I mean, you can't offend the whites with spice.

My parents are the epitome of that stereotype. Perfectly acceptable to them to cook meat w/zero seasonings... Theyve watched me cook, ate my cooking, they want me to cook all the time bc they like it, yet when it comes time for them to cook, nope, bland.

They even ask me what spices to use. I'll tell them and then it's like 1/20th the right amount. Like really. Wtf. Are they lying to me that they like my cooking? Or are they somehow unable to quantify how much herbs and spices i'm putting on despite watching me do it?

And it's like they think you only use one spice when you cook. Like they asked me what to put on salmon. I said salt, pepper, garlic, italian herbs, and dill. I said "definitely dill for sure" and then they served up salmon w/barely the slightest sprinkling of dill and no salt, pepper, garlic, or italian herbs.

They watch cooking shows. They loved Emeril back in the day. They have a shelf full of cook books.

Why are they like this?

Why yes...yes I am.  Still, I love Dal Tadka, among other "spicy" dishes.  It just seems that most people say "spicy" and really mean hot peppers.

Packard, why do you have so much trouble understanding what a thread is about?
