.........Is it a "black" thing to eat chocolate cake on Thanksgiving? Us white people eat pumpkin pie.

Yes....it's tradition....the cake is chocolate on the outside AND the inside, reminding us of Africa

We sing the songs of our tribes afterward

Lol, girl same. Except for our company Christmas party. “We’re so excited to see you and your guest!” Umm...

Work parties are one thing I don't have to worry about. The last Xmas party they threw, it was at a casino and some people lost their fucking minds with the free alcohol and got shitfaced then tried to have sex in the middle of the casino floor. Some rooms got trashed .... it was ... not a good luck for corporate

>.>

We're never having an offsite Xmas party ever again.

This is for people with normal families. My family holidays are brutal for the inexperienced.

It'll start like .... oh you seem like a nice young man ... then they wait until you're good and comfortable on maybe your 4th fork full of mac & cheese and then they sense your weakness and go for your throat

I made a long ass post, but instead I'll just say it's awkward when you live in the town with all your ex wife's family, and they still invite you to holiday dinners and you fuck around and bring your new girl with you because she doesn't have family here either.  Then your ex brings her new dude and it's kinda like a really passive aggressive display of the baes.

I think since that debacle, the kid's mother and I have created an unspoken rule that we don't invite boos to family holiday functions.....If you boo'd up, just catch them later, but none of that shit on common ground.

Really thinking about skipping it this year. I always work the day of and then really early the day after so I'm not really in the mood for all the sweater vest pettiness.

I don't think this mythical "normal" family holiday gathering exists.....everybody's ready, coping mechanisms engaged and bland sport and/or weather conversational topics ready....

Heck, if you go to some other families house, they don't even have the ammo to do any real damage....they don't know nothin'

We had them in my extended family, but I never got to experience them since we lived so far away and had no money for travel. Now they've kinda fizzled out since older family members died and there really isn't anyone else to take the reins.

I dread even thinking about bringing a date to a family holiday gathering because they'll get a CIA style interrogation because of how long it's been since I dated.

There's the apple and sweet potato pie too...

Honestly I'm not a big fan of either if there isn't SOMETHING to help the thing out, like whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Banana Cream or French Silk.  Maybe Pumpkin Custard.  Definitely some Kolacky from my Mom. I remember T-days as a kid where there was Mince or Rhubarb, I was afraid that growing old meant you had no taste buds.

Ooo banana cream or rhubarb.  You can't buy rhubarb at Stop&Shop xD

I made rhubarb pie once because I found it growing in my backyard, the plant, not the pie.  First and only time I've ever had it.

You know what?  Turns out most people don't...which is why I've unhappily eaten so much apple pie in my life.

I'll most likely be eating yet again this year.

Well clearly it's still served for some reason(s).

And those two reasons are Distorted and Doom. 😶

And me. (By the way, both sides of my family tree looooove pumpkin pie by itself, just like I do.) (Oh, and don't forget to make pecan pie. That's a southern, nay, a Texas Thanksgiving tradition.)

I've only had pecan twice in my life...it'd be nice to try it when made by people who know what they're doing.
