If you have to work on it don't buy one.

Well "work " like Internet based research on companies and data...  Still strictly Internet.  No real applications for it...  I have my other laptops for that.

If all you are going to do is research, "watch porn", then it's fine. Most of your higher end productivity software won't work on the chromebook.

I am just hesitant about the whole Linux thing.

Newegg or tiger direct has cheap remanufactured laptops if you can catch them.

I was checking newegg...  Refurbished freaks me out. But my brother gets a lot of his computers from there.

i've been rocking the same acer chromebook since 2012 and it still holds up to current web demands. i use it for bar paperwork and some light graphic design stuff (web-based, saas-type stuff). also for sitting around and browsing when a phone screen just doesn't cut it. the battery is half what it used to be, but i still get a solid 5 hours of use on it as long as i'm just doing basic shit. it's also pretty good for remote desktop if you use the built-in google app.

i got the wife a newer version of mine in 2015 and hers is also doing well. they each cost about $250 new. i also have a windows laptop that i use for heavier lifting, but i use it less often and usually only because there are software i need to use that can't run on a chromebook.

btw, you can dual boot a chromebook, just like a windows laptop. if you needed a linux device (which you don't but i'm saying it anyways) there are distros out there built just for use on chromebooks.

i've been using google's drive and office apps for several years, and it's really fucking handy to have everything sync across phone and all chrome sessions (chromebook or otherwise). don't expect to edit video or play graphics-heavy games online via browser, and you won't be disappointed.

They're actually pretty great. I bought one for my dad a couple years ago because he's prone to viruses on windows machines, and all he does is watch netflix and browse the internet and loves it.

I had one for a while, but it was a bit too limited for what I wanted to do. If all you're doing is browsing the internet and editing documents, it's a great cheap alternative to a full fledged laptop.

Hmm.. Asus has some nice cheap shit.

ASUS is the company you want to go through if you're gonna laptop.

The rest of them are literally garbage.

Only Asus actually cares enough.

after the great disaster of 2017 and the blob that was my screen, i finally broke out the 'new' laptop i got in 2016.

(you know i was not letting go of the blob screen) until i had to.

well..that pos crashed and burned in 2months.

so...i got a chromebook.

and for what i use it for...it's great.

no bloatware. i can add what i want.

the scrolling thing, and other 'fancy' moves still allude me...but all in all,

i am VERY happy with it.

Asus is pretty shit dude. They're miles above Acer/eMachines, but they're still shit.

Toshiba and Lenovo are the laptop champs. Dell's Business Class laptops are also cream of the crop - but the consumer class and Alienware are hot garbage.

If you have a desktop or access to a machine that has a port you can upload the photos to google docs then download them to the cb.
