SwimModSponges
There are glass trinkets from 50 years ago that are worth hundreds of dollars today. In 40 years your rick and morty funko won't be worth a thing because there will be millions of them. The majority of those little glass trinkets broke, that's what makes the surviving few valuable. Nothing breaks anymore.
Mortir
I have collectors editions of all LotR films still sitting in there plastic. I will probably just put them in the attic at some point.
SwimModSponges
They will live forever, without value, because they can't be destroyed.
André Toulon
This is the complete antithesis of literally everything being made to break these days. I think you tried to sell a broad narrative with a shitty product. 1
SwimModSponges
I suppose I should clarify that I was mostly talking about nik-naks and the like. But yeah good point I suppose. But ok even then, an xbox360 that still works has relative value I imagine, but it'd never be worth as much, relatively speaking, as one of those little glass figures. Seight
I had this conversation with my dad once. The reason Star Wars toys from the 70s are rare, for instance, is because nobody would have thought to save them. If you buy the newer toys online to hoard them for value, well so did everyone else.
PhilosipherStoned
There's always artificial scarcity. Just take a page from the tech sales market then I guess.. Nintendo probably has a copyright on the process though. 😑

I have an antique glass ashtray that would crush the skull of John Ferraro before it would break
Chapinator_X
Nowadays, there are things made specifically to be replaced and things made to be unbreakable. The things meant to be replaced are expensive luxuries that ended up becoming necessities like smart phones, cars, or laptops. The things that will never break ended up being junk that you couldn’t pay someone to take off of your hands.

I can't say they'll definitely be in the same range as glass figures, but they probably break more often.

This is a critique on antiques/collectables and the difference between. I was mostly just spitballing, throwing out random thoughts I had. resurrected
I had all the Star Wars figures from the 70's. ALL OF THEM. Had the entire collection of G.I. Joe and He-Man as well. Gave them all away back in the 80's. I wish I could go back to that time and kick myself in the nuts.
