they really need to stop premiering shows in december
Blatch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Jason has said time and time again that the only people who should ever worry about ratings are the people who program TV shows. The Toonami crew will do whatever it takes to keep the shows on the air, so in that regard, there's nothing you need to do. And Tuner has said that they're trying to stick it to the man by not relying on the Nielsen system anymore, so that particular point isn't very accurate. All you need to do is watch the shows and enjoy them, and nothing else. Is that hard to understand? -

Okay, now you're clearly just using this thread as an excuse to bitch. I'm not sure if anyone cares as much about the Nielsen system ruining everything as much as you. If I had my way, all talk even remotely relating to ratings would be banned, as well as most forms of speculation. -
More of Re:Zero's dub is coming in February, at least on Blu-ray. It's been finished for a while, but was delayed due to problems with the first set regarding bad picture quality. I don't know why they're waiting to post a dub that's been finished for months, but whatever. Few people care about it anymore.

If you'd like, you can seek out a community for just about any show, regardless of if it's airing new episodes. Just look at all the seasonal anime going on; if you like what you see on Toonami, you can try some of those shows out and talk with either us or anyone else on Twitter and otherwise about it. -
Very cool. I don't know why they keep putting non-R&M originals early on Saturdays, as pretty much every attempt to do so has ended in them being taken off after a few weeks. Remember when they tried Aqua Teen reruns at 8:30? It's nice that they're keeping Kai on Saturdays while only taking the usual holiday break. DeMarco said that and Jack would be back soon, and he damn meant it. Speaking of which, [as] is doing a weekday strip of SJ on weekdays at 8:00 starting on New Year's Eve. This and an extra half-hour of [as] originals effectively replaces the double Super block from a few months ago, while Rick and Morty moves to 11:30. The new midnight schedule will now be a half-hour of Robot Chicken followed by Aqua Teen and Squidbillies, which is nicely nostalgic to when I first started watching the network.

Well, I see it as different strokes for different folks. If you're in a more rural area, there probably isn't a lot to do, but you can go to places like the nearest bar, and maybe whatever recreation center (like a bowling alley) is nearest to you. What trips me up about this is the sheer amount of entertainment options available nowadays. You have so much anime to watch in places like Crunchyroll, HIDIVE, wherever Funimation is doing business right now, and even the more "traditional" places like Netflix. On top of that, does anyone know that Shonen Jump recently changed their whole business model so that you can read a lot of new manga chapters for free? And it only costs $2 a month to visit their entire archive of past reading material. That's kind of amazing, and nobody has any excuse to not afford it nowadays. Even though I think pretty much everyone with a job can afford CR and stuff (it's only $60 for a whole year paid at once; that's a trip to the grocery store for most people), it makes more sense to be excited for manga you can read any time and in any place instead of this bundle of cartoons delivered in an outdated way. If Toonami is the only way you consume anime, manga, and adjacent Japanese media, even though you have so many options available that are easy to access and pay for, you need to start diversifying. I might even make the jump to reading more manga soon. -
2019 Predictions for Toonami acquisitions in 2019
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Probably nothing I want to watch. For a serious answer, we'll probably get all the sequels to hot shows people are expecting, like the next batch of AoT episodes, Mob Psycho S2, and more Lupin. But I really can't predict anything else while we're in a age when Toonami misses out on most things unique. It'll probably take until the Crunchyroll partnership strengthens to see any changes. Speaking of that, I think there's a chance Children of Ether comes back as a CR original on Toonami. It would be the latter's consolation prize of a LeSean Thomas show for missing out on Cannon Busters. Otherwise, we might be limited to whatever Viz gets for new stuff. There are some shows (like Planet With) that I can only ever see airing on Toonami if they pick them up. And maybe the dub of Mr. Osomatsu will come if they can get it finished already. -

Holy fuck, you ignored the central point again. I'll ask this one more time: Why are you so upset about Toonami marathons? How does it affect you? -

You completely ignored my central question: why do you care so much that Toonami takes marathon breaks? Any normal person would be happy to get a week without anime, because there's other stuff to do. -
Toonami moving back to 11PM start time in January
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I love how everything always fucking comes back to Hellsing Ultimate. Even though I don't mind the schedule moves much, they could've made things a lot easier by jettisoning the 9:00 hour only, so they'd only have to dump Shippuden to the ass-end of the block. -

There is no proof that marathons cause the shows to lose momentum. They've only been getting lower ratings because the entire block has been that way all the time. We've seen a natural degeneration over the course of this year despite there being fewer marathons than usual. Why does one week without Toonami make you mad? Is it because there's nothing more exciting in your life than a stupid block of cartoons fewer people care about anymore? At this point, I'm not sure if I can change your mind, so I just want to know why. -

Can the majority of your posts please not be about how marathons ruin everything? It's really not a big deal, and most others in Toonami fandom have moved past this. -
Whoops, I changed my mind. You better bet your thunderballs that this show is entertaining, and so much so that I'm compelled to restart it after just two episodes.
-
We have a whole thread for that, so yeah. However, people have been making these predictions because they see the overall anime landscape and can predict what Toonami will air as a business move. It's because of this that I want us to go back to subjectivity being the driving force behind predictions, but that doesn't have to do with the topic of the thread.
-
I like this move and have no complaints regarding it. Toonami aired too early, and I couldn't be assed to watch stuff. While some might call Shippuden being on so late unfair, I think it's fitting for a show that's gone long enough and that no one really cares about. In fact, I'd rather see them take it off entirely. HxH being on at 2:30 also fits its status.
-
Would it kill you if I said people predicted those two as well? Heck, I personally called Dimension W on Twitter. That one had Funimation on the production committee (meaning cheap TV rights to anyone who'd want to bother with it) while BC was spearheaded by the Japanese companies to the point where many figured Toonami would air it for really cheap.
-
Megalobox wasn't a surprise either. There were people who called it airing on Toonami from the first weeks it aired, thanks to it being entertaining and having a music-heavy style. And when Viz got it, the calls for Toonami only accelerated, as they're seemingly the only company willing to work with them on most acquired shows nowadays. What was the last show for the block that a majority of this fandom didn't predict? Gundam Unicorn?

You know, I think Mr. Fukunaga has a point here, but it's misinformed. Companies other than Netflix have snuffed out what should've been tremendously popular shows with a lack of advertising. Just look at Crunchyroll and Planet With. On top of that, it's hard for any one show to make it to the top of the heap when there is so much fucking anime to watch across the entire industry. Shows from opposite services can often cancel each other out. If Evangelion doesn't make much of a splash with the anime community at large when the new dub premieres, I'm sure that'll be attributable to viewers being occupied with stuff like the newest trashy isekai show of the week (of the season) more than a lack of advertising. We need to spare the complaining about how one particular company is screwed up when these problems stretch across the entire industry... but why do that when Netflix has Back Street Girls available to stream right now? Thanks, I love it.

I was wondering why the heck all the boxers, MMA fighters, and whoever else weren't going nuts over Megalobox. It would be such a great combination. Does this crossover appeal only apply to the popular shonen series? The ratings suck either way, so I look forward to our expansion to 4:30 coming in a few weeks.
