  1. I sort of agree. Thing is, this show is only four episodes long anyway, so it's not like it's going to nail down its end of the block once it does premiere. And hey, like many other people, I'm willing to give the crew all the time they need to make it great. At least we have Housing Complex C coming, and that should last for a full cours. Other than that, let's hope the higher-ups eventually decide to end the block's holding pattern and give them enough money to get something good from Sentai.
  2. Spy×Family 11/12 Birdie Wing -Golf Girl's Story- 2/3 Touhou Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream 4 My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! 1 (dubbed) Some comings and goings here, even if one's a repeat. I actually watched it on Catarina's birthday, and it made for a welcome respite from da newz. SpyFam is a really good show, but honestly, after the first few episodes I feel like I trailed off very slightly. The stuff at Eden College wasn't as compelling (with the focus on kid characters, I feel like it has shades of arcs from Log Horizon and To Your Eternity), though maybe I'm just saying that because it didn't feel like a Jump show after that, with muted violence, which also made for lamer content ratings. (Rather ironic, given that this was the big caveat for me going in.) But there were some real funny episodes stashed in there, like the one about dodgeball, even if it had little in the way of sports action. Looking forward to the second cours; seems like this season is going to be a lot less exciting than the last, but I'm glad the staff is taking time off to make sure this series remains polished. Expect the next ratings omnibus by the end of the month. Work has been taking up a lot of my time lately, but I'm still watching shows at a good pace. 😉
  3. So no new show on July 9. That's disappointing, but at this point my expectations for Toonami are muted anyway. I'll just keep chugging along and watching Primal and Lupin. The Q&A with DeMarco was enlightening. I especially liked the question (which hasn't been talked about yet here) that Sentai hasn't changed much since the AMC buyout. Looks like us not being able to get their shows is a problem on our buyout. Also, this tease towards a show that could air on the block has me hyped: [spread hype, not dooming]
  4. I originally posted a link here to Swimpedia's schedule archive, but I see Al beat me to the punch on it. So I guess I'll come up with a different reply. Hmm... [as] didn't do anything major for Juneteenth (outside of a Lazor Wulf marathon, but those happen every week), but they did air special bumps that explain the holiday a bit, plus a few that prefaced special shorts from Black creators. Check it all out: One factoid the video doesn't mention is that the Union general who told the slaves in Texas they were free shares a first name with me. 😯
  5. How very existential of you. 🥴 At this point, I just post and try not to dwell on the semantics of it all.
  6. Interesting. So Toonami had yet another deal go wonky and now they have to wait to, say, air more YashaHime? This block can't catch a break. It could be a weird error, as the block has had those in recent times in various flavors (like the whole "airing one new show a week for the next month" thing, or an AssClass topcial having the wrong time), but at this point, I'm not seeing it. [it's just a cartoon block; you should relax]
  7. Eh, I sympathize. Up until recently I tried to watch something on Toonami every week, but my job has been making me work on Sundays so I need to go to bed earlier. Last week I didn't watch Lupin live, and yesterday I skipped that and Primal, opting for either On-Demand episodes (since I neglected to set the DVR for Primal before it started) or my DVR copies. On the other hand, I haven't livetweeted much during Toonami for a good while. I did do some casual commenting during some episodes of Made in Abyss, but it's been a long time since I was serious about it, following Toonami Faithful and all and occasionally tweeting pictures of trending topics at them. Remember when that stuff was a big deal?
  8. Shippuden getting a marathon... well, scratch that, Shippuden getting any notable treatment on Toonami is a meme. The only promo it ever got was an [as] black-and-white bumper that basically doubled as one, since it announced the show's then-current timeslot. Heck, its bumps haven't even gotten new music since this year began, or so I've heard. Toonami could really do all the Naruto fans a solid, but it's not like they need one.
  9. I always thought the [as] version of Toonami should've aired the original show. Too bad it didn't seem to get new masters in HD to go with the other classic space westerns (Bebop and Outlaw Star, of course). And hey, Badlands Rumble aired during the original Month of Movies, and I liked it very much... or so I think. That was a long time ago.
  10. Last Period: the journey to the end of the despair 3 Touhou Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream 3 Spy×Family 10 The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 14 Birdie Wing -Golf Girl's Story- 1 This thread still needs more people, maybe especially me. Work is picking up, but I'm still trying my hardest to deliver the goods. Kinda like this: The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Episode 14: "Who is that girl in the castle?"
  11. Marathons don't have to mean anything. In fact, in this case it might be better if they don't bother. Had they chosen to air the second half of the series, then people could DVR it and watch the episodes right away, leaving no point for the rest of the rerun.
  12. So, two things: I thought Brad Rourke's first name was Blood, based on how Jigen pronounced it in the episode (and honestly, that would've been cooler), and I got a real kick out of Kenny being the one in disguise, as opposed to one of the heroes or heroines. Good on him for not only willing to go undercover but crossdress in the process. But I got a bigger kick when I saw that Magic Bus was listed as a production company for the episode. You know, the same studio that made Skirt no Naka?
  13. I wasn't intending to post in this thread every week, but I feel obligated to check in now and then. I loved this week's episode, though a big part of that was that it appeased the guro fan in me. I feel like it's Genndy's way of getting back after so many episodes of Samurai Jack featured robots getting brutally beaten and destroyed, and even the final season not having much in terms of graphic violence. This episode was detailed enough as to be gross, and maybe worthy of a content warning before the episode ("real American cowboys" and all), but it was also compelling and even beautiful. The first half of it was so peaceful and free of action that I figured there had to be a catch. Of course, the MAV rating this episode got gave it away (would it be possible for them to hide an episode's rating every so often, or even lie and change it within the episode?), and on top of that, this episode totally earned that rating. And here I thought S&P was starting to phone it in. In short, I'm looking forward to what adventures Spear and Fang are going to experience in the season's second half.
  14. Touhou Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream Episode 3: "Unraveling Déjà Vu" I'm glad the show pulled this one out like Seiran out of a hat, because after two and a half episodes where the main draw was... well, the fact that it exists, I'm glad it's taken on a unique flavor: slice of life with an unsettling cerebral edge. On to Episode 4! But wait a minute, didn't I say earlier it wasn't subbed yet? Turns out it is, and has been since I started this project. I just wasn't looking hard enough. 🙃
  15. You might remember when the Scavengers pilot short aired on Toonami all the way back at the end of 2016. Don't know what's taken so long, but a full-length treatment of it is finally going to air. I hope we can at least get premiere encores. Late edit: DeMarco is implying... something. [ergh, can't get this space to go away]
  16. Ooh, that's actually a good idea. [as] should be doing Friday marathons for action shows, at least for what they own.
  17. And Primal leads off, as it should. Neat that they're announcing this somewhat ahead of time. Hopefully they follow suit with the next new show.
  18. I never really thought about how old Billy was... maybe I was subconsciously thinking he was even younger, but 35 sounds about right. Though it was short, he certainly lived a life filled with love and affection. R.I.P. to a real one. What really makes me feel bad is that I watched JoJo's religiously on Toonami up until a few episodes into Part 4, where I trailed off. I'll have to do this guy a solid and finish it, though I'll probably rewatch the first three parts to prepare.
  19. Saying Toonami's blocked from getting all Sentai shows all because they have to stall for one week is... misguided. But other than that, yeah. Starve that guy of attention.
  20. Interviews with Monster Girls 3/4 (rewatch) Touhou Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream 2.5 Last Period: the journey to the end of the despair 2 (rewatch) Spy×Family 9 takt op. Destiny 7 And there we go. I'm caught up on everything now. Time for more Last Period, and I'm about to rewatch probably its most notable episode from a meta perspective. Hopefully it stems the tide of me not getting much enjoyment out of it. [the ed goes hard, though]
  21. At least they didn't add another rerun, not that I would've minded. Now I can watch just the first hour and tap out, which will help my sleep schedule a bit.
  22. Laid-Back Camp Season 2 Episode 1: Curry Noodles are the Best Travel Companion" - TV-PG Episode 2: "New Year's Solo Camper Girl" - TV-PG Episode 3: "Surprise Camping and Some Deep Thoughts" - TV-PG Episode 4: "What Are You Buying With Your Temp Job Money?" - TV-PG Episode 5: "Caribou-kun and Lake Yamanaka" - TV-PG Episode 6: "Cape Ohmama in Winter" - TV-PG Episode 7: "Nadeshiko's Solo Camp Planning" - TV-PG Spy×Family Mission:6: "THE FRIENDSHIP SCHEME" - TV-14L Mission:7: "THE TARGET'S SECOND SON" - TV-PGV Mission:8: "THE COUNTER-SECRET POLICE COVER OPTION" - TV-14L Mission:9: "SHOW OFF HOW IN LOVE YOU ARE" - TV-14L Touhou Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream Episode 2: "Pre Established Harmony" - TV-PGSV Episode 2.5 - TV-PGSV Interviews with Monster Girls Episode 1: "Takahashi Tetsuo Wants an Interview" - TV-PGDS Episode 2: "Dullahan-chan Wants to Be Coddled" - TV-PGDS Episode 3: "Succubus-san is a Real Adult" - TV-14D Episode 4: "Takahashi Tetsuo Wants to Protect" - TV-PGDS Good Luck Girl! Round 11: "...Who Are You?" - TV-14DSV Round 12: "Sometime, Call Me By My Name" - TV-14DS Round 13: "You Already Know the Answer to That" - TV-14DS [i have been inconsistent in giving the episodes their stylized names... expect some edits down the line] The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Episode 13: "It's about time to become Cinderella girls!" (review post here) [likewise for linking the episodes... I'm only doing this to be consistent] Last Period: the journey to the end of despair Episode 1: "Notice of Completion" - TV-PGDL Episode 2: "Hot Springs Custom" - TV-14S takt op.Destiny Episode 6: "Sunrise -Rooster-" - TV-14L Episode 7: "Truth -Noise-" - TV-14L And that finishes off my meatiest omnibus yet. Sorry about the lack of Girls' Last Tour again; I put it off because I realized my Roku (which I want to use for HIDIVE) doesn't support any audio output via my stereo system. At this point, I think I'll buy the Blu-ray and use that for making my screenshots, so as to avoid pain in numerous ways. Anyway: next time, I start rating Birdie Wing, and maybe return to Squid Girl and properly start my HD remakes of those images. [anya had stubby legs]
  23. And here you thought Netflix was going to make a Yakuza series to ride Shenmue's coattails. Guess this works too. Also, it's a nice way to override that older Ito anthology series.
  24. Touhou Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream Episode 2.5 [where's the title?] So anyway, two more episodes to go, but only one is subbed. And... wait a minute, hold the phone. I just got off of it with the CEO of anime, and she told me there's another Touhou series out there. And this one's made by the Chinese! They're not really people you should deal with (just ask Phil Mickelson), but I am privvy to watching just about every damn Touhou fanime ever made, so I'll take a bite out of this apple. The show is called Hifuu Club Acitivity Record ~ The Sealed Estoeric History, and it takes a decidedly different approach compared to other series by portraying the elaborate backstories of all the characters in Gensokyo, some of which is made up, but the main focus is on two nutjob humans from the outside world who tell us all about it. Sounds like fun, don't you think? So this is now schedule for after I finish this series. Yeah, I'm itching to get to Memories of Phantasm, but it's the longest of the various fanime by a big margin, and I want to go in it without any distractions, save newly subbed episodes of any series that come out.
