  1. So, grant programs are fairly broad, and they almost never cover exactly what you want. Using this as a starting tool, you get an idea of just how many different programs are out there… and how ridiculously specific they are. They’re usually disbursed by the federal government to local advocacy organizations who then, in turn, disburse them. Occasionally, large charities disburse their own grants, but they’re almost always for research or conservation purposes. Local utilities also can offer grants for efficiency upgrades (installing drip irrigation, upgrading your service infrastructure) but those are rare and ultra specific. Without knowing specifics, it’s probably a good idea to first see if your local jurisdiction still has a redevelopment agency. This is an example. They’re often the villain that swoops in and buys properties from little old ladies to build strip malls, but they can also be a good resource for small businesses in districts that are being revitalized like a historic downtown.
  2. Grant requests do not need to be written in legalese. They’re not legally binding documents, so doing that might cause the organization to pass on the grant request. You just need to be concise and thorough.
  3. I'll keep looking. It might be on old media somewhere since that was in the archaic age of floppy disks and that beastly Jazz drive I can't seem to get to work. The thing, though, is that there isn't anything magical to it other than following the directions of grant provider. It's literally explaining in detail exactly what is requested, with the detail being as much embellishment as you can muster without looking like you're embellishing. (Like Gemini said, that's something that's easily adjusted through peer review.) That's why finding the grant provider is what's really important. Let me see if I can poke around for some grant ideas.
  4. Yikes. I took a class in technical writing a really long time ago, and one of the class assignments was writing a grant proposal. I can look around to see if it's survived the numerous computer changes over the years. But, it seems you have a more pressing issue in finding someone who offers a grant for your specific needs. Have you checked with the local Chamber of Commerce? They're usually fairly useless, but it's a place to start.
  5. We’ve been below average this month. It’s still early, but we’re hoping the El Niño brings a second wet winter. Chances are it’ll be warm in Chicago when I visit in October.
  6. Not too many. I did get one or two archived though.
  7. Refilling a plastic lighter with a shitty strike wheel seems like a lot of work for little reward as well.
  8. You need to drink more water.
  9. I’m with Disco on this. The raw poll numbers don’t properly convey the local dynamics, which tend to be far less flexible than demographic trends. There’s a reason why things like racism and bigotry can infiltrate younger and educated city dwellers.
  10. It’s a Friday night….. Can I have a two fingers of your finest rye, neat, please?
  11. This thread needs a sales meme.
  12. My point was more that Trump’s calculus ultimately won’t change regardless of an indictment. He’s still going to win rural Georgia because DeSantis has all the personality of a watery turd, and still lose in the cities. His racist dog whistling will continue to call the human dregs with the same efficacy as when he started, but he’s not going to magically win over support from people that weren’t impressed with it before.
  13. I totally believe they would, just not Trump.
  14. That’s cold, man.
  15. When she was in California, I followed her on FB for a bit and I wondered what it would be like to meet her in person. Ironically, I have work in that area now, long after she left the state, but I would imagine rescues would be something we could have talked over. That and how racism affects those around us. She was always a better person than the rest of us.
  16. So a quick Pro tip: You should not need to pay anything to produce this meme, including signing up for a subscription account. Apparently, some of the meme generator sites do have that option and use it to unlock some features, though I didn't really check too much into it. The go-to option that is simple and relatively easy for anyone is Microsoft Paint. Obviously, this isn't something you can do easily with a phone, but, it isn't completely impossible; preferably, you'll want to use a desktop compute. As long as you have access to the internet, there are online versions like this one, that will do what you need it to do.
  17. You know… those denture cleaning tablets make your retainer taste like old people.
  18. That was so sudden.
  19. It shouldn’t be any different than a comedian asking someone if it’s ok to make a joke about them. It’s always nice if everyone is in on the fun, but you don’t generally ask people that.
  20. Does anyone have questions? Ask them here and I’ll help as best I can.
  21. Or at least until the retainer gets disgusting and you say "fuck it."
  22. On a side note, I didn't realize there was a difference between Mexican chorizo and Spanish and Portuguese chorizo until I was watching Andrew Zimmern's Delicious Destinations. European chorizo is an actual formed sausage (with a casing) unlike the stuff we're used to.
