I thought we had to find a volcano.

I got my kids out of high school. I'm dealing with the grandkids, because dad is working from home and mom is an essential retail person. It's harder than dealing with my kids; somehow, the wrath of Grandma is not as effective a threat as the wrath of Mom or Dad.

Aldi's, week before last.

Made sourdough starter Monday, first loaf today. Kind of dense, not fermented enough yet, but it's promising. (I started making bread instead of buying it last week.) The school sent home a suggested schedule for the kids. I'm failing miserably, and Dexter and DeeDee will probably have to repeat their respective grades thanks to me.

It's possible. Some people just have mild symptoms (mild being a relative term, of course), and some are infected but remain asymptomatic. However, it could have also been the flu or a flu-like viral syndrome; the presentation in less severe cases sounds similar.

One of mine does, too, but she'll be 21 in May, so I try to cut her some slack.

I may or may not be going back. NYS is canvassing retired health care workers to see who's willing to go back to work if the situation gets worse. Might as well go out and find covid as wait for it to come find me.

How do you qualify for the Monopoly World Championship?

It's not just the sizing, it's the whole package, topped off by the off-kilter wall decor. He needs to be mugged by the guys from Queer Eye. -

Pong. -
There was a novel called The Wreck of the Titan, or, Futility, published 14 years before the Titanic actually sank, that was eerily predictive of that disaster. World War Z was published in 2006, and in the book, the plague started in China...

Well, school is closed next week. Maybe the week after. After that, who knows? Fortunately, the liquor store is a 5 minute walk away.

UEMB Writing Competition Volume II Results and Discussion!

@PokeNirvash I didn't mean be quite so harsh - Like I said, I really enjoyed the initial description of the alley, and with the scene lighting the cigarette, I was settled down for a little bit of something hard boiled and Mickey Spillane-ish, so it may have been more that my expectations for the characters didn't allow for what you were trying to say. If so, I apologize. But I still think that Ash was going to kill himself, if not with the scarab, then some other way, and within the not-too-distant future. As for the Scotch/Scottish thing, well, I may have started life with a Slavic surname full of awkward consonants and minimal vowels, but I married a man whose grandfather was from Glasgow. The distinction was made early in our relationship, and, had we had a pre-nup, I'm sure that observing it would have been one of the terms. It's just one of those knee-jerk things - I mean, the in-laws haven't made me wear the shock collar in years... -
UEMB Writing Competition Volume II Results and Discussion!

Yes, it did, but not in the way you think - I had a flash of this guy showing up at the ER post-incident, puking all over the place and lying about why, demanding instant relief and sympathy. In fact, if the story had been set 25 or 30 years ago, I'd have sworn that he'd been one of my patients. -
Do you clean with your bare hands? Do you actually have contact with the traveling public? I'm willing to bet that you're in more danger going to Walmart than you are going to work at the moment.
-
Ghostie, at this moment, you're in more danger of dying from plain old seasonal flu, and that's not a joke, it's a fact. So take the standard precautions - get a flu shot, practice good handwashing, avoid crowded venues like malls or clubs whenever possible, and tell people who are sick to stay the fuck away and not touch your stuff.
