Artbooks are pretty awesome. Got one for Breath of the Wild recently and it shows how much effort they put into realizing the details of the game. At some point I need to get ones for Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and FF.

I've always meant to just find something to stare at the backgrounds of darkstalkers...So much shit going on that you can't pay attention to because of the fight.

What's with these titles / captions / whatever... Smooched by a vampire? Destroyers of rice balls? I never actually beat Castlevania, but I doubt the ending involved Simon Belmont and Dracula making out.

Oh wait this is SNES, and I did beat Castlevania IV... I definitely don't remember Simon and Dracula making out.

Pretty sure that's Dracula X......And there may have been some vampire sex in that one...Cant remember.  All I remeber is the weekend I rented it, I spent the night at a friend's house and barely got to play it.....Tried again a few years back on an emulator but it crashed every time you opened options so I just play SotN

Not doubting you, but technically I don't think Dracula X was ever released on SNES. At best it was released on the Super Famicom (which I guess is close enough for this book). I know it was released on PC Engine though (Japanese version of Turbo Graphix 16).

Oh wait, am I thinking of Rondo of Blood? Or is that the same game? Bah, confusing shit.

I looked it up since in that book it says "Vampire's Kiss"....Which I'd never heard of.

Apparently they are all the same game....For some silly reason

Holy shit, it was actually on the Super Nintendo? No youtube vids I've seen on Castlevania history (which admittedly, aren't many) mentioned anything called Vampire's Kiss. I wonder if it was only released to the European market or something.

Albeit a pretty watered down port

People say that, so I watch some vids of RoB and not sure what was better...Mostly because I haven't really gotten to sit down and play DX and refuse to watch anything on the SNES version because I will play it one day.

It's not a bad game but if you played Rondo of Blood first then Dracula X afterward DX feels underwhelming

Dracula X final boss felt way more satisfying to beat though, Rondo of Blood's final boss is a cakewalk.

Honestly I didn't think that the final boss in DX was all that difficult. Just let Dracula come to you and then chuck axes at him.

Yeah he wasn't all that hard either, but still took me a few times unlike RoB which went down first try.

If I wasn't already presented with better proof already, I would say this proves nothing.

A long ass time ago GamePro ran an article that Final Fantasy III was coming to America on SNES soon (I can't remember the time frame the magazine gave). Long story short the article they wrote  was about what is now known as Final Fantasy V and boy howdy (to steal a line from sponges) did it take a long ass time to get that to America, and also took a lot longer (but not as long) to get what finally came to be called Final Fantasy III here (FFVI, of course).

Also you gotta remember it was 1995 and this game was sandwiched in between Chrono Trigger and Yoshi's Island along with other heavy hitters like Killer Instict, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mega Man X2, NHL '96, Mortal Kombat 3 and plus throw in the arrival of the PlayStation and you can see why this game got lost in the shuffle.

I get why no one knew about it back then, but youtubers talking about Rondo of Blood on PC Engine don't know about it?????

Can't explain other than Dracula X isn't exactly a classic. It's kinda the bastard child of the old 2D Castlevania games that most people don't talk about

i thought they were the same game just ported over. but looks very different from that video buddy posted.

The problem with Dracula X is a lot content was cut from the original game so it just comes another action platmormer game. I'm not saying that it's not a bad game mean I still would rather play this game over the original NES trilogy mostly because it has better controls but still if you played Rondo of Blood then play Dracula X you might be a little disappointed.
