  1. rules that I definitely didn't break, right? RIGHT???? I went to a yankees game once around that same time period. and I fell asleep a couple innings in and woke up when it was time to go.
  2. one time (of the three times) I hit the ball, i was running from first to second and the other kid had picked up the ball and just stood there and looked at me smugly. so with my expert knowledge of the rules at the time (which was just something like "the running part is tag but it's the ball that's "it"), I brilliantly just stepped around him, stepped back, and kept running as he continued to just stand there and not touch me with the ball. when I made it back to home plate, the coach said something like "good job, but don't do that" and I was legitimately pissed because i strongly felt i definitely did the right and correct thing in the absence of any additional information.
  3. when i did junior pee wee, i caught the ball once except instead of my glove, i caught it with my eye socket
  4. The aberration was a one-off gimmick thread. https://unevenedge.com/topic/31410-remember-that-one-thread-in-ib-that-got-to-10000-posts
  5. This folder isn't IB, there's a club and a discord that are both IB. This is General Discussion and no folder camp has dibs, so you best start discussing your generals.
  6. Right. So traffic and activity have declined significantly over the past few years. Routine visitors have declined by between one half and one third, however actual content has fallen off significantly more than that. Below is a basic chart for context: Set aside "new blood" for the sake of discussion, because I included it just to make the point that it's not even a target at this point. The "active user" category is self evident - people who both log in and engage in content. The "other ASMB" category are people who never made the jump, or popped in once or twice but never engaged. The "lapsed user" category is made up of people who were formerly active, and have either left the site completely or lurk for one reason or another, and their absence represents about four times the amount of content that is posted in the current normal. This is obviously unrefined (it doesn't distinguish between the types of content being posted for example), but it paints the picture. So we conducted a survey to seek out opinions from active users, lapsed users from all corners, and maybe even some of the other ASMB folks who never joined. What do people like about the site or wish the site did better, what don't they like or why did they leave? The goal was to try to construct a path that might give everyone a little of what they want and see if we can increase numbers from the orange and yellow categories without alienating the red category. It may be that we can't, due to one too many mistakes in the past or just that it's the natural life cycle of a near-20 year old internet community. But it's the people that say things like "I don't come around often, but I really value that we still have a home" or "the ASMB was really important to me in a vulnerable time and I appreciate that you're still out there" that make it worth the effort to try. The 20th anniversary date isn't a guaranteed kill-switch date if nothing changes, but at a minimum I think we've agreed that it would be a pivot point in one way or another.
  7. My father told us a story once about the first time he ever ordered delivery by himself. To paraphrase: He was about 10-12 and home alone (he was the youngest in a huge family), and called the pizza place or wherever to ask how much xyz was as he's counting his change and thinks "yes! I have that exact amount, perfect!" Fast forward and the delivery guy drops off his order, he proudly and confidently hands over exactly change. The guy counts it and, "Is that it?" "Yup!" Moment of silence until the guy realizes he has no idea what tipping is, just had to laugh it off and go on his way.
  8. hazalappy birthday minmaxwell
  9. The second site tab next to "Browse" is "Activity" and there's all sorts of customizable feeds that I guarantee none of us have ever looked at.
  10. As a general FYI because there have been some questions, the default landing page for the club is the "overview" which is just a chronological feed of all activity in the club. The tabs at the top of each club include the overview, the member list, and at least one traditional board. Click on that board tab, whatever it may be named, and use it/create threads like normal. If I can find a way to disable the default overview tab I will (it doesn't really make sense unless there's multiple boards or other features enabled within the club).
  11. Can you simplify what you're asking for, in like 20 words or less? I genuinely don't know whether you're trying to be serious.
  12. The Folder text is bolded when there's a new post.
  13. The groups you join should appear at the bottom of the Forum page, under the archives, and should appear just like regular boards do in that regard. Does it work for you?
  14. I curated some of the most recent content here into club topics. I picked thread names that made me laugh, moreso than for actual descriptions because i am a child. Going to retire this thread, for anyone who missed the memo the link to first-time access is here:
  15. When I'm sad and lonely late at night sometime this week I might go through this thread and splice out some recurring topics and port them over as individual threads in the club. Unjumble it, like a set of Christmas tree lights.
  16. I transferred ownership so you can tailor it however, add a real image for a logo instead of the uemb emblem. I also made TG a club mod because why not. Then, funny thing happened, I somehow banned myself from the club space, even though I have access as admin.
  17. I think politics stuff worked out in terms of visibility, so they're probably fine. And I think it'll work out better to mix politics with other current events (news, RIP threads, etc) rather than shoehorn it into an intentionally angry folder. Classic rants content can fall into GD or whatever topic someone wants to rant about, maybe we can create a universal "rant" tag an OP can apply to threads.
  18. The new Noise will have a Current Events folder (news/politics etc.) and the catch-all General Discussion folder. Sports would fall under GD, unless people think that's current events? pooh - yeah we can totally float whatever sports are in active season
  19. Sports is being folded into the general discussion board. Because that folder largely operates via megathreads, it actually has the least (or near the least) amount of individual threads of any board on the site. So in terms of consolidation it just makes sense to just move those megathreads to a more consolidated/trafficked space. In theory it will help anchor the "tone" of the new GD section and it also eliminates any ambiguity about where to post one-off sports content.
  20. Hi all, per the site-wide announcement thread, we're going to make some changes to the forum fairly soon - largely folder consolidations and mergers to reduce the scale of the site. But one new feature we are going to introduce are private, self-run general discussion groups (called "clubs" even though it's a totally lame name) for each of the main board communities. I set up a Toonami Off-Topic club here which is basically the evolution of this thread once it gets going and everyone joins. As a general matter, I haven't customized it or anything at this time - I'd much rather someone with authentic anime/Toonami credentials swings the bat. Is there anyone who everyone might agree I can designate as the club leader/admin?
  21. May 27, 2023 will mark the 20th anniversary of the ASMB/UEMB community. Twenty years is a long time, from Prospero to Lithium, the Fan Collective years, back to regular Lithium, later to that awful NodeBB feed, and then the transition to UEMB on freeforums, the shift to SMF, and the final upgrade to the IPB version we are currently on. There've been plenty of friendships, social circles, marriages, and even a few board babies, on top of two decades' worth of Very Important history and lore. However, as times go on, people's lives, interests, and priorities change and it has taken a toll on site traffic. As such, we are treating the 20th anniversary as a pivot point - based on the reality of the moment. It may be the best time to hold one big, final board reunion before calling it a good two decades. Or we may keep on keeping on, it really all depends on the trajectory of the next several months. To that end, we recently circulated a survey to gather input from current members, lapsed members, and never-joiners on their likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams, and other data. We thank the 100+ people who took a moment to fill it out. Based on the feedback we received, we are planning the first significant restructure of the site layout in five years. The general thrust of the redesign is that, in addition to significantly consolidating the number of topical discussion boards, we want to provide the various sub-communities with the disparate experiences they seek. To do so, we are going to experiment with a "public square"/"private community" format using the Forum and the Clubs feature. Public Square (Forums) The public square will consist of the topical boards, one vanilla "general discussion" board, and one vanilla "current events" board (the three existing "flavored" Noise folders will all be archived). This is an intentional decision: to consolidate public discussions, to reduce the social "ownership" of various folders based on the legacy ASMB communities, and to consolidate the redundant "general discussion" spaces this generated. The consolidated forums are intended to be a neutral space with middle-of-the-road tempo and moderation where people from the disparate corners of the broader community can feel free to engage based on subject matter. The topics of retired folders will default to the General Discussion folder, giving it more variety and discussion anchors, and some active or "classic flavored" threads from newly archived folders may be ported to the applicable board (or club, which I discuss next). Tentatively, the board structure will look something like this: Welcome to UEMB UEMB.Com Site Support & Community Discussion UEMB Creative Share Space Media Bastards Anime & Manga Arts, Lit & Music Games Movies & TV Toonami & [adult swim] (both regular toonami episode discussions and general [as] news) General Noise Current Events General Discussion Private Communities (Clubs) The second component is that we will enable each legacy community to self-run their own social space where they can engage in casual conversation amongst themselves, on their own terms. These spaces (currently named "clubs" by the software) are structured like customizable mini-forums, and are fully integrated into the sidebars and feeds and related aspects of the forum. They will be inaccessible/unreadable absent membership in the club, and will be largely self-moderated by responsible individuals within that sub-community (there are certain conditions, such as minimum rules; note that site mods and admins will have access and may step in if needed). We will work with each community to the extent that it needs assistance customizing their space or getting it off the ground. We will also work with other groups that reach out if there is a need for additional private social spaces. The Clubs tab is listed immediately prior to the Forums tab under the Browse drop-down, and there you will find the following, hopefully self-evident communities, which you can already join as of this notice and begin posting threads in (once joined/approved by the designated leader): Toonami Off-Topic 2.0 IBers Anonymous Beyond the Thunderdome (additional clubs, independent of this restructure, are listed under a second heading) At the moment, we are still gaming out aspects of the restructure that we haven't necessarily anticipated. There may be secondary changes, including to volunteer ranks or whatever pops up as needed to fulfill the changes, but those sort of issues will be figured out as they arise during the transition. However, the physical changes to the forum will be implemented later this week - time/date TBD schedule permitting (will obviously shoot for a low-activity moment). At such point, the site will probably go down for a few hours to implement some of the more major changes, and will return once complete.
  22. Happy birthday yackie!
