  1. With Netflix trying to pass yet another non-anime off as “anime” (Seis Manos, which eschews being Japanese for having a pretty high profile cast including Danny Trejo and Mike Colter, AKA TV’s Luke Cage) DeMarco has a pretty good ad campaign set up for him. ”You want anime? No, REAL anime. Well Toonami has been bringing you the best REAL anime (and action cartoons) since 1997. And while we strive to bring you the best action cartoons from across the planet, we’ll never pass off something inauthentic as anime. Because our fans demand better. And till the sun rises on a world without Toonami, we’re still the original and the best. Toonami - Building you a better cartoon show.” The problem with that is DeMarco has (for admittedly good reason) actively avoided any type of ad that could be construed as saying anime > other cartoons, and even knocking Netflix for passing non-anime off as anime might lean too far into that weeb superiority complex for his taste.
  2. That’s the Tuesday showing, September 17th. Subs are Thursday September 19th.
  3. https://www.fathomevents.com/events/promare/theaters Theatre listings are up and tickets on sale. One day dubbed, one day subtitled.
  4. At this point DeMarco is throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks in a post Dragon Ball world. Hey, OPM was one of the few shows that kept up with DB Super.
  5. Record of Grancrest War 1-2.
  6. “We have Dragonball! PLEASE KEEP WATCHING!”
  7. The Origin manga is a remake of the original Mobile Suit Gundam. This is an adaptation of a prequel story that was published concurrently (along with two side stories). https://www.amazon.com/Mobile-Suit-Gundam-Origin-Activation/dp/193565487X
  8. Ok, maybe gen:Lock has a future season 2 despite Toonami’s craptastic promotion. And Gundam really deserves a better time slot. And a proper adaptation of The Origin. Not bad for a two year old OVA available just about everywhere.
  9. Yes I did. He called it a con and I bought up that none of the usual reasons for calling it that applied here.
  10. Con usually means “money went towards something it wasn’t supposed to” (Crunchyroll’s eternal black eye High Guardian Spice) or “promising something not delivered”. Neither happened here.
  11. Joker took top honors at the Venice Film Festival, which is essentially the Oscar season pre-show. So expect major Oscar buzz. I do like how Joker is basically the new Hamlet for film actors.
  12. I’ve said it before but it’s perfectly plausible FUNi edited it to promote their own streaming services and left Toonami holding the bag, or they edited it harshly in advance because no one wants to do more work because Standards and Practices rejected the first cut.
  13. Project V got rushed ASAP for a reason. If it was just a ship to ship battle, Zeon would have never stood a chance.
  14. NYCC is next month. Maybe we’ll hear something then.
  15. Your reminder that Gundam is getting a live action movie while gen:Lock will probably not get a season 2.
  16. Crunchyroll bankrolled Shield Hero as part of the production committee. If they wanted to air it, they could. Of course, that’s a big if.
  17. It exists, it isn’t giving the money to talentless clods for CalArts stuff, and it has a set release date. How is it a con?
  18. Well we have a name and a making of feature...in Japanese. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-09-06/sol-levante-4k-netflix-anime-making-of-video-streamed/.150811 Behold, Sol Levante. The first 4K hand draw anime.
  19. Well the accusations have been going back for what, decades? Not like it matters knowing how this stopped being about Vic months ago and is about the fear of the culture being usurped instead of a creepy D list celebrity.
  20. Can’t. See, it involves a woman accusing a man and therefore everyone will argue about this until the end of time, well after any legal ruling, under penalty of being called a snowflake.
  21. Gun X Sword 3-5.
  22. Warner Bros last I checked is the one producing the Gundam movie. Given the newfound emphasis on corporate synergy and pooling of resources, it would be perfect for them to commission an adaptation of the Origin proper. This series, while good and full of intrigue, ends right before the fun REALLY begins. It’s in essence a very well done prequel to a show that doesn’t but should exist.
  23. Kakegururi XX 10-12
  24. You know, when Teen Titans Go got a movie, it was a real movie. You could go to the theatre, spend money on a ticket, buy snacks, and see it with your kids. Hell, that’s why Will Arnett played Slade, his kids loved the show and wanted him in it. This was tossed on Cartoon Network on Labor Day and you know who didn’t care? Kids! The primary demo!
  25. The thing is it isn’t a bad show, it’s just one I happened to see when it debuted online in January. But they keep playing to its weaknesses and not its strengths.
