Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the review on ANN seemed to suggest the opposite, that it honestly isn't anything special as a stand-alone film. Thats definitely a possibility. Most of the films labelled good or great these days end up being way overhyped imo.

I really want to see Godzilla vs Kong on a huge screen but I’m not risking it at this rate.
Chapinator_X
As nice as it is that it’s coming over finally, going to the movies to watch this is suicide. It’s also silly that they’re not giving it a VOD release alongside it. With adjacent theater & VOD releases being the new normal for last year and this year, they’d rather timegate it to get audiences to risk getting COVID and get their money’s worth at the theaters. Come in cosplaying as Tanjiro and come out two weeks later looking like Kagaya. 2 2
Jman
At least the digital wait isn’t too long, but dammit, I didn’t set up that home theater during quarantine to risk my life at a theater. Once I get vaccinated maybe, but that’s still a few months away in this state.
Chapinator_X
True, a two month gap is a little better than waiting half a year between a theatrical and home release. As much as it sucks to avoid the theaters for the one shounen anime film I’d be happy to see in theaters, the wait for the VOD version is far more painless in comparison to how pre-COVID anime theatrical releases were handled. PokeNirvash
Whether I gladly risk my life in the theater or seek it out through more at-home means, I'm definitely watching this considering it is absolutely plot relevant and starting season 2 without seeing this would be way too confusing for the casual Toonami-watcher crowd of the Demon Slayer audience I'm a part of.

Toonami is going to get Season 2 without a doubt just to keep it away from Netflix as long as they can. Which sucks because they won't get the movie, and the show does better on Netflix anyway. Maybe I’m getting a little ahead of myself in thinking we’ll be all good by then, but I did have it even if I was asymptomatic and I have been a little more careless since finding out. Regardless, If there’s any doubt or threat I ain’t going near a theater. Maybe I’ll just splurge on an OLED screen and call it a day. Zenitsu being a whiny bitch upon his proper introduction was strike one. Him claiming the little kid saved him from the demon he sleep-killed was strike two. Him screeching like a lunatic over Tanjiro keeping Nezuko from him - preventing Tanjiro from introducing her as his sister - and then chasing her around in a daze while she runs away from him in the most flighty manner imaginable, further proving that everyone's burrito daughteru is a non-character in any episode where she doesn't even have internal dialogue, was strike two and a half. Still waiting on strike three. 1
Chapinator_X
I think the worst of Zenitsu was the spider arc and that afterwards, he’s much more tolerable. But it’s difficult to gauge since the manga doesn’t have Hiro Shimono’s screeching play out as you thumb through the pages. It took autotuning his voice to make any of that funny. The US dub version of Zenitsu drives me in-freaking-sane. I actually think the show is great despite him but he is the most irritating character in recent anime history by a mile imo. There is absolutely no reason why his character needs to written like he is and I often wonder and hope that something is being lost in translation. He's had some decent moments it's just too bad they made him so insufferable otherwise.

I'd guess that a theater-exclusive release was a mandate from Japanland, where it made approximately 75 gajillion money.

Still waiting on strike three. It was the massive whiplash of the first few episodes into a borderline comedy series that never tells a funny joke was really offputting. I'll still watch it since I'm sure my friends want to see it but all of us were disappointed by the wild shift in atmosphere, even one who has stated he has minimal standards.

EmpressAngel
Or they have some completely justified concerns about their movie being immediately pirated to hell and back with a VOD release. Theater bootlegs are way less of a concern because fewer people are going to settle for watching a shit quality video from someone's phone, with all the recorder's natural movement and background noise included.
