This season of anime is probably the best season in several years.
Blatch replied to Sandstone's topic in Anime & Manga
It would be nice to have more LGBT representation in anime, but I'm not a dirty moralist who is unable to enjoy any shows because of the lack of it. And yeah, I'm a straight white male (albeit bi-curious), but I've also seen other people of sexual minorities who don't go on and on about how little there is for them. -
Crunchyroll and Toonami formally partner under WB umbrella
Blatch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
That's probably it... although this theory has more to do with his general hatred of billionaires. It's a square peg I cut the edges off of to make fit. Sentai isn't really in bad shape. They've had a wide variety of their shows be borrowed by CR and vice versa with HIDIVE (like the fucking space fishing anime). Still, I really have to wonder what their place is in the industry right now, with Funi defiant and doing its own thing, and CR becoming an even bigger behemoth through joining forces with its corporate siblings. We probably would've heard of a Sentairoll deal being announced, but the fact that the last attempt with Funi ended up collapsing after a while would probably make either company weary. At this point, maybe the solution is for WarnerMedia to buy Sentai outright? It would be perfect for CR, as they would now have vertical integration for licensing shows, dubbing them (using Sentai's Seraphim Digital studios, assuming that they don't fall on Bang Zoom! for everything), and airing them on TV via Toonami. It's a bit of a crazy idea, but I think it can work. -
Here's the latest hot trickle: SAO took a(nother) hard fall, but Megalobox managed to make the tiniest of gains off it, which is cool. The numbers we're seeing suggest the block is still doing above average.

toonami Do you think Toonami has too much fantasy?
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The problem with this question is that it has too many variables and is too obtuse to answer. This block is airing shows like the Dragon Balls and Narutos that are such eclectic mixes of genres and are very hard to pin down. For instance, the former has the typical sci-fi elements of traveling through space/between universes and dimensions as well as alien races, but some of the aliens have powers that are in the realm of the fantastic. There are more casual elements of a fantasy thrown in as comedic relief, which I assume were more prominent in the first DB series, but I don't know for sure. Additionally, most arcs of Hunter × Hunter (I would except Greed Island) aren't fantasies. They're action-adventure stories with heavy supernatural elements (like JoJo's), and then you have Chimera Ant with its psychological thriller bent. -
Interesting... although this would go better in a thread about predictions, as this has more to do with rationalizing stuff that happened before. I guess I could see it, even though I don't know why the show is getting a new season when people hated the last one and the new movie that recently came out (the first in a trilogy) was tepidly recieved. Anyway, here's my offering: Children Who Chase Lost Voices was offered to Toonami by Sentai for a ridiculously cheap price, if not free. It was also meant to be an olive branch to them so more shows could air on TV, but that ultimately didn't take.

The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls U149 15 to 20 Mizutama Honey Boy 0 (one shot) to 2 I thought the title of that manga was for something different than I ended up starting, but I thought the premise was interesting enough for me to carry on.

Oh holy shit... I almost want that show to air on Toonami out of my fascination for seeing the world burn. It would make the controversy of every SAO season put together look like a cupcake.
-
It could just be that they get it eventually regardless of Hulu's actions, because the same happened with MHA for no real reason.

Hot damn! In particular, SAO must have either held My Hero really well or gained on it. Here's hoping the new corporate overlords are satisfied with these numbers.

That's an ugly drop for SAO. I thought it had potential after last week's showing.

I decided to watch this after hearing about the hype, bypassing my fuckin' huge backlog in the process. It was pretty good. I was expecting Gon's transformation (which I spoiled myself on long ago) to be flashier and involve more screaming, but I like the way the show undercut it in favor of horror. And that ending... damn! I wasn't expecting the explosion. I hope both him and Killua are okay.

My Hero Acadamia CD Drama causes rape/homophobia controversy
Blatch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The post is written in an authoritative way that implies the developers did do it on purpose. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably lacks basic reading comprehension skills. -
I think Toonami is pretty solid where it is. The only feasible expansion is to 10:30 for the next batch of new Titan episodes, just because of how simple that is. If Megalobox is replaced by a new one-cour series, that would end (accounting for marathons) in June, and probably late enough in the month that an Independence Day marathon would be an issue. Now, three weeks after the sub premiere is most likely for the premiere of AoT S3P2... but that's the weekend before Memorial Day, which also muddies the waters. They might just wait until after that and premiere on June 1, or it could be two weeks after the sub. Either way, I separate these ideas from each other.

Yeah... one of the people who helped spread the swatting rumor deleted their tweet, and they said the person who started it isn't mentally well. I normally detest the "LOL both sides" argument, but neither of 'em are looking good here. Even a broken South Park-themed clock is right sometimes.

Point taken, but it actually gets a lot worse than that. Look under the spoiler of my reply to mochi for one of the most explicit examples.

Yeah... no ethical consumption and all that. I get it, although I am the kind of person who makes clear what I believe in, so it was at least nice to give them a slap on the wrist for that. But it does suck that you can't support the biggest purveyor of anime in North America without giving money to productions like this. And CR is so proud of this that it hurts. Regarding High Guardian Spice, it makes me wonder if they were even serious about making that show to begin with. Maybe someone who works for them took a closer look at Shield Hero, got horrified at what it represented, and then quickly commissioned the most generic Steven Universe-like bean mouth American show possible to preemptively satiate the libs? Either way, it doesn't seem like they stand for anything now.

Could *Insert shitty show here* be headed to Toonami?
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
That show is usually the answer to "What sports anime could Toonami feasibly air?" Maybe Megalobox is on the block now, but their point still stands. I'd try to watch it.- 396 replies
