It’s the title

I got dental insurance recently and really need to go have my teeth cleaned. It has been a while, and I have some deep stains behind my teeth from drinking coffee and smoking. I have extra bones in my mouth though, and plastic bits on the X-ray things always hurt so bad.

I’ll probably abandon it immediately so I don’t really care.

But I’ve only ever written academic formal writing or sad scribble poetry that I never share. I’ve started writing a little short story that popped into my head. It’s slightly inspired by my own upbringing, but I want to write something in the southern women writer’s tradition like Flannery O’Connor or Eudora Welty while creating a snapshot of a family dynamic like Louise Erdrich did in Love Medicine. Something reminiscent of grit lit but sweet and nostalgic. Anyway, I might never finish it, so here’s what I’ve got.

It’s about weed.

I have a cedar chest that I need to refinish. It got soaked in rat piss in an abandoned house.

Lol. I’m not entirely opposed to it. They’re both sweet kids as far as kids go. I just don’t really know how to interact with them. I’m like a person petting a dog for the first time.

I never really cared much about it either, but I figure if I can cut the addictive chemical out, I’m only left with a meaningless habit. Seems like less of a burden.

I’m mad that my husband went to see Manchester Orchestra, which I don’t care about, and the opening act was -SURPRISE- an unannounced solo act from the singer of one of my favorite bands. 😡

we’ll have them from tomorrow evening until Saturday evening, I reckon. Thanks for all the ideas! I need to get some sodas for them. Something without caffeine. 😅 we have lots of games and stuff, including that new Mario maker game, so that should eat up a lot of this.

I found it pretty easy to lower my nicotine intake with vaping. I started at 6mg and have weaned myself down to 0 now. I haven’t even noticed it.

I think we’re going to hook up the projector on the screen porch, let them pick a movie to watch, and order a pizza.

Husboy and I are watching his (our?) two nephews tomorrow. I’ve never been around kids very much, so I don’t really know what to expect. I never stayed with my aunts and uncles when I was growing up unless I was staying with a cousin. I never really got birthday gifts or anything from them. Like, I knew they were family and that they loved me, but I didn’t expect shit from them, even the one that was my neighbor for most of my childhood. Husboy’s family makes it a point to all spend time together and take the kids for bonding activities and shit, so it’s that time. It’s all weird to me. They’re like 7 and 10 and idk what the fuck to do with them. Were you close with your aunts and uncles? Are you close with nieces and nephews? How do I entertain these babies?

They will likely change their name in marriage, so it doesn’t count.
