you probably have enough quarters of employment to get SSD but when it comes to psychiatric diagnoses it's a bit difficult, from my understanding there has to be two of them

I have 15 years of employment so im pretty sure i qualify...i know its difficult. I have people in the family who actually  process the claims to help me out.

cool, take all the help you can get, my dad used to work for the SSA before he retired, also in claims, but rules change, and yeah 15 years is def enough time plus it's more money than SSI cuz it's based off the money you put into or earned, something like that

Wow u r so fucking stupid. Its not paid by tax payers dumb dumb

Funding for Supplemental Security comes from the federal income tax and other federal revenues. The Social Security Administration administers both of these programs. State agencies, usually called disability determination services, make the initial determination of whether applicants meet the disability standard

It actually depends on how ill you are - some people with bipolar disorder are highly functional - I mean, I've been in nursing for  - well, never mind how long, just a long damn time, and the vast majority of the time, being bipolar hasn't prevented me from working. However, I did go through a period of about 5 years where, between the mood swings and the anxiety and the persistent depression, I was unable to work, and I've taken care of patients who've had more disabling and longer lasting symptoms.
