  1. All of this talk about Infinity Train is doing a better job of making me want to watch the show than anything that happened during its original run, save for maybe when people thought [adult swim] Jr. was gonna be a thing and this show would be its first original. Remember that? Anyway, it helps that I'm big on media preservation: rip your Blu-ray discs (even if you can't play them), back up your FLACs, and stash all your ripped video games on a different computer somewhere in the house. Too bad I don't have a media server where I can have instant access to all of it at any given time, but I prefer physical media anyway.
  2. Well, that was worth the price of "we're not spoiling this and neither should you". I was expecting this to be something completely different, but I also thought it would have grander implications for this show's lore, and maybe even a connection to one of Genndy's other shows. Then again, saying that would probably get you laughed off of Twitter by people who hate TVTropes and the people it's apparently brainwashed into believing that more lore = a better show. This was a solid stand-alone action feature, and I wasn't expecting it to end with the ostensibly heroic characters defeating the big, bad primal prisoner. Just goes to show many storytelling skills this guy is packing.
  3. Himegoto 3-6 (reread) Witch Hat Atelier 10-11 The Idolm@ster Million Live! 4
  4. Laid-Back Camp S2E12/13 And a sorta random bit of news: the ComicFesta title popularly known as Show Time! (I just refer to it as the show with the Songstress) is being dubbed. Crazy that these hentai that air censored versions on Japanese TV are now a big deal around here too. Makes my comment about how Skirt no Naka will never be released hilarious in hindsight. [never on crunchyroll, though]
  5. Talk about doing Viz a solid, and by extension Toonami. I expect this to air on the block with no resistance. It would be cool if a little awkward if they got Madhouse back for S3, but let's be honest: it wouldn't be anything without getting back the talented freelancers who helped take S1 over the top. Hopefully they're not all preoccupied with Demon Slayer or something.
  6. I'm mostly used to AI art from memes, and I've taken a stab at making my own a few times. It's going to be weird seeing more mainstream uses of it. I also think a lot of the fun from DALL-E came from the early versions of it where it was rougher, and thus whatever you got from your fucked-up queries was especially deranged. To some extent, I'd prefer if things stayed that way.
  7. And today marks 20 years since the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil ("the" is part of the title) came out... in Japan. But I'm not waiting until tomorrow my time to celebrate. Touhou Hifuu Club ~The Sealed Esoteric History~ Episode 1: "Moon"
  8. Maybe. I know Sentai has the home video rights and is actually making their own dub for the show to be included there, so on top of that weirdness, maybe it would be available for Toonami to air? But I also know the same thing happened for Kakegurui, and that show ain't leaving Netflix anytime soon.
  9. Now that was an episode that earned its TV-MAV. I saw this back-to-back with the previous one, and that episode felt like it could've gotten an MA straight if WBD S&P (woah, that one rolls off your tongue) used intermediary ratings for things other than dialogue sets, or even a 14V. I mean, all it had was Fang chomping one guy in half. And from the looks if it, next week's episode isn't going to be any better, assuming that audio from the end is actually from the episode. Caveman (and Dinosaur) vs. Vikings: The Ultimate Showdown. Maybe this is just a precursor to Vinland Saga on Toonami?
  10. Just watched this. It was one long conversation lasting 11 minutes, possibly improvised. The characters fucked up and didn't get to do anything mentioned in the episode description. I kinda liked it, but more for how experimental it felt. Good thing I've already seen an episode via this year's April Fools' stunt. Also, weird that [as] decided to premiere this on a Saturday. I wasn't expecting it to do any favors for Toonami, but the ratings seem to have been normal.
  11. All right! I bought the first volume of this series and liked it very much. It's big enough that it was a foregone conclusion it would get animated. Trigger is a pretty left-field choice for it, though. Hopefully their take on it has a heaping dose of sakuga.
  12. Interviews with Monster Girls 5/6 Girls' Last Tour 1 (rewatch)/2 Laid-Back Camp S2E10/11 The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls 15 Birdie Wing -Golf Girl's Story- 6/7 Touhou Hifuu Club: The Sealed Esoteric History 1 Jesus, almost a month since my last post. I thought I'd posted earlier, but I guess not. No biggie. Seven years ago today, I published my first review of an anime episode on the ASMB w/ gratuitous content ratings, which was the first episode of Squid Girl. Seems time to pile on another. The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Episode 15: "When the spell is broken..." [r.i.p. jerry garcia]
  13. More than anything, I'm afraid Uzumaki might get axed, simply because it's been delayed multiple times and has probably sucked up a lot of money. But who knows if it'll test well. Believe me, I'm trying not to think about Toonami getting cancelled as hard as I can, and I'm sure you are too. But, having dwelled on things, I think the block actually has just as much to gain from the new management at WBD as it does to lose. Because, above all else, Toonami is a brand. A brand that's been around for over a quarter century (though there were three and a half years where it wasn't airing) and has lots of credibility among anime fans. Go up to some rando otaku on the street, show them a picture of TOM, and I think there's a good chance they'll know who he is. So what's to say this brand isn't something Zaslav and friends want to exploit? We already know they want to make a Harry Potter series (which, ew, but it's his beliefs and I can respect that). Maybe Cosmo Samurai: The Series could come with it?
  14. Yeah, this doesn't sound good. 😕 My hope is, as I've probably said before, that acquiring anime is cheap enough to fit into their plans, so Toonami sticks around as a result. Co-pros, on the other hand... well, let's hope Uzumaki doesn't get shitcanned.
  15. Hey, I wasn't trying to be alarmist. It sucks, but the only stake I have in all this is [as], and by extension Toonami. Our end of the pool has been surprisingly fee of dooming, which I attribute to anime being cheap and available in... decent quantity. And I can't see them canceling Primal, as it's rated well and has credibility via awards behind it. [but who knows what's happening to the co-pros]
  16. If that's not enough, Warners has also removed several HBO Max original movies from the service, and more series/shows are on the chopping block, presumably also for tax cuts. This is appalling and a bit bewildering. Canning Batgirl was bad enough (and how often does a movie get cancelled deep into production nowadays?), but getting rid of original streaming content just reeks of capitalist excess. I figured we would see this happen eventually, but I wasn't expecting it to happen to content that had premiered just a couple years earlier. It's enough to make me wonder what might happen to the [adult swim]/Crunchyroll originals. Maybe they're gonna write off Fena and it won't be allowed to air on Toonami again? I suppose it wouldn't be a huge loss, and we've seen this happen before (ThunderCats (2011)/Sym-Bionic Titan/Beware the Batman), but I still wouldn't approve of it.
  17. So I guess we're not having any more DC movie nights? That kinda sucks, though I know if at least one person who would consider it a positive.
  18. I have seen neither Dawn of the Deep Soul nor S2. I was going to do them subbed, but later decided I was going to hold out for a Dubcast for the latter. But I think the real reason is because of how heavy the content is in these new installments: lotsa violence and other unsultry things, mostly involving minors. It makes me wonder if they might be too extreme for Toonami.
  19. Then why don't you just not watch the rerun? That's what I usually do. Mind you, I have the BDs for Made in Abyss (the limited edition set, even), but I don't want to revisit that or Black Lotus for now.
  20. Boy, the high brass at Discovery has been vicious. They've cancelled every show that hasn't already been renewed, except for Birdgirl which recently finished its second season. I wonder if that one will be next?
  21. I think you're making this too complicated. It's actually cool how MiA's rerun is going to end the same week as the DST expansion, so they shouldn't have to do anything else to accomodate it. And if they want to use the extra half-hour for some reason, just air Korgoth of Barbaria again. This has little to do with anything, but I feel like I'm owed one more hour of avant-garde shorts in that timeslot, just like they did in 2013. At this point, I don't think people would be anywhere near as vocal about it as they were back then, when King Star King's pilot shit on our eyes and pissed into our ears.
  22. I know a lot of Toonami fans weren't keen on Black Lotus, but I liked it. Just wish the pacing was a little less sleepy and that I had watched the movies beforehand so I knew more about the world. And a rerun of Made in Abyss is a pretty good thing, methinks. It's just reruns. What, were you actually expecting something new to replace one of them? In Masquerade's case, I think it's more that it's starting to get old, with all the Watsuki references and such. As for the other guy, he needs more exclamation points. But yeah, a Keijo!!!!!!!! joke? Surprised to see it in this economy.
  23. I really hope Empress is taking a break from this thread, because otherwise, what's the point of having it? After how long it's lasted, I'd hate to see it finish as a glorified schedule archive. We already have Swimpedia for that.
  24. Controversial? Satoshi Mizutani's works are beloved by all who have seen them, including Planet With, which I saw in 2018 and actually didn't get too much enjoyment out of, but explaining why is rather complicated. Frankly, I'm shocked I was even able to function back in that year. But just because that show had a competent production and this Biscuit Hammer show does not doesn't mean it's automatically horrible. I went through this dance with To Your Eternity, which is a show I like very much. If you noticed that, I give my casual apologies. I'll also give them to anyone who's realized takt op. got shut out again. But hey, we only do this for fun. Nobody's supposed to get too serious about it. Coming up next time: Action! Laffs! Idol drama! Hifuu Club! But not any other new shows w/ screenshots, because my plate is full for now. And to think there's second seasons of a lot of stuff I've done them either out or coming out, including KanColle! That's going to be a fun trip.
  25. God, this is some remarkable television. Almost nine years later (for me, anyway), Toonami still delivers. Looking forward to S2, with all the gratuitous violence it implies.
