  1. Funnily enough, I feel the same way. This could be a harbinger of a smaller budget than usual. I guess it might've always been in the cards that they'd use Grunge as a replacement this time around, though. But they won't have that excuse next time (unless Uzumaki is ready by then), and it won't be long, because FLCL is six episodes every time.
  2. Al, you didn't need to turn this into another thread to discuss the upcoming movies/specials when we already have two others for that. Not to mention, I second what Toonamiguy321 said about the next round of replacements.
  3. Well this is annoying. At least more Ballmastrz gets to air on the block, even if it's a same-week rerun (Rubicon premieres on February 20).
  4. Aw man, I forgot to honor my country. I'll be more timely next year.
  5. My gut is saying Akiba Maid War, even though I want to doubt that because it feels like a lot of Sentai simulcasts have been floated for Toonami over the last few years, and none of 'em have panned out. Hell, remember when people thought The Executioner and Her Way of Life had a shot? The other slot will probably go to the second episode of One Piece, unless CR wants to play hardball with that one. I'm expecting the big guns (i.e. Bleach, FLCL sequels) to come out later in the year.
  6. Hey, you got it. I wanted to make this yesterday night, but I forgor. And either way, I haven't even watched the last episode yet.
  7. Made in Abyss S2E7/8 The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 18 Last Period: the journey to the (end) of the despair 12 Birdie Wing -Golf Girls' Story- 12 Last Period is a decent show. I started it in late 2019, and the reason it took me so long to finish is its first two episodes are easily the weakest, being more childish and featuring repetitive fourth-wall breaking jokes. Immediately after that, the show's writing picks up, and it becomes a funny parody of gacha games and related stuff that's surprisingly pointed at times. Also, I wasn't a fan of this show's OP and I guess I still ain't, while I eventually came around to the ED in spite of it being... a little much, mostly visually. Interestingly, the show's rating on Crunchyroll is just 3.2, whereas every recent show I've watched on the platform (not that any of them are all that bad) are close to 5.0 as a matter of principle. And the first review I saw of this show was negative. What gives? Life's too short to be a hater; do it too much, and you might even turn into a Spiral. The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Episode 18: "A little bit of courage shows your way." [omnibus next week?]
  8. It will indeed be rough, but even though Roiland was the heart and soul of the show (insomuch that it can have a heart), the writing staff are the people who do the real work. Also, the show's continuity featuring alternate universes and the like means they can get creative and change the status quo however they want.
  9. Oh hey, I can send this on my lunch break. This episode's title is not to be confused with a certain Toonami TIE. Seems like it'll have some more interactions between Faputa and Reg. The former wants to enter the village, and that doesn't sound good, especially not after two delightfully fucked-up flashback episodes. Least the rating for this one is a straight MA.
  10. Dandy is an out-and-out classic, and it marked the beginning of my personal golden age for Toonami. I love to the point where I called it my favorite anime when pressed by a co-worker. Hopefully my kind feelings will get through to Watanabe somehow.
  11. MiA got one for its first hour-long season finale, so this next one should as well. Not sure about Yashahime, but they've got nothing better to make a promo for right now, so I say go for it... if they have the manpower. Yes. Hopefully, but I suppose at least some of it could've been an act. You can never tell on a forum with enough special people like ours. [goddamnit yo]
  12. Would that be much of a bad thing, though? Honestly. [as] is a shell of what it used to be, removed of most of its personality and not churning out weird shows like it used to. But paradoxically, even if R&M does get the axe, I think they'll keep the channel around simply because it's a long-lived and familiar brand. You've brought up before how he tried to get out of American Dad! in spite of its continued success, but I think that has more to do with it being a show owned by a different company (in this case, Fox). If he tried to get rid of House of the Dragon, an in-house show that is supremely expensive to produce but whose first season had some of the best ratings in the history of HBO, I think that'd be a more fair comparison. Granted, maybe he has and we don't know yet.
  13. Instructions unclear, he cancelled Uzumaki instead. 🥴 I didn't really notice this news when it first happened, but after reading the discussion here, I'm disappointed. I got the Rick and Morty S5 Blu-ray for Christmas, in spite of not having finished Season 4 yet. I was hoping to either watch from where I left off or start it from the beginning, but it looks like that's going to wait at least a little bit. I do think it's a funny show, even in light of the insufferable nature of its fanbase, but it's going to be harder to enjoy it regardless of how this news shakes out.
  14. Sakura Trick 1/2 Touhou Hifuu Club: The Sealed Esoteric History 3 The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 17 Girls' Last Tour 5 Spy×Family 17/18 The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Episode 17: "Where does this road lead to?" [red is dubbed, bolded is now new; italicized will indicate i have spoilered comments]
  15. I sympathize, but when you consider that the Toonami staff has other roles in addition to running the block, which is something they do on the side anyway, it's not that unreasonable that they could half-ass it like this. As for the art itself, I didn't know that this was also the paywalled art that got stolen. Too bad, because this was a power move, even if I'd have picked bondage before fat fetishism.
  16. Touhou Hifuu Club ~The Sealed Esoteric History~ Episode 3 [part one]: "Wish" And that does it for this one for a while. I'd rather not explain myself, but I think you know what's next.
  17. Oh hey, it's me again, having come to reclaim my perch for the start of 2023. I figure I can send this out right at midnight and still get a decent amount of sleep. So, it looks like it's time to go deeper into the horrifying backstory of this village. Who knows what questions will be answered? Maybe we'll find out why there are so many hollows here. Honestly, I wish I could be a little more hyped for the rest of this season, but having read Anime News Network's recent year-in-review feature, one of the articles has some big spoilers for how this season ends. I mean, I figured it wouldn't be pretty either way, but I wanted to be blissfully unaware until it actually happened. So don't click on the "Best Moments" article and scroll downward if you value your... something. Maybe just your value. But hey, this has been a fun season on the whole, somehow not as horrifying as I expected so far.
  18. Spy×Family 14-16 Touhou Project Side Story: Memory of Stars Made in Abyss S2E6 Last Period: the journey to the end of the despair 10/11 Birdie Wing -Golf Girl's Story- 11 [auld lang signed]
  19. Touhou Project Side Story: Memory of Stars And I do believe we are at the end of the year. Hope you had a good 2022; I felt like I got better as the world got worse. See you all for Touhou 19, let alone all of this fanime.
  20. Personally, I like it. Gives me nostalgia for the mid-2010s when I first got my feet wet with the block. And it's at least fitting, since they're traveling through space again. Maybe we could get new bars at some point, but there haven't been any new shows in 4:3 to warrant them, and it's not like the block has enough resources for something like that anyway.
  21. I'm still impressed that Toonami was able to get Made in Abyss, since it's so unlike anything else they've shown interest in. It's not even bolstered my hopes for other Sentai titles, but hey, maybe Kaiji is possible at this point? So that would probably be my number one. On the other hand, while I wasn't too keen on Housing Complex C, the final episode was gory and overblown and almost made the show worth it by itself. Almost. So I loved that, which I guess is compensation for not liking Shenmue as much as I did, though most of my problems there were in the second half. Also, Blade Runner: Black Lotus was a thing. I neither loved it nor hated it, though I edge toward liking it. Anybody else gonna mention that? Funny to think any of it aired this year, as it's been consigned to the write-off bin where it shall spend an eternity. At least we still have that comic book continuation in the works, unless that's been cancelled too. The worst? Probably having to see the "Gross, stop drooling!" bump for the umpteenth time. It's tough for me to come up with anything particularly egregious because, even despite the lack of premieres over the summer, Primal was new to me, and it was a real thrill getting to watch it for the first time. Season 3 announcement soon? Come on Zaslav. At least I'm not paranoid enough to think Uzumaki could be cancelled any day now. If anything, they'll give it to someone else like they're doing with the DC shows now.
  22. Not having Toonami air at all on certain weeks would be an interesting idea, but I'm not a fan of it. Because when you can have a few hours of an action show you produced/own in perpetuity air for free, what's the point of putting on comedy instead? Unless they're getting so frugal they don't even want Steve and Dana to come in to record lines for the special intro and make new bumps to air afterward. At this point, whoever's running this block seemingly can't announce a single schedule change/special lineup without something going awry and bringing out the pessimism in this fandom. It's comical, though I hope it ends soon.
