow UEMBers that they're stupid for acting like parodies of themselves.

Or not. Mochi and Elfie have suffered enough of my complaints, it's best not to dogpile right now.

Being produced by former GAINAX staff helps.

Oh hey there's  a girl with a face mask before everyone had to wear a face mask and it was only seen as a Japanese fashion thing.

Her name is Hass and she's my favorite, even though I know next to nothing about her.

It also had lettuce on it.  I remember a hot dog Kubo drew had lettuce too.

I remember that one phase in my life where I put lettuce on my hot dogs. I think it was in 2012 either during or after my pre-AO rewatch of Eureka seveN, precisely because the hot dogs they had in one episode had lettuce on them as well. Must be a Japanese thing, like green tea-flavored sweets or pancakes as thick as Rikka's thighs.

Ultra is reffering to Ultraman.....another old giant robot Super Sentai Series....one that 4kids once produced a parody dub of

Dude, you're thinking of Ultimate Muscle. Ultraman had a dub, but that one was done back in the '70s/'80s before 4Kids was even a thing for you to have literally all of the misconceptions about.

You dare disrespect the mighty Tim Curry!?

And that was after Anno and Tsurumaki left with several others to form Khara. But at least then, we had Imaishi, Yoshinari, Amemiya and the others to tide us over until they brought Trigger into being.

No, 4kids actually did do a dub for Ultraman. Tiga, to be exact.
