You know what form of transit is underrated? The train.

This may sound weird but, I've always wanted to ride on a train

There's no hidden meaning to that, the only ones around here are cargo trains and I always thought it be cool to take a train somewhere

I recall two train rides I've been on.  One was essentially a tourist attraction and they even stopped the train for a wild west style "stage" show where there was a gang of bad guys who rode on the train to rob it and then a sheriff's posse who proceeded to arrest them.

The other one was just a plain old train ride.  I had to poop but wound up holding it because the bottom of the toilet just opened up to the tracks passing beneath us.

I would hope that Amtrak doesnt let you poop directly on the tracks XD

These were both 1800s style trains.  Both of them very touristy, one very much more than the other.

I was thinking about taking a train back to Chicago to see that museum I wanted to go to. I think its twice as long by train than car but atleast theres no awkward pooping in truck stops

Part of me is curious. But the practical side of me says I don't have the time to spend on taking a train somewhere.

It costs the same to take the Amtrak from here to Atlanta as it does to fly out. The difference is it takes over 50 fricking hours to get to Atlanta from here by train whereas I can be there by plane in a few hours including layover.

And in the all important pooping front, I won't poop on a plane either. :D I don't want the DNA from a Death-by-Frozen-Poopsicle case leading back to my inability to plan ahead and go before I go. :D:D:D

The Field Museum. I wanna take the miniature to see Sue.

Sue's been moved to a balcony overlooking where it was - I'm not sure if they've completed the move.  They've got a Patagonian Mayorum named Maximo that they're putting in place of where Sue was.  It's supposed to be the largest dinosaur ever.

You want to know what hell is, take an Amtrak train from Arizona to Arkansas, sit in coach, 48 hour trip. You shave 4 hours off that and you have a very close approximation of the lowest circle of hell.

Where did they go through when you got to my neck of the woods?

Eh, I wouldn't call it underrarted...It's pretty much rated right where it should be....A pretty niche thing that might save you a buck or 2 if your willing to tolerate the longer path anf some cramped quarters.....But that's the up side....It has quarters.  I would love to have a little room on a plane.

That line goes south through Texas to San Antonio then back up to Chicago. Amtrak probably has routes south of you. They list them on their website. I just looked. Your closest hop on point is Oklahoma city. From there it heads to Fort Worth. Fort Worth is a pretty huge hub so you can ride just about any where you want from there.

I’ve ridden them before. They are nice and quaint, but they take too damn long. All this modern technology, and we can’t get a magnetic/bullet trains or this bitch? Nah. Fuck that.

Also, tickets may be cheap, depending on where you’re going, but it’s not worth it, in my opinion. I’d rather ride the bus, because I can usually get there faster. Or, simply drive/fly it.

I took a train from Charleston (WV) to Columbus, Ohio when I was a kid for a school field trip. I remember the ride being a drag. I looked it up, and by Amtrack, it takes 4 and a half hours.

The trip would have been much faster by car or bus. That's an important thing to note. A lot of trains go at slower speeds and through routes that make the trip to the destination much longer than they need to be. This is why train travel is underrated.

Ridin' the dog.  Did it once - roughly the earthbound equivalent of Southwest.

Nah....there is some sketch going on.

Most of the time, I've had no issues.
