  1. Except Kenny will be there.
  2. I guess I have to be a good boy here... I think this is a terrible starting point mostly because it, counterintuitively, still breeds arrogance. For an in internet troll, rules aren't made to be broken as much as bent to serve a purpose. The more rules you add, the more an enterprising troll can use those same rules to provide cover for his activities with relatively little risk of retaliation. The old boards had some of the strictest moderation anywhere when they were first up and we still managed to have a Y7. Having more rules and stricter behavioral parameters looks great on paper, but it does little more than make the mods job more difficult, slows down the process, and leads to lots of borderline abuse still getting through. More rules do not make this place less any less inhospitable if that's your goal.
  3. I'll take your wager. You probably don't hang out in the other boards too often because those places don't have the kind of aggressive, persistent trolling to the degree Rants and FFA do. As much as people like to talk about us chasing out newcomers, the reality is that this is not really any different than when Prospero opened - the new people are still going to explore the specific topics to get a feel before they move into the Colisseum of those two folders. That there aren't a bunch of new people isn't so much a function of them being chased away as much as its just a matter of this place not drawing people in the first place.
  4. It's right there in my post why they did it.
  5. Whelp..... Not sure what I can add to this discussion, but It's worth noting that this latest brouhaha is really about how ill defined the concept of personal is. Trolling, despite it being considered bannable previously, it's essentially about antagonizing other people within the confines of the established rules. It was always unenforceable, but that hasn't stopped some people from finding ways to make things personal. What we're seeing now are some pretty insane attempts to make any kind of offensive comment a personal attack, usually by stringing together a posters entire history as context. Bucket's recent gun photo and the reaction it elicited is a perfect example of how what is perceived as threat can be expanded. If you make the line of unacceptable behavior as attacks on the person instead of what he or she says, then it's clear what needs to be moderated, and most of this goes away. The bigger issue of getting more people can't be solved through moderation. You will never be able to moderate people into being articulate, witty, intelligent, and open minded. You won't moderate out well reasoned opinions. Most importantly, you can't moderate sensitivity to difficult issues. I don't want to say the old ASMB was better because it really wasn't, but at least there were enough big egos to keep each other in check. Ultimately, that's the missing factor here.
  6. By the way.... Why did fuggs add a family name to a Hurricane?
  7. Sure, when you have terrible taste in electronics.
  8. Didn't the storm avoid a direct hit of South Florida?
  9. Do you use your phone for anything besides hooking up with losers?
  10. Exactly. I'm still going to get one, though.
  11. This thread sucks. Is no one going to post hurricane pictures?
  12. Bram Stoker thinks this is ingenious.
  13. Don't live in hurricane country if you don't like hurricanes.
  14. In fact, he didn't really bring up racism until after you mentioned it.
  15. She doesn't know any Bloods or Cripps.
  16. Maybe your mom? It's about time she had a real man anyway.
  17. Whelp. There you have it.
  18. Just a heads up. I passed this on to the roving bands of black youth. They promised to stop by and hang out. .... Sleep tight.
  19. No, it killed itself a few posts back.
  20. I remember seeing the thread, but I don't recall exactly what year or the user. It was an IB thread about that time.
  21. Actually, not really. The human tongue / vocal chords might be more developed than lower order mammals, but there are still limitations to the number of sounds that it can produce. Further, the vocal sounds used by the English language tend to be different than those used by their nordic predecessors so, as Old English and German root words evolve into the newer, latinate-based vocalizations, many subtle differentiations between word pronunciations are obliterated.
  22. It's a homonym homophone. The word origins are different.
  23. No, you aren't. Happy Birthday!
  24. That being said, Oklahoma did look good but they're going to have to show it wasn't a fluke game.
  25. You had one job, man.....
