Without going all night, ironically, cuz I heard they don't allow bathroom breaks anymore, so props. Longest filibuster in history was just over 24 hours though, so he's still got a ways to go if he wants to top that. Thurmond who set the record was able to take a bathroom break though, so that's probably not possible to surpass without exhorting to extreme measures anymore. 1 Quote
Raptorpat Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Quote The Trump administration now admits that Mr. Abrego Garcia’s removal was an “administrative error.” Moreover, Justice Department lawyers said in court papers that there was little they could do get him back from El Salvador, and have urged the judge overseeing the case to reject his family’s petition to bring him home, arguing that the White House cannot force the Salvadoran government to release him and that U.S. federal courts have no jurisdiction to order his release. While Mr. Abrego Garcia’s case is separate from those of the Venezuelans who are challenging the administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act, it raises some similar issues. Lawyers for the Venezuelans have persistently argued that their clients have had no opportunity to challenge accusations that they are gang members, and several have ended up in the same Salvadoran prison without any way of protesting their plight or returning to the United States. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/01/us/politics/maryland-man-deportation-error-el-salvador.html 1 4 Quote
Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted April 1 Posted April 1 And yet they had no problem springing the Tate brothers and bringing them over here. SMH Absolute BS anyway that they don't have the ability to get El Salvador to release these folks. If they got them to take them, they can obviously get them to release them. All the more reason these people need due process and sending anyone anywhere without it should be strictly prohibited, period. 1 3 Quote
PenguinBoss Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Damn, almost like there's an inherent issue in shipping people to foreign slave prisons with little evidence and no due process. 1 3 Quote

Raptorpat Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) MEANWHILE IN THE HOUSE Quote Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) successfully used an arcane and rarely successful discharge petition procedure to force a vote on Rep. Brittany Pettersen’s (D-Colo.) resolution to allow members who give birth or lawmakers whose spouses give birth to have another member vote for them for 12 weeks. But amid opposition from Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) — who has argued that proxy voting is unconstitutional — the leadership-controlled House Rules Committee inserted language into a procedural rule to kill Luna’s effort. That hardball tactic, however, failed Tuesday when nine Republicans voted with Democrats to torpedo the procedural vote, bringing key legislative action on the floor to a halt. Without adopting a rule, the House is unable to debate and vote on big-ticket legislative items. https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5226248-house-cancels-votes-gop-rebellion/ Edited April 2 by Raptorpat weird copypasta html error 6 Quote

Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Inside Trump and RFK Jr.’s Health Agency ‘Bloodbath’ The layoffs included 1,200 positions at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and 3,500 at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Robert Califf, the former FDA commissioner under Obama and Biden, called it a “dark day for public health.” “The FDA as we’ve known it is finished, with most of the leaders with institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of product development and safety no longer employed,” wrote Califf in a LinkedIn post. “I believe that history will see this as a huge mistake.” Meanwhile, RFK is eviscerating the CDC, the NIH, the FDA... the WTF. I mean seriously, if the idea with this import tax hike they're putting on people is to drive companies to want to invest here, just ask yourself why would any of them want to do that in a country that's actively trying to make its people sicker and is opening itself up to being the likely epicenter of another pandemic. I admit maybe that's not front and foremost on a CEOs mind when trying to decide where to build a factory, but that and all the other chaos they're creating here can't be all that attractive to them. BTW, wonder what the republican reaction in congress is to all these people in HHS losing their jobs? https://people.com/senator-jim-banks-tells-hhs-employee-who-lost-job-you-probably-deserved-it-11707374 5 Quote
