fuggnificent
they used to disgust me but at this last job my supervisor was so big she just couldn't walk without tremendous pain. theyd have these company wide meetings at auditoriums ever so often and id listen to her call her doctors several times for notes because she couldnt make it from her car to a seat in the theatre. other things would be difficult too. like shed plan vacations and not be able to take tours or visit places because she cant walk. now back to walmart imagine the emotional turmoil it takes that kind of person to go out in public...specifically walmart. they must wait until they have no choice but to go. then imagine how devastating itd be to finally make ut there only to find theres no scooters or the scooters arent charged? anyway...its not so disgusting or funny to me anymore

fuggnificent
Imagine the emotional turmoil that it takes to keep justifying not addressing the underlying problem. it might be really hard just to lose the weight when it hurts too much to exercise. and dieting may not be the answer. Like for me i cant diet because im on meds that require i eat and the meds cause weight gain.

Sieg67
You don't need pills to diet. You just need to watch your calorie intake. With exceptions, you know a people get this way because they can't stop shoving junk food in their face. I work retail. I see what people buy. People need to take care of their own body and they need to address the issue before it gets completely out of hand. Diet, exercise. A bit of effort can prevent you from being on of these people who can't move under their own weight. People need to be responsible for their own body and make better decisions. Yeah, a lot of the time it's all about the above. I'm not going to say that fugg's friend isn't one of the very rare few that actually have a medical issue causing stuff but I've seen too many people cruising around in their motorized barca loungers sucking away on pop and sweating burger grease. mthor
There is no disease in the world that does not respond to calories in/calories out. Even Prader-Willi syndrome patients can lose weight if food is not made available to them. And as far as meds - they may increase your appetite or mess with your satiety triggers or slow your metabolism, but your body cannot make fat from food that isn't eaten. Codename: Jackass
Don't try to explain the science of weight loss, it's a magical concept and only lucky people are blessed with skinny genes. DragonSinger
Losing a lot of weight has probably been one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences of my life. It's why I ain't gonna run my mouth about anyone else needing to lose weight for a long ass time. Yes, my fucked up nervous system is why I got to feel my organs shifting and spine re-aligning at levels that left me sobbing in bed until I fell asleep, but even without a chronic pain condition, I know that it can still be painful for many people. Money, health, time, and access to environments where you can exercise safely without harming yourself are also big factors ignored by those who just want to be judgmental every time they see someone overweight. Azalar Hex
Food is an addiction. Even moreso if you are depressed. Throw on another layer of impossibility if you spend all your spare time alone because you don't have friends because you are a downer to be around because you are depressed because you are alone. I'm not saying it isn't a problem a person can solve by themselves, I'm just saying it's not like waking up one day and saying, "Alright. I think it's time to stop being a fatty" for most folks. No easier than just tossing your cigarettes out the window and saying, "Alright. I think it's time to stop killing myself".

That was pretty much me in my teens and 20s. However, I didn't get morbidly obese because I don't eat when I'm depressed; quite the opposite. When I get real depressed I LOSE my appetite. Like I'll actually want to eat breakfast/lunch/dinner but I won't be able to because I'm not hungry because I'm so depressed.

mthor
Well it does make sense. Fat people gotta be buried too. (except the ones that are cremated, of course) Gotta be careful about burning them. There are cases on record of morbidly obese corpses causing grease fires resulting in fairly significant damage to crematoriums. In her book Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Caitlin Doughty talks about having to cremate morbidly obese people first thing in the morning, before the oven gets too hot, to avoid this. (She has a YouTube channel called Ask a Mortician, but I don't know if she addresses it there.)

Codename: Jackass
Kill fast food and fried foods and there goes the obese issue That is only part of the problem. Kill these: Sedentary lifestyles Candy, soda, suguary drinks, basically anything that has added sugar Misinformation about the process of weight gain and loss Ignorance of how energy is stored in human bodies Ignorance of the importance of following a strict diet plan Overeating in general Calories in/calories out is the key. No magic pill, juice cleanse, fad diet is going to cause long term weight loss, just like eating "bad stuff" a few times a year isn't going to cause long term weight gain. That stuff about slow metabolisms or thyroid problems does exist, but for most average people, reducing caloric intake or burning more calories than you eat over the long run will absolutely cause fat loss. It's an addiction and willpower issue. Sugar and fat are readily available for an insanely cheap price, because food companies know that if they addict the consumer, they have a customer for life. It's in their best interest to keep people fat and stupid.

And people have to realize that it is about the long run - it's not about going on a diet or working out, it's about making maintainable life style changes. People don't realize what a difference water instead of soda and taking just a few extra steps can make. Yeah, you won't have that bikini body in time for summer, but in a few years, your knees will send you flowers.

scoobdog
Look at fuggs, growing a conscience. The thing about obesity is that it's directly related to eating the wrong kind of food and eating at the wrong time. Increased intake of unprocessed foods in conjunction with smaller and more numerous meals make it easier to do things like mild exercise. The scooters are a bane on society.
