Now would be as good a time as any to go back to airing obscure stuff that deserves a wider audience. Say what you will about their quality, but the "unpredictables", as I like to call them, were never boring when revealed.

The problem with unpredictable shows is they can shine, do okay or shit the sheets. You can't tell what you get until the ink is dry, hence going for things which are known quantities, like MHA and, I suspect, Black Clover.

Posted

Netflix has all the known quantities though,

I doubt that, do they have Made in Abyss, Akashic records and Worldend? If they have all of those, then yeah I guess they have everything.

Black Clover would probably rate well, but I have no desire to see it on the block. I guess it's the most generic shonen to ever get this popular. shithead

Akame Ga Kill has proved before that being generic can equal a huge ratings hit

and if there is still any truth in that then Black Clover is sure to do extremely well on Toonami

Look, I get it. You never know what you're gonna get with those shows. But really, I don't care if what they get does good like Deadman or does shitty like GXP, I just want something that isn't predictable for once!

Yeah, I completely agree with this.  Toonami needs to shake it up a bit and get something other than the standard shonen fare.  Ratings be damned.

I think Toonami could stand to move in both directions. Get the people what they want in newer shows sans Dragon Ball, but carve out an hour or so in the back for those lesser-known anime. And I wouldn't mind seeing some past Broadcast Dubs on the block. Basically, whatever is more likely that people haven't seen, I think'd be good.

Posted

They need to get premieres or else they’re screwed.

Funny story, the ONLY AS show with presence at NYCC is Rick and Morty.

Posted

Nope nope they blew all their money on 3 more Gundam series and S3 of TG.

And the next DB series Dragonball Ultra.. coming in 2025 after Super finishes.

Posted

FLYING LOTUS did the score.

Toonami has this one on lockdown!

You do realize the current crew has horrible taste in anime in today's standard

If this early 08/09 it would be ideal but now? Hell no

Horrible choice

Spend the money on better series not this shit

Hunter × Hunter (2011 series)

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans

One-Punch Man

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096

Samurai Jack (revival series)

Tokyo Ghoul √A

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

Outlaw Star (uncut)

Two shows that can be considered "hits" in the last 2 years.  3 if you want to count Buu saga, but that's kind of floundered lately. That's not very good.

JoJo was a horrible choice after 2

Gundum another stupid move

Lupin ... What were they even thinking?

Tokyo ghoul isn't even doing that well

One thing you have to remember is that the majority of these shows are at least well liked by fans. And I guess they all did okay, but DeMarco could be lying to us.

JoJo's Part 3 is a small step down from the first two in terms of my personal enjoyment, but I think it's actually the highlight of Toonami for right now. HxH hasn't gelled with me for a while (I have to get serious about it before Chimera Ant starts up, at least), and I guess Lupin is okay, but it's not the kind of show I enjoy watching during Toonami. I'd rather see something else in its slot. -_'

I'll give Gundam IBO S2 a chance, even if I wasn't too keen on the first. It at least promises to be a very chaotic show with tons of meaningful drama and character deaths.

Posted

I think IBO S2 will do well, but since it follows the bed-soiling I don't think it will be accurately reflected in ratings.

Everyone dies in IBO S2. Not kidding, every main character dies. Total trainwreck

Kudelia and Atra don't. :|

Ugh, why oh WHY DID I READ THAT!?

Aren't they making a movie? If so, it would seem to imply his demise is inconclusive, kinda like the bloodbath that ended Gundam 00 Season 1.

Wait, they are doing a Jojo marathon?

Does DeMarco want to get cancelled? Seriously, is he on a Rocketman suicide mission or something here?

Yup on the 8th

A waste of time

Posted

You mean the 28th?

I have not seen anything about that, but I think it's the most likely scenario.

Xfinity just had the marathon for the 8th

Posted

They could get one off airing rights to so many awesome OVAs for things like DST.

Just about any Satoshi Kon film or even older Miyazaki films like Naussica would work well.

Gotta be the 28th, which was not unexpected!

While Walking Dead Robot Chicken and JoJo might be thematically similar, no way in hell they'd actually do that.
