  1. I would say that they’re trying to force the issue for views since it’s a lower tier studio, but considering how certain sites reacted (ANN had a whole spiel about how the show was gross, warned anyone who thought it would be funny in a trainwreck kind of way, etc), it’s doing the work for them. I don’t know what else to say, that even this product, if it is wholly without merit, will keep getting attention because of folks who are angry at it.
  2. They didn’t. Netflix did, then promptly buried it. But I really wanted them to.
  3. That would have been Sword Art Online if CW had gotten it. Instead, a Netflix got it, pledged to cast Asian actors, and all the studios said no, banishing it to Development Hell. Carl and Alice would have been funny to watch.
  4. New trailer, and confirmation we’re getting an uncensored version. Probably have to post that one on Pornhub like Interspecies Reviewers.
  5. There’s a very funny story about that actually. There were two sets of episodes commissioned for the show, the first season was the usual “let’s update everything to be more progressive and modern”, but the second season was written by Lance Falk, the guy who made SWAT Katz, who was a hardcore Johnny Quest fan. He did his absolute damndest to undo all the changes, killing off villains, bringing back Dr. Zin, etc. So yeah, there were hardcore fans show running. Not like today where they say they are then turn it into a glorified therapy session or rant about boomers. But by this point, the network was shifting gears. Big time.
  6. Quest was one of the last action shows Hanna Barbara made for a very long time at that point. It was a big deal at the time and moving on from it to the anime that would define the block and fundamentally change the animation market as a whole was a big deal. DeMarco repeatedly says Toonami was never meant to be an anime block, but replacing Quest with anime made it one by default.
  7. This was also when, for better or for worse, the block became synonymous with anime.
  8. I saw the first episode, and it was pretty good. I’m definitely going to watch the rest.
  9. They released the Japanese Bleach movie, and just came out with Alice in Borderland, which seems pretty good one episode in. It’s that their pipeline has numerous adaptations, namely Bebop, One Piece, and the rights to a LA Sword Art Online as well. But yes, they never get made, thankfully.
  10. Who is it? Who’s the weeb at Netflix?
  11. So what it’s being done to promote blockbuster films and an app that is probably Warner’s only way to profit until then? It makes money. Which DC is usually pretty good at. Try having Asta or Kirito sell Diet Coke like Alfred and Batman do.
  12. It’s a big question the interest Sony has in production committee work. I’m pretty sure that they don’t want to make anything like Dumbass Aztec Avatar Clone again, but more Shield Hero and the like? Maximizing the production of a Shounen Jump animation to film pipeline (presumably Sony films gets first dibs on distributing the Naruto and MHA movies if they ever come out)? Definite interesting questions.
  13. https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2020/12/13/chainsaw-man-rips-its-way-into-anime-adaptation-part-2-of-manga-announced?utm_source=community_cr&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=news&referrer=community_cr_twitter_news The manga is also getting a “Part 2” to keep the gravy train rolling, especially now that Demon Slayer has wrapped up.
  14. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-12-12/anime-viewership-on-netflix-in-u.s-is-up-over-100-percent-in-2020/.167341 Unsurprisingly is the Pokemanz leading the charge with the 3D Mewtwo movie. Blood of Zeus, Baki, and Seven Deadly Sins are also big hits.
  15. Don’t suppose we can get Batman Soul of the Dragon soon enough?
  16. We should be so lucky to get New Frontier instead of Death Beats.
  17. Those are both good ones. New Frontier in particular is great.
  18. I still expect to see Bebop back on regular rotation when the LA series debuts and presumably sucks. DeMarco has an easy layup, going “this is how Bebop should look, not like a lame low budget drama with Current Year politics,”
  19. That also means CR’s original line is mostly dead in the water. FUNi doesn’t need Webtoons in bulk or lame Avatar clones.
  20. IIRC it didn’t air in the US. It was a Singaporean dub.
  21. Sony is now the name in the West for anime with Netflix in second.
  22. It was a Stan Lee take on Tetsujin 28. Shame about the legal stuff.
  23. If you rewatch them all now, it really feels like the studio wanted to make a 52 episode X-Men series, since X-Men has way higher production values and a more coherent story. Wolverine IIRC is pretty much the Frank Miller Wolverine miniseries, which The Wolverine movie covered later anyway.
