The Rerez channel is vindicated for their two videos pointing out Stadia was an infeasible concept. I like owning things. The definition has loosened from having a disc to the download being on a hard drive, but I don’t want to be at the mercy of the cloud.

Yeah, I see Japan keeping the same VA’s while the dub casts Sebastian Stan as Kiryu or something the same way they got Esposito for Cyberpunk. It’s still an utter shame, but I think this would have occurred with or without Zaslav thanks to the CR sale.

So we can add Gundam to things Toonami no longer has access to, thanks to Sony and to a lesser extent Netflix. Wonderful. Bonus, Sony now has the licenses to the entirety of Robotech AND Macross through their buyouts and deals so Macross’ newfound US freedom means Jack shit to Toonami. If the Robotech movie ever gets made (big If, that thing is the Hope Diamond of Hollywood) Sony could theoretically just make Macross sequels. And don’t tell me the people who thought Morbius was a good idea wouldn’t make a Macross 7 movie.

I think we all resigned ourself to this inevitability once the Crunchyroll sale to Sony was made official and Sony decided they wanted all the anime for themselves and didn't want to bother with that late-nite block. Not to mention Warner is a mess right now, with animation being cut because that's where Zaslav thinks the cuts will be easiest (and clearly needing the money since they're facing a class action lawsuit for cooking the books prior to the buyout). And it sucks because of all the Crunchyroll Originals, Shenmue was the best one, and probably the only one to be a success outside of Tower of God. But given Shenmue's own history, it's kind of fitting legal bullshit keeps the story from continuing. It SUCKS, but no one can say this came out of nowhere. That being said, if Sega announces in November a Yakuza anime with a celebrity VA as Kiryu, we'll probably be able to hear the screams from Atlanta.

Elvis - 8/10. Runs too long and some beats are predictable, but Austin Butler needs to win Best Actor. His performance as the King is transcendent. The “If I can dream” scene is worth it alone.

It's essentially the tax equivalent of an "at least you tried" award. Since a production requires hours, investment, and the employment of individuals, declaring it a failure allows the company to recoup some of the investment on the logic that the production did keep people employed and put money into the economy. Therefore, the company and its investors will not be so hesitant to do it again fearing a flop because there is some incentive to at least try.

On the one hand, it is definitely an example of the “I’m making this as a form of self therapy” genre that seems to have defined Western animation the last 6-8 years or so. On the other hand, Zaslav’s merciless almost suggests a personal beef with Western animation. Obviously that isn’t the case but still.

I think the LA movies were enough, since they’re genuinely good samurai films and probably the best LA adaptations of a manga around (I’m hesitant to count Edge of Tomorrow because they changed so much, even if it is a great film).

The cold hit and I broke out the jacket. One day you're by a pool, the next, you're sipping pumpkin spice coffee.
