A subtext to Tolkien's highly symbolic fantasy is, in fact, a fictional alternate mythology to the United Kingdom. Without bothering with the obvious clickbait YT in the OP, it's worth noting that there is a fundamental disconnect between Buddhist philosophic traditions and Judeo/Christian philosophic traditions. The former places greater importance on the environment than the latter, and that difference tends to be more apparent if you attempt to place something like Rings beside any of Miyazaki's morality tales. In Rings, Middle Earth is subject to the battle between good and evil, an almost literal representation of the Garden of Eden. The creatures that inhabit Middle Earth are poisoned by evil just like their environment, but that poisoning tends to be a permanent and destructive gift from heigher powers. In Miyazaki's world, the environment is weakened by the toxic presence of humans but does not lose its core identity through the wounds it receives. The key difference is who the evil presence is. For Tolkien, it's the unseen and unspoken embodiment of evil, Satan. For Miyazaki, it's explicitly humans.

Not to be judgemental, but that sounds suspiciously like a negligent cat parent. We've ended up adopting cats from neighbors who simply couldn't care for them anymore. Of course, if you put food out in a neighborhood with stray cats, it'll only be a matter of time before you've adopted yourself a new friend, but you don;t have to the a cat whisperer for that to happen.

In all seriousness, I have seven feline housemates: an all time low, believe it or not. Some are super friendly, some aren't. In general, any cat I see while I'm out and about won't approach me and I won't approach them simply because they don't particularly need my intervention.
