  1. I still can’t get over how bad the advertising campaign is for this show. All that talent and they focus on the Poser-level animation.
  2. Keep in mind a lot of this wasn’t possible until the restructuring let them have access to Business Daddy’s purse strings, presumably because it will be a joint Adult Swim/Crunchyroll production. And if it doesn’t work, DeMarco probably won’t get to dictate the originals (which I’m sure many on UnevenEdge would approve of). Just tell me which executive wants to green light Bean Bandit.
  3. The demographics for this are going to be fascinating. Because I know for Tumblr this was must see television, but what about the kids leaving SU playsets gathering dust?
  4. People can get mainstream shounen stuff anywhere, uncensored and at a much faster rate than Toonami. This is about what they want, yes, but it’s also about standing out. And the only way to stand out when the other guys get it to your eyeballs faster and with no censorship, is to show stuff they won’t, for whatever reason.
  5. It’s the symbol of everything wrong with Western animation and I would prefer it ended gracefully.
  6. That’s unfortunate given no one outside of Tumblr likes these shows and they don’t sell merch.
  7. Can they make us the promise that this is the last Steven Universe related thing that will ever come out? Ever? That the Tumblr cartoon era is over with the majority of the shows bombing in merch, never getting made, and failing to attract Da Kids? Can we all move on?
  8. Genndy is no stranger to the format, but I guess this means we shouldn’t expect much in the vein of long form storytelling.
  9. From a normal perspective, I think the black and white is kinda dumb, but in the age of MASS STREAMING, stuff like this Primal’s 5 night event miniseries airing, are necessary to put focus on the block, not the shows. DeMarco has made it a point to describe Toonami as a boutique programming block. Black Clover and Super aren’t going to fit that mold. Stuff like this, like Blade Runner will. It is admittedly a very difficult balance to strike, higher brow programming that people will come back to linear television to see, but unlike say, Cannon Busters, doesn’t come off as derivative or gimmicky.
  10. Watch the Steven Universe movie...
  11. The only point to be made is where Crunchyroll/Ellation is putting their dollars (Crunchyroll is a producer for Shield Hero).
  12. This comes on the heels of High Guardian Spice’s 1 year of silence following an initial trailer about diversity and a female writing room, despite creator Dino Raye saying it’s happening.

  14. gen:Lock hasn’t even confirmed a Season 2.
  15. I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT!
  16. This feels like the same whataboutism they did with James Gunn, relying on manufactured outrage and cultural barriers to have Toei punish FUNi.
  17. https://twitter.com/thelawyerbot/status/1167323152180867073?s=21 And before you ask, yes, Vic fans are using it to put pressure on Toei to punish them.
  18. Genndy was rather adamant about NOT being connected to Toonami. So no.
  19. Finished Cannon Busters. Honestly just watch Gun X Sword instead.
  20. I’ll say this much, five nights, five episodes on old fashioned television seems like the sort of thing DeMarco would love.
  21. Gundam: The Origin and gen:Lock should have switched slots, especially given that they’re treating the latter as just another show, while the political intrigue of the former is attracting a crowd (that probably watched it on streaming).
  22. Preview is up on Twitter. 5 nights, 5 episodes, and therefore 5 times as successful as Korgoth!
