And another person I used to see on a frequent basis bites the dust.

You're a piece of shit if you use heroin. I have no sympathy for you, just your family.

Girlfriend had her tonsils out a few years back, gave her a prescription for like 4 days of pain meds.

When they were gone she had withdrawal symptoms.

Shits nasty yall.

One of the few good things about my fucked up body is that I rarely suffer withdrawal symptoms(I've been through a shit load of scripts and had to stop cold turkey countless amount of times) except for anti-depressants(never fucking again). I didn't really appreciate that until talking to other people with pain conditions and hearing their stories about becoming addicted to painkillers.

Oh and fuck y'all for cursing my eyes with that pic.

Considering I had I had a group of friends die from OD via related drugs, while yes I can sit here and say they were assholes for it... I won't stand by your statement. Pretty ignorant to speak it like that, honestly.

Heroin is cheaper and easier to get than the prescription painkillers your doctors get you addicted to. Mix that with them being more potent and you're gonna choose heroin pretty fast.
With it being unregulated and cut with shit like fentanyl you're also going to have ODs. There's also the factor that even seeking treatment is discouraged because of the prison industrial complex.
Also mental illness puts you at risk for drug use and we have piss poor mental healthcare.

So the addicts aren't really to blame here. The government, both with the justice system and drug policy, and the pharmaceutical industry are the problems here. Also bad doctors.

Most people get addicted to heroin because they are already chemically dependent on opioids they can no longer get.

Blame the pharma industry, not the people.

Now I’m not denying there are problem with the pharmaceutical industry...but I cannot stress to you how little perscribers know about drugs. Doctors are doctors not druggists. They have 1 maybe 2 classes on drugs at best and they the go off and do other shit.

Ive had doctors knowingly prescribe something a patient was allergic to

ive had a 45 minute long discussion with a doctor as to what Crestor was when HE prescribed it.

ive had schedule II medication perscriptions come in with refills (which is against the law) and when I call them they legit don’t know.

and for the most part when you come in as a patient with symptoms they see every day it’s just easy for them to throw an antibiotic at you and walk away...anything more complicated than that they are guessing. They really don’t know what will make you better. That’s why there are so many different fucking formulations of the same shit.

what pisses me off the most is the finger that points to big pharma...because when it comes to laws, pharmacies abide. When we see abuse we report it. When someone is doctor shopping we report it. There are so few things we can actually do at pharmacy level. But if a prescription come in, and it’s legit, and enough time by law has passed from the previous script. There is nothing we can do. It comes down to the one who has the triplicate script pad, the DEA number, and the pen....and the lack of doctor accountability

I wonder how bad this epidemic would be if we actually had real education on drugs, good drug policy, good treatment programs, etc.

Even with the people who would still use, I wonder how many would die if the product was actually regulated instead of cut with fentanyl or god knows what else

I'm just trying to piece together why I'm supposed to be mad at the addicts here instead of the dealers doing such a thing or our country's bad job at educating people and having good drug policy

Why isn't OP mad at drug dealers or the US government?

You’re right...we get drugs but we don’t have the authority to just hand them out as we see fit...

we cant wright you a script

the doctor does that...and we have to provide proof that it’s legitimate....we dispense these drugs at doctor request...and if the doctor isn’t monitoring the patient that’s wrong

I'm talking about doctors or pharmacists, I'm talking about the manufacturers that pushed things like Oxy and Percocet for decades and claimed they were non addictive. Essentially big pharma.

Lol.

Oh, the sick people are pieces of shit?

Not the Chinese and Mexican drug pushers spiking heroin with deadly fentanyl in an asymmetrical assault on Americans, huh.

Diversion was not the main reason for the opioid crisis.

There was a massive criminal element operating within the pharmacuetical manufacturing sector stealing literally thousands of cases of these medications and flooding the streets with them.

I don't doubt that either. It's the same reason Heroin and Meth spread. Our government loves to do that stuff.

Like I said, I don’t despute problems with big pharma....but there are more factors at work
