another thought about the [original] lion king is that I think it was the basis of my concept of aging. like simba and nala grow up, but everyone else stays the same. so like in my mind, kids grew up and adults kind of just stayed the same. kids would grow up and eventually like 'join' the adults, and at some point adults would just like transition into old people I guess? it sounds really silly to actually say that out loud, but that's basically how the movie is animated - none of the adults age while the kids grow up. but even though I know that's not true, it was enough of a foundational concept in my brain that it factors in when I get all "holy shit i'm watching everyone age in real time and people like my parents who weren't old are old now and people who used to be old are dead and I'm still aging even though I leveled up to 'adult' years ago and we're all just on the same conveyor belt to death".

Guess whose billing got fucked up and denied again, after telling everyone who would listen not to let the billing people mess up again? This time they put down the name of a provider I've never even met before and probably isn't even be a person in that office.

I'm very sorry to hear about everything and you have my condolences, but also welcome back. We're still in the business of general nostalgia, even if the anniversary is over. I know we have a boardiversary thread in .com and we may also still have a shout out or general nostalgia thread (can't remember but at work and trying to be quick) for that type of stuff. Someone from the old boards told me a long time ago that the reason we'd all stuck around that long (at the time) was because "we were all broken." They didn't mean that in a negative way, but rather we all had a hole in our lives, whether socially, family emotionally, or otherwise, and this community in one way or another somehow managed to fill that void in our lives. I tend to think that it's probably true, and I think that it's all the more reason to want to keep this place around. Traffic ebs and flows from month to month, but people keep coming back whether routinely or just from time to time because they have that connection. There's definitely value here even if we're a bunch of grumpy old farts, and I guess that's all I'm trying to say.

One of the worst things about Twitter now

no, the worst part is having to read that dissertation two sentences at a time -
