idk if their charging tech was the best, but they had the largest charger footprint so the other car companies decided it was easier to fall back on that rather than build their own charger networks, like imagine if every gas station brand had a different-shaped nozzle. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/08/gm-says-tesla-charging-deal-will-save-the-automaker-up-to-400-million.html

Basically iirc, every company had it's own plug/tech which made rolling out public-access charging stations impossible. So they all got together a few years back and hashed out a compromise to make Tesla's charging port/tech the EV standard. Which would make the only silver lining that he'd be shutting down 8,000 Elon musk ports.

My understanding is that all the EV companies actually agreed to standardize chargers using Tesla tech.

pretty sure when he was elected it was intended as a "caretaker" to keep the seat warm for a couple years before the next long-term pope, because he was already so old and had the health issues -

Musk proposed "DOGE checks" to rebate 20% of the "savings" and Trump glommed onto it. Mike Johnson shot the idea down, not that he's known for having a spine.

^ Trump's guy gave Zelensky a contract (with an hour to sign off) that would entitle the US to like $500b worth of rare mineral resources as repayment for our support, and Zelensky said no. And then Zelensky kind of shot down the bilateral negotiations on Saudi Arabia between the US and Russia. So now Trump big mad and effectively blaming Ukraine for everything. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg1508r8jro

I just read the order. It isn't attempting to take over the judiciary, it's just unitary executive shit where everything that isn't the courts or congress must flow through his office. So instead of attacking the courts, it's attacking institutions that were intentionally set up to be at arm's reach from politics (the exception cited in the EO is Fed monetary policy).

the tl;dr is tomorrow the judge decides whether to let the DOJ throw the case out, and after that there will be a decision -

I stumbled into an account that was just pure antisemitism and apparently twitter stops accepting abuse reports after 15 because it stopped working -

[insert title here] 2025-26 Election Cycle Thread
Raptorpat replied to tsar4's topic in Current Events
it's enough of a GOP heatsink that they considered changing the law to postpone a special as long as possible I think it's possible in a super low-turnout special election, given the post-Trump era Dem overperformance in specials combined multiplied by anti-incumbent sentiments but it's also possible that the Dem brand is so toxic to Fox people that nothing matters anymore
