uncut gems is really good

I finally watched it. So good. I love movies where the dialogue has people talking over each other like real life.

Not going to lie tho.. watching it with my parents was awkward at times considering Sandler has a very explicit scene where he's sexting his sugar baby in nyc (they know I dated the rich guy in nyc) and then later she goes and does blow with The Weeknd (they know about rapper)

It doesn't help that I picked it out for us to watch either. I swear I didn't know about any of that beforehand tho

It was OK.

The constant bickering in scenes and following along was excessive.

Plus, KG would never get involved with that shit.

Some people cultivate that kind of atmosphere around themselves. His shop felt like the pizza place I used to work at. Plus lots of ppl are pissed at him bc of how he conducts himself. He's pushing the envelope w/everyone's patience and making promises when he doesn't have control of the outcomes.

Nah, I get what they were going for... and frankly, I was glad how it ended ...

I saw Scorsese in the credits, so I knew.

I’ve been meaning to watch it since the directors’ last film Good Time was great.

Well I thought it was good. I say go for it. I'll probably check that one out. This director intrigues me

I loved the ending as well. I saw it coming too. It would've been less plausible for it to go the other way

I didn't really like it that much. It didn't drag on, which I appreciated, but I kinda already knew what to expect from a Scorsese film. It hit all the right notes and beats, but didn't add anything new.
I don't mind real-life imitation scenes where people bicker and talk over each other......but constantly? That was annoying as fuck. It's the dialogue version of a modern action movie: Asses get kicked, but who's? Do you know? NOPE. It's 75 edits for a single takedown.
Sandler really tried, so I don't blame him.

not really. it was a crappy movie. there is hardly a story, a random ass ending, and no character development.

I'm not here to defend the movie. Haven't seen it, myself. But you sound like clickbait when you talk about things like this.

Sometimes a movie over two hours flies on by like it's an hour and a half.

This was one of them.

Second favorite performance from Sandler (I'm very biased toward Punch-Drunk Love).

I guess I don't really see it. A lot of what I said did happen. People in the theater were laughing at sad scenes. I did talk to the people who were sitting next to me when the movie ended about how bad it was. I guess I can see where I do say the word "bad" quite a bit but that'd really be I could see where you might be coming from on that front.

In your own thread you made you said you walked out of the movie. And your main talking point in said thread was other people laughed and said it was bad. Sounds like you adopted that viewpoint, at least in your posts. And your only real arguments thus far have been "crappy movie; no story; random ending; no character development." That's all fair but I can't help but think you made that initial thread and your replies in here because so many people have praised the movie and you wanted to let people know you didn't like it. It's cool to not enjoy something, and it's fine if you can't quite articulate it, much like enjoying a certain meal and not knowing exactly why it was so good. Just, as far as the way you present things, it feels like you want to exaggerate and nothing else.

We hear this kinda stuff all the time, though, so it's not on you. Tons of people like to throw out "best" or "worst" when talking about something cause it gets a reaction, regardless of if it's true or not.

Ah ok, I see where you're seeing that. To clarify, when I said I walked out of the movie, I meant that I walked out after the movie had ended meaning like "I walked out of the movie really thinking blah blah blah". Not in the sense of "holy shit I walked out in the middle of the movie it was so bad". I can accept that as me not clarifying what I meant very well, so fair enough. The initial thread and the remark here wasn't made to be contrarian as I really did go into that movie expecting it to be good. Many of the comments made online about it usually either love it or hate it.

The only thing I know about the movie is apparently Adam Sandler was upset cause it either didn't get nominated for anything, or he didn't win any awards for it.

He won an independent spirit award for best male lead.
Then again, he's probably talking solely about the Academy.

maybe, I honestly don't keep up with news involving celebrities or what not.

I only looked into it because I finished it and thought, "Did he get any sort of extra recognition for this role?"

who knows, maybe this will push Sandler more so towards serious roles, considering as far as comedy goes the dude's a has been.

And he's done well in the few serious roles he's had.
Punch-Drunk Love is one of my favorite films.
Admittedly, it is funny, but not in his usual way,
and his acting is A+

The whole movie was character development, and like I was saying to sawdy, the ending wasn't random at all.

Spoiler

my biological grandfather got killed over gambling debts in quite a similar fashion. He even had the money too and was about to pay the people, so I guess I found the story compelling. The ending wasn't random bc he was pushing all the people around him to the limit of their patience. Pissing off dangerous criminals over large sums of money. The guy was already done caring about sandler's life. You don't hang someone out a window like that unless you're ready to kill them. Then he immediately locked those same ppl in that tiny doorway where they were sweating their asses off for the whole basketball game while yelling at them acting like he's the shit and completely ignoring their concern that he once again bet all their money on the game.
