Mary and the Witch's Flower, made by Ghibli alumni

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Summer Wars

Wolf Children

A Letter To Momo

The Boy And The Beast

Penguin Highway

Lu Over The Wall

there are also tons of anime movies based on anime series like all the Pokemon movies, Digimon, My Hero Academia, Dragonball Z, etc.

Uhhh... so it can be Ghibli or just like Ghibli?

How about Ponyo or Spirited Away?

Summer Wars isn't Ghibli but it's a family themed/ Sci Fi movie.

You don't have to lie about having a girlfriend we still think you're a cool guy.

Elfie's list is good.  You could add Little Witch Academia (series and movies), Flying Witch (series, sol, veeeery laid back), Maquia, Patema Inverted, Typhoon Noruda (short movie), and stuff like Garden of Words (Shinkai scenery porn) and Your Name (Shinkai best-selling magical-reality emo-porn).

Have you seen all of Ghibli's output or just the big 5 or 6?

I specifically did not include Ghibli films, even though there are a few that don't take on their signature style, because you requested "family films like that".  This is why The Tale Of Princess Kaguya and My Neighbors The Yamadas aren't on that list.

i mean boku no piko is always a good holiday family friendly trilogy to watch with the gf.

No it isn't. I'm starting to think you're intentionally giving bad advice for the sake of comedy. Is that the kind of person you are? For shame.

I just watched Okko's Inn, so I'll recommend that.  It's very Ghibli-esque, in a sort of Kiki's Delivery Service meets Hanasaku Iroha way.  Young girl goes to live at her grammie's onsen after Truck-kun makes off with her parents, and meets some helpful and mischievous ghosts to help her adjust.  It won't blow you out of your seat, but you might need a hankie or two.  Also a short (12 min) series out there, which I haven't seen but might look for.

ohmygod martinman!!!!! wtf how are you??????

and ill always be a thing.

Pretty good, Cidz; How are you?  I get on here every once and awhile when I miss the ASMB and need a nostalgia blast, especially now that most/all of the ASMB friends group I had have been gone from AIM and Skype for years.

The past few years have been crazy...I've gotten married, and having a wife and having a smartphone have eliminated most of my computer and anime time, so I'm not too involved for most of the year, but I'm on winter break which means free time!

I have the occasional fond memory of CSW, but I don't necessarily miss it, not after they insulted half the anime I watched new in 2012.

But if you're looking for ways you can get back in touch with some of the faces you don't see anymore, there's always MAL. That's how I got back in touch with FayeWorshipper69, even if it was only to tell him I picked up Freezing just to spite him for saying nobody should watch it nine years ago.

The old ASMB forums had their ups and downs, similarly with my time in CSW. It was a nice place to practice with my writing and a ton of fun, but I was younger and a lot more desperate to make people laugh. I had the hunger but none of the control to harness it properly so there was just far too much material where I looked sloppy or unhinged. I'd be quick to apologize to anyone I might've offended or anyone whose toes I stepped on with some of my old posts.

But life's been moving very quickly. Done with college, moved into a writing gig around 2017 that helps me remain calmer, focused, and self-reflective, and have a ton of personal life successes to make up for any turbo-anxiety I picked up along the way. I usually tend to be too shy to follow what's going on with everyone, but it is nice to keep in touch when the stars align.
