Got it when I first started working on the clock as a "stockman" in a store. Some woman asked to use the dressing room and the clerk let her in even though she didn't seem to have any clothes to try on. She puked all over the place (a version of Hong Kong was going around). Naturally I get called, took one look & emptied a large can of Lysol in the enclosed space & tried to cover my face as best I could. A few days later, I came home from school & was really hungry, so I made and downed 2 foot long sandwiches, then preceded to fall asleep. I woke up, threw up & passed out. We ended up having to throw out the mattress. Every time I moved in bed, I had to make a mad dash to the can. I was down for around a week.

Which the author stated was a coincidence and would have been changed if they'd spotted it sooner. HAL wasn't the original name for the computer either.

While IBM provided tech assistance, in the story is that HAL 9000 was created at the University of Illinois.
