Another thing is what proof is there that it's not just a hoax by the guy? Until someone actually dies, there's no way to know for sure, but considering he's believed by everyone to be a genius, guess it kind of figures everyone would be predisposed to believe he's serious.

To be fair, they probably don't exactly have the time to injure him with a gunshot wound if they can help it.

They did mention an Einstein comparison. I'm wondering if it's in any way analogous to a side effect but engineered. I mean I'm no scientist lol, but I imagine there's at least some mechanism by which it could work in theory after 20-30 more years of R & D. Kind of a flimsy premise but im not too concerned.

good question. If I understand Watanabe, the whole societal sickness thing is just a commentary on our addiction to instant gratification and the angle he took is just a convenient plot device.Ā  He's probably not overly concerned with making sure it's all 100 grounded in reality. I probably would have preferred something less flimsy tbh, but that's not necessarily Watanabe's wheelhouse.

The whole prison breakout seemed really forced to make the MC look good, while also ignoring common knowledge about prison guards. Primarily that they donā€™t carry guns and donā€™t wear ties, for the exact reasons depicted here. Is that why Spike Jr escapes so many prisons? Because they are all ran poorly in the future?Ā

Lots of style, not much substance. Kind of what we expect from an episode 1 of a Toonami original. I just hope they didnā€™t blow all their style budget on that episode, because I doubt the substance level is gonna go up any.Ā

I can fuck to this so far. Hell, I don't even need much plot, just give me 10 minutes of that insane choreography and Watanabe's fantastic music choices per episode and I'm set. Really makes me want to replay Mirror's Edge.

This whole show is about substance in a manner of speaking. xD

Someone didn't do enough research on prisons when they wrote this episode.

Finally got around to the first episode, and much to my chagrin, I had to use Microsoft Edge in order to do so. It ain't a masterpiece, mostly thanks to Sentai's typical dub direction (Axel's VA easily gives the biggest damn of the bunch), but I dig it, the music especially, and I imagine that like will increase the more people try to break their backs claiming it's Mediocre, Actually.
