katt_goddess
If you are fine with the dude's politics too -and- they are using the song with permission from the artist, then go for it. I say the first part tongue-in-cheek because I doubt you'd say anything if the guy himself sucked total ass and the last because there have been a few campaigns in recent years that have used songs to rally their base without consulting the artist first and gotten chewed for it. jezebelthenun
I honestly don't know a lot about him. He's pretty far left leaning, like Sander's camp left. I'm probably a bit more centrist than that. I'm not necessarily against anything he's doing, but I'm also in CA, so my vote doesn't really count.

I immediately thought of march of the pigs too It makes sense for something from Ghosts to be used since Reznor released Ghosts with no copyright so anyone can do anything they want w/it. No sample clearance or attributions necessary. It's really not such an obscure track. The main rhythm in Old Town Road by Lil Nas X is 34 Ghosts IV. And it was also one of the tracks in Ken Burns' Vietnam documentary that was scored entirely by Reznor. Really I feel like it's a way to sorta use Old Town Road without having to pay for it Edited August 14, 2020 by Poof

It was bugging the crap out of me that I couldn't place where I had heard that particular sequence before before because it wasn't from any direct NiN stuff. I've been on a Bardcore / Bongo Cat kick lately for the silliness. Old Town Road has been in both.
scoobdog
You know, I've had 34 Ghosts IV on my phone for like a decade (from my lil bro) and I've never listened to it, or to Old Town Road.

You can hear the influence of Skinny Puppy, which is clearly not loved by all. Personally, everything about NIN makes me happy, and I've been in love with Reznor since my early teens. I find a lot of beauty in the noise, and in the ambience, and in his voice. I like his poetry. His choice of words bring up emotion and paint pictures for me. Reminds me of Paul Simon. Pretty words, storyteller. Then there's Reznor's soundtrack work. I love his ability to evoke emotion and carry a movie with music. He's in my top 3. 1

There's a ton of different groups out there that do it.

Chapinator_X
I was half-expecting that it was going to be NiN’s “Closer” and that it involved a candidate going the Joe Exotic route of making a campaign ad that outlines their personal life and personal grudges in a field or ranch.
