midnight
They are creepy. I went into a mall last month. Savannah has two malls. One is a two-story mall. I went into Target, and walked out into the mall, and there was nothing but vacant stores. There were only a handful of stores left in it, and it was eerie. bnmjy
The mall near me was where Dawn of the Dead was filmed. Ironically, the mall is nowhere near close to being dead. I remember creating a thread about the memorial they had for Romero in the mall.

Yeah, it's strange... like Neshaminy in Philly is going well, and just 40 minutes away is the second largest mall in the US..., but if you are a "small mall" kind of person those are getting his kind of hard. For example, what was (and still is to most) the Franklin Mills mall got bought out and turned into Philadelphia Mills... (everyone still calls it Franklin Mills), and they attached a Walmart to it which will inevitable help in the demise of the place.

I've never been to Philadelphia. Been to Pennsylvania a few times, but never over to Philly. The Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah is in the heart of uptown. The Savannah Mall is out a ways. I never cared much for that mall, but damn. It was DEAD. I was gonna walk around and see if I could find disco something cool, and nothing was to be seen. I suppose that's the last time I'll ever go there. I predict it will be closed by the end of the year, or as soon as Bass Pro builds it's next location. garbagepailcat
The mall in my town just demolished over half of the building. It’s weird cause I spent a large chunk of my teen years mallratting, but kids just don’t do it anymore. No one does. The old people don’t even do their speedwalking. Target wants to build nearby, but they don’t want to attach themselves to the failing mall. Rumor is that they’re going to share a parking lot. If that happens, the whole mall will get torn down, and everything will be turned into a strip, which I think used to be the preferred mall layout anyway. (?) Anyway. Failing malls are fascinating but also hurt my nostalgic heart a lil bit.
Rogue_Alphonse
Yeah... it's kind of surreal knowing how packed they were when I was little and now even at peak times it's just ... not. Which is okay, because I hate dealing with people getting in my goddamn way. but that's why I don't really do any kind of retail stores during peak seasons. Online retailers are offered more tax breaks and are paid to come into other areas. Such as South Carolina and Alabama. Georgia does not offer those incentives. We did pass the Freeport Exemption, that would allow them not to be taxed on items in the warehouse, only the items that are distributed. But, no one has taken us up on the offer. Georgia doesn't offer much, so Amazon and others like it, choose surrounding states that do offer the breaks and cuts.

GunStarHero
Back when I was living in Alabama we had three malls in my city. One was iffy to begin with and then Ludacris made an appearance and someone was just so excited to show him their gun that they fired a few rounds off. I'm unsure if it's still around. Second mall was decent but you can tell it will eventually die as it's big stores close up. Third one is an "outdoor mall" where all the white people go. So that ones still in good shape. Where I am now there are like 10 malls and most are always packed. I go to the one near my house like once or twice a month and it's always busy. Out of those, PBGGameplay, ProJared Plays, and TheRunwayGuys are the best. ProJared just finished Super Mario World Co-op where he was playing with his editor but his editor was controlling the enemies and trying to kill his character for most of the series except for the last two or three videos where they actually worked together. PBGGameplay which mostly consists of PBG and Jeff have been playing Super Mario Sunshine hacked where everything is out to get them It's pretty funny. TheRunawayGuys have been playing Pikmin. Jon's never played it much before so chuggaaconroy has been helping him a little. I'd highly recommend TRG's Wheel of Fortune's videos (the oldest ones are the best) and Super Mario 3D World. Those are the first two playthroughs I watched when I first subscribed to TRG. The three British Poketubers I watch are Patterrz, GameboyLuke, and FeintAttacks. They pretty much only play Pokemon Nuzlockes but I also really like GameboyLuke's Mario Maker and Undertale videos. So far he's the only YouTuber I watched who almost played it completely blind. He never finished Undertale and has been taking a break from Mario Maker but the videos that are there are really good.

Chapinator_X
It's a public space that is often nostalgic in how bustling it was back in the day. Some parts of abandoned or dying malls can even be traced back to the 80's/90's depending on how much the malls developed or how long they've been defunct. A slowly decaying mall can even be slowly felt with time. I love watching abandoned mall videos because it gives you a glimpse of history that feels very recent or modern compared to a relic further back in time like a historical site/plantation/national monument. There's even exoticism in videos that play songs as if they're being broadcast from an abandoned mall's radio.

SnapItCrackItPopIt
I'm obsessed with it! It's more nostalgia for me considering I spent so much time in malls growing up and I think that's true for a lot of viewers. I started out with Dan Bell and now I'm watching Retail Archaeology, Sal, and Ace Adventures. I also came across some old mall commercials and mall documentaries from the 80s and 90s and that was fun to watch. I'm sure my future grand kids will take elective courses in college about the mall, how it shaped the American economy, and how the American economy plus the internet put it in the ICU.

Some of these malls had poor management that would charge ridiculous rent space prices and the anchor stores like Sears for example refused to update and get with the times.
